Just a little visit

Pictures are from yesterday, a perfectly beautiful, warm sunny day...
It was like springtime!

and in February!

Today has been much cooler, with wind and rain.

On our walk today, in the rain, I picked a handful of daffodils that were flopped over, either from the rain or from being trampled by four big white feet.

Don't know why big Eli has always been attracted to yellow daffodils...

even as a puppy, could not resist the pretty yellow flowers.

Do you remember back in December of 2016 the big mess I had around Christmas time,  trying to make a batch of peanut brittle?? Oh, I did a big post about it! and how I swore never to try again!! and how the recipe I used was called, "no fail" peanut brittle!!

Well, we tried again. This time from a simple little recipe in one of those old church cookbooks. Seem like it was called "Uncle Bob's Peanut Brittle"...

Would you just look at this!! (don't look at the old stained up, beat up bread pan). The peanut brittle turned out perfect!!

Poppy says it's because he had a hand in making it this time. It's really good too! Really good!!

Need to do a little sewing and doll making tonight. I'll leave you with the sweetest Dumperoo...

Dumper had just finished half a can of his special kitty cat food, and stretched out on the bed in the sewing room. He and Bickett both enjoy listening to Bluegrass music while I sew. Seriously!

Hope to be back soon.

Love,
Henny

  2. That lovely bunch of Daffodils looks so nice on your table. And the peanut brittle makes my mouth water!! I don't own a candy thermometer so I'd be afraid I'd mess up. If there's a secret to getting it right maybe you can share it.

    1. Thank you Granny Marigold! I made this batch of peanut brittle without a thermometer. Just got lucky this time. :)

  4. That peanut brittle looks delicious! Congratulations! I tried making it once and it was only so-so, not the best. All your flowers look so pretty. Eli obviously has an appreciation for pretty flowers and he may like the scent as well. Or maybe he was a florist in a previous life! Ha! Dumper is such a good looking cat. Like most cats he knows where to get comfortable! Is that sweet little Weetie in the first picture?

  6. Cats that enjoy music? Is that usual? I've never had a cat as a child or adult. Your peanut brittle looks yummy and I'm glad it turned out well for you this time. Maybe you'll share the recipe soon? I've got my fingers crossed!

    1. I don't know if all cats enjoy music, but Bickett especially does. He is in the sewing room every night and meows when I turn the music off at bedtime. It's funny. Don't know why I didn't post that simple recipe. I will put it on my next post. Thank you Sharon!

  7. Awesome spring flowers. Now peanut brittle is one of my favorites.

  8. Cats appreciate a nice warm place to take a snooze. I think they liked your presence in the same room more than the music, but that didn't hurt either!

  9. Mmmm...that pb does look delicious. For some reason it reminds me of being a kid.Oh, look at Eli as a puppy. What a little puff-ball. :)Dumperoo does look comfy and I don't blame him for liking bluegrass. I think cats do love music excluding heavy rock. They are big fans of JT here.

  11. So glad you had success with your peanut brittle. It looks delicious!

Daffodils are such a happy spring flower. I can't grow them down here, so I will enjoy yours.

We have rain predicted, had a little the past couple of days, and down into the 50's during the night again this weekend. That will probably be the last of our winter type weather.

Have a beautiful day today whatever you do dear Henny. Love the photo of Dumperoo and the fact that music is enjoyed too. What a hoot!

    1. Thank you Lorraine! Now after all this warm weather, it dropped down to 39 degrees last night. I'm so afraid March will bring freezing temperatures and kill everything. That's pretty common around here. You have a good day too!

  15. I hope that it won’t be too long before yellow daffodils are poking up in my garden. A friend of mine told me last night that snowdrops are popping through at her place.

  17. Peanut Brittle was my Mom's favorite candy. Love daffodils too so I understand Eli's attraction.

  18. Aw, Eli loves daffs, and the kitties love music. They all have good taste, too! Hopefully spring is there to stay. I like periwinkle, I'm not sure what the red blooming bush is, but they both look so cheerful.

    1. Hey Pilar. That red bush is Flowering Quince, one of my favorites that blooms in early spring. Thank you for your comment. :)

  19. I think Eli enjoys the yellow heads bobbing in the breeze :)
I use to make microwave peanut brittle every Christmas, a whole two gallon jar full, and most times would be gone before the next day. No longer, since my husband's teeth won't allow it.
Look at that sweet kitty, all happy and content.
Beautiful flowers in your garden Henny.
    Hugs,

  20. That peanut brittle looks SO delicious; it brings back memories. My mom used to make it as did I in my younger years when metabolism wasn't a problem. I made it in the microwave after finding a recipe. It's so much easier than doing it on the stove. My dad had a real sweet tooth so we had lots of sweets around. Mom had a jar that, from the top, looked like yours with the peanut brittle in it. She kept if on top of the refrigerator and it was never empty. As she got older it usually had Lorna Doones in it, which went really well with a cup of coffee. I'm jealous of your beautiful spring flowers. I'm so ready for some color outdoors. We've had so much rain this month that just some bright sunshine makes me think of spring. I did see some daffodils yesterday that were about 4 inches tall. It's a start! I was surprised to see them.

    1. Thank you Peg. I found a recipe for microwave peanut brittle and thought about trying it. I'm going to post the recipe I used, it was so easy and the candy turned out right. A miracle for me! :) I love the flowers too but wish is hadn't turned so warm so soon...just like last year. Now we are supposed to have more freezing weather and that will ruin all these pretty blooms, including the peach tree that's blooming. Makes me sad. Mama used to buy Lorna Doone cookies and my sister loves them. I haven't tasted one in years.

  21. I can't recall my old dog liking flowers or not. She was more interested in anything she could eat.

  22. Oh how sweet that Eli love daffodils. Mom used to make peanut brittle but I have never tried it. I have a dear friend that makes it and gives me some at Christmas and it is yummy! Love you bunches!

  23. Spring does like to tease a little, nice to have a taste of what is to come though. Your peanut brittle has made me want to eat some, now! By the way, I LOVE old baking tins with a bit of character, much nicer than perfect and unused.

  24. We had a nice sunny day though it was a little cool, but it sure was nice to see the sun.
How cute that Eli likes the daffodils.
The peanut brittle looks perfect. Makes me wish I liked it! : )

  27. Gorgeous spring flowers! We have the camellias finishing up and all sorts of other things blooming, even the first azalea. It's been a crazy month. I planted my peas Monday with optimism and enthusiasm. We will see if i was too hasty.

  30. Your peanut brittle looks perfect! And hard candy is not easy, so kudos to you (two). Your quince bush is gorgeous, and the daffies are lovely. Ours have peaked and are pretty, but just about to wane. Spring is so refreshing this year.
