Hopefully, no more dizziness for me for a good long while. I am feeling much better. Thank you for all the nice comments. I appreciate your friendship so much!
Sitting at the dresser putting on a little make up this morning, I thought, why not post about, well, about my dresser.
There is almost a story behind everything here. The black vase was a gift from a favorite boss of mine back in the 1980's when I was a secretary. Yep, we were secretaries back then. I actually enjoyed bringing my boss his morning coffee.
The black glass candleholder came from the home my husband and I bought back in the 1970's.
Have you seen the lovely brooches my daughter Lynn makes.
Lynn sells these when we do a craft show together and she also sells them in her Etsy shop..."a bit of birdsong". I love the old fashioned Victorian look of these pins. I enjoy wearing these pins. One here has a thimble charm. Oh, and those on the right with Mama's picture are very special to me.
Remember when a pretty ashtray made a nice gift?
This lovely glass ashtray was a gift to me back in the 1970's. It even has my initial etched in the glass. Yep, I was a smoker back then. I have put out many a cigarette in this pretty little ashtray.
This drawing sits on a table near the dresser. I found it a thrift store several years ago for nearly nothing. I think it is absolutely beautiful. Who would throw this out!! It is signed KFB.
So that's a look at the dresser.
And funny! Here's the first picture taken when I came up with this great idea...not even thinking it would be a picture of me and Eli.
Better get going. I need a few groceries and the weatherman is calling for storms today. Timing is everything...walking around in the grocery store with other shoppers, you hardly even notice the thunder. :)
Thank you for visiting. I will be around to catch up shortly.

Henny
Remember the citron melon that had grown half inside and half outside the garden fence? With a long sharp kitchen knife I sliced it off the fence...
When I walked inside with more melons, Poppy said to me, "I will be glad when the citron melons are all gone! Now what are you fixing to do"? "Make preserves, why? Why would it bother you that I want to make more preserves", said I. "Oh, it doesn't bother me. I just wondered why you would want to make more preserves", said Poppy. So, I made more preserves. We have these conversations a lot. :[
Oh, every time I look up I see the dust and cobwebs on these old jars and bottles...
I've brought the ladder inside but keep putting off this big job of dusting. Collections are fun but not when it comes times to dust! I dare not show you the entire collection...well maybe a small picture at the bottom.
These old blue canning jars remind me of Grandma Comer. I distinctly remember seeing her open a jar of pickled beets and I remember blackberries canned in jars like these.
This is my Grandma and Grandpa Comer. Grandpa died ten days before I was born.
My Niece Vicki lives near my grandparents old home place. Since we were in Robbins last week and having lunch with Vicki, she suggested we drive by. How sad to see the house and barn so run down. Still very beautiful to me...
The house was beautifully built...hard to explain, but a covered porch was across the back of the house, which went across a center section where there were bedrooms, then turned and extended across the front of the kitchen. The kitchen is the roof section you can see in the back. Like a box with one side cut out.
Some of the small out buildings...
The barn. The paved road used to be a dirt path separating the house from the barn. If I were fortunate enough to own this place, I would live here.
Okay, enough for today! As mama used to say, "I have simply got to get busy"! Thank you for visiting.

It is Poppy's turn to dust!
I've finished one more altered skirt. This one is my favorite. Now if only I can muster up the nerve to wear it. Lynn says, "mom, wear what you love"! I love the pink linen with the cut work bottom...
The sewing room makes me happy. Old things make me happy. Once at a yard sale I found a very old cigar box filled with sewing notions. Who could resist buying something like that for a dollar or two?
Quart jars of old buttons make me happy. Do you reckon there could be any buttons here worth anything? Poppy might could quit work and I could buy a donkey... :)
There are some really old buttons here. Take a closer look...
I would never be lucky enough to happen upon something worth a lot of money.
Looking at these buttons sometimes I see one that brings back memories...like remembering seeing the same button on one of Aunt Berlie's simple cotton dresses. She used to order her dresses from the Sears Roebuck catalog. Once when I was spending a few days with her, she ordered a dress for me too. A simple little cotton dress.
Maybe it's the old glass buttons that are worth something and some of these look like glass...
Oh well, enough about becoming rich off old buttons.
Oil lamps make me happy. Once upon a time, back before we invested in a generator, Poppy and I used all these oil lamps. During every storm seems like we lost our electricity. It was fun lighting the oil lamps. I will never understand though how people read or for that matter did anything by the light of an oil lamp. Mama used to say that her daddy read the Bible every night. I'm sure it was by the light of an oil lamp and maybe the flickering light from the fire in the fireplace. That reminds me...Mama had two brothers, Henry and Charlie. Mama said her daddy would get a fire going in the fireplace and Charlie would start messing with the fire. Grandpa would say, Charlie if you'll leave the fire alone it will burn! That was many years ago. Mama was born in 1917 and she was just a girl back when Charlie would play with the fire.
Some of the oil lamps scattered throughout our little house...
The lady in the picture is Lynn, my daughter. This is a copy of a painting done by Jeffrey Mims, an artist in Southern Pines...
Whew! Sometimes I get carried away. Thank you for visiting!

Funny, when we first moved into our little log home we thought there was nothing like sitting on the screened-in back porch. The cabin was built in the middle of thick woods, so there was an abundance of wildlife around. Sometimes the frogs would get so loud you would feel like you were going crazy!!! Anyway, Poppy and I don't sit out on the porch like we used to.

The usual thunder storms started up around 7:00 pm last night. When the clouds got dark and rolling and the wind got up pretty strong we decided to sit on the porch!!! Thunder could be heard rumbling in the distance, and I didn't feel too afraid. There's something very special about hearing the sound of rain coming, and then all of a sudden it's over you, beating down on the roof. Daddy used to say, "listen, you can hear the rain coming", run to the house"!! I had just said to Poppy..."once it gets to raining hard I expect lightening"...and sure enough...a streak of lightening...I jumped over that wicker table and Poppy's legs and made it to the door just as it thundered!!!
A few antique tools, bridles, saws, etc., on the porch wall...
Speaking of old things...I love old granite ware!!! A lot of this collects dust, but I use most the pieces. The blue pot with the lid (top shelf) is perfect for cooking a turkey breast, and the large covered roaster pan for cooking a whole turkey. The other large pots with lids I use when I'm canning beans...to bring the beans to a boil before packing in jars. It's just more fun to use granite ware...My chicken feed bucket is granite ware too.
Before I go, one more antique...me
Before the rain yesterday, Poppy asked for my camera...this is the picture he brought me...
Thank you for visiting. Hope to be back soon.
