A few thoughts this morning

Here we are three days into the new year and I don't really know how to follow through with my resolution of, "living in the moment".

Yesterday was like a flash. I did get the house straightened and a little of the dust wiped off some of the furniture and all the while thinking, "tomorrow, I will shampoo that filthy living room carpet". Don't think I've changed one bit.

Will y'all be glad when the last of the Christmas candy is gone? I should throw it out, but no, I feel like every piece must be eaten. What do you think of my newest bunny? This little bun bun gift was from my Granddaughter Madison.

Sunday, Poppy and I drove to the Cracker Barrel in Emporia Virginia where we met daughter Andee and son-in-law Todd for breakfast. "Pecan pancakes" for Andee and me! It was fun and the pancakes were delicious. We ate breakfast, exchanged gifts, and visited a while before parting. Emporia is about half way between our home and theirs. Let me just say, my camera was in my coat pocket the whole time...carried along so there would be a picture for my blog! Think I'll change my New Year's resolution to, "remember to take pictures"!

Looks like our scarecrow has lost weight and grown some hair. His clothes are all wet from the rain. I've made him a new smaller head but waiting for the rain to stop and for him to dry out a bit.

Between rain showers I've been spreading that pine straw in the goat lot. Grass is what we need, but for now, I'm trying to stop the little goat lot from washing away down the hill and into the woods.

this was from one warm sunny day a while back. The lot slopes down a pretty steep hill in back.

Not much to post about this morning except maybe the weather. There was a tornado warning issued about thirty minutes ago for a county quite a few miles east of us, but still in NC. Hope this front moves right along! Thunderstorms in January!  :(

I need to stretch out and relax, like Smokey.

Hope to be back soon.

Love,
Henny

Trying to keep calm

Have you ever spent an hour or two writing a post then decide it's just not what you want to say, so you delete the whole thing? I did that very thing yesterday. Got to venting about the neighbor's dogs killing our little white guinea, you know, the one that climbed the ladder every night. Poppy saw the whole thing, but could not get there in time to help. Better stop here, before I get wound up again.

So, Mr. Scarecrow scared away the owls during the night but sadly there was nothing he could do to scare away the dogs.

The teeny tiny garden still had a row of okra trying to grow and a basil plant. Yesterday I finished cleaning up the garden.

Here's the basil. Once it is dried it may not be fit to use but it was fun clipping and tying the little bundles to hang...and it smells so good. Don't know how those oil lamps got moved out of place. Things like that drive me crazy.

That's about it for now. We may have company later on today. My sweet grandson Daniel called and said he wants us to meet his girlfriend. Daniel is the oldest of the grandchildren and very special. Hopefully, I will remember get my camera out. Better get busy and at least wipe the dust off things!

Don't you just hate people who bring home dogs and then don't take care of them. I blame the stupid owners of the dogs that are killing our guineas more than I blame the dogs. I'll hush!

Love,
Henny

More about the scarecrow and other stuff

Don't know if the scarecrow scared away any owls last night, but it did scare me early this morning. When I walked out the back door carrying the compost and caught a glimpse of a man on the steps, well, I almost dropped my bucket. Seeing him from the back especially, wearing that black hood, he looked real!

Think we could have gotten any closer? I'm no good at taking selfies. Looks like I need longer arms.

We haven't lost another guinea. It could be the scarecrow is working, or that the owls have found our neighbor's guineas. They  live down in the bottom near the creek and have, or had, twenty guineas. I hope not. Poor guineas.

Here's Bun Bun's cage with the bedroom attached, the one I hauled all by myself from the goat lot down to the old dog lot. Kind of ragged looking but Bun Bun sure likes it better than the small wire cage he was sleeping in.

and this was moving day for Bun Bun's cage and all the attachments...an actual wagon train moving along.

Now, I'm looking for a better cage for Fiona, and speaking of Fiona, she has shown no sign of having baby bunnies. I'm probably the only person on earth with a female bunny that can't get pregnant. Crazy, isn't it!

This is the cutest rabbit hutch for sale on Craigslist...

They are asking $100.00 or best offer. I'm hoping it is still available and will consider the best offer I can make which will be $75.00. I've emailed them but have not heard back.

Okay, I go on and on about nothing and create a very boring post. I sure appreciate your not giving up on me and my blog. We just live a pretty dull life. Thank goodness for the sweet animals who live here!  :)

Love,
Henny

The scarecrow...or scareowl

Want to know why I made this big silly looking scarecrow this late in the season?

It is supposed to scare away owls. We've lost twelve grown guineas since the beginning of spring. Only three left of the fifteen best guineas we've ever owned. These were the guineas that were hatched late in the season last year and I cared for them all through the cold winter months.

I read on line that a scarecrow would frighten away owls, but you need to move the scarecrow from place to place occasionally.

Her head is way too big, but yesterday was Monday, Poppy went back to work, and I was busy busy! Too busy to re-do her head. She borrowed my cutest overalls, which look much better on her than on me anyway.

Before dark last night, Poppy secured her to back steps not far from the cedar tree where the three guineas roost, then hooked up a light to shine on her.

Don't usually hang clothes in the front yard but it was so darn hot yesterday, and this line, still up from the yard sale, was close to the front door...so why not! I did hang the sheets on the clothesline in the back. A neighbor stopped by and said, you need to take a picture of the quilts on the clothesline.

Been meaning to tell you that after adding lime to the pond, the algae went away. We are so glad! It looks much better and especially so after Poppy mowed.  Eli likes it too!

Better get busy. Got more things to do and Poppy will be home at noon. Don't the days just fly!

Speaking of being busy....in Walmart, I spoke to an elderly lady, bout like myself, I've known since 2003. She has worked at Walmart what seems like forever! I said to her, I thought you would have retired by now. She said, "now why would I retire and sit home looking at four walls"?  I just can't imagine! There has always been SO MUCH to do at home! Everybody is different!

Henny
