Visiting Andee

I've been away on a little vacation! Sorry I left with telling anyone.

Yep, early Sunday morning, I drove all by myself waaay up into Virginia to visit my daughter Andee.  

It was sure nice to get away, and even nicer having a couple of days with Andee.

These sweet little bun bun dishes are a gift from Andee. I just love them! She is always buying me something with bunnies. She is a sweet sweet daughter.

Now you would think I would have taken a good picture of the two of us together for my blog, but no, only this cute picture of Andee, Bruno, and Percy...

All's well that ends well!

Andee and I went to all our favorite shopping places and also a couple of thrift stores...oh, it was fun!! 

and Red, from Hiawatha House, if you happen to be reading this, I couldn't help but think of you when we stopped here...

A group of bird watchers had gathered to see the Cedar Waxwings...

These birds were beautiful and this tree was filled with them, but by the time the idea hit me to take a picture, lots of the birds had scattered. Of course! Me, always a day late and a dollar short!

Friends, you know that driving alone up to Virginia, meant crossing that Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel all by myself! It was scary. But even scarier, was driving home alone. There were heavy fog warnings all along the way and friends, as we emerged from the tunnel, going up on the bridge, the fog was so dense that all I could see were the tail lights of the car in front of me. 

I was sure hoping and praying, there would not be a wreck, on that four and half mile bridge, over all that water.

and once again, all's well that ends well!

I'm back!

It's me, Henny, home again, and as mama used to say, "I don't know which way to turn!" 

The little vacation was wonderful! Time spent with my daughter and granddaughter was wonderful! Not having to cook for three days was wonderful!

and here's another wonderful! I got to meet a very special blogging friend, Dianna, from the blog forgiven. It was so exciting! Let me tell you, she is as sweet and friendly, and sincere in person as she is on her blog. We didn't have enough time, so our visit was way too short. I'm hoping to go back one day and we can maybe have lunch together. At least we got to meet. Thank you Dianna for waiting in the heat and humidity for us. Andee got a picture of Dianna and me...for my blog, but, of course, my eyes were closed and my mouth was open, so I'm not posting that one.   

Back home at Andee's, this is Madison's kitty cat, Percy...

he is adorable...big old thing! He's a tad overweight and has a crooked little mouth, and doesn't seem to care who holds him.

On our little trip, we stopped at a place called Coopers Rock. Oh my, it was breathtaking! Yes, that is my granddaughter Madison walking down the steep side of that rock in wedge hill oops! heel shoes. I was scared to death she would turn her ankle or fall! 

my nerves were shot! We got out of there without a scratch. :) I am truly a world traveler, can you tell? Call me mama!

Okay, this is my post! Hopefully, I will be back soon. Can't wait to show you how the teeny tiny garden is growing. Now I am off to read some really good posts...yours!

Oh, that first picture, that's my dream home. I snapped it along the way...seems like it was western Maryland maybe. We had driven through lots of rain and thunderstorms, and I love the way the clouds dipped down over that beautiful farm.

Going away for a few days

I'm leaving...on a jet plane!    Not really, but I am leaving at noon today in my 1998 Toyota Corolla. Going north to Virginia to see my daughter Andee. Then Andee and I are going to see my granddaughter Madison at her college.

Poppy will be here alone with just the animals to keep him company. I've pointed out where the groceries are kept, and where he will find a spoon and fork. :)  Hopefully, he won't starve before I can get back on Sunday.

Good gosh!! Be sure to tell him where you keep the cat food!

My biggest worry is having to cross that long Monitor-Merrimack Bridge and tunnel in Virginia...

Bridges and tunnels scare me and this one gives me goosebumps just looking at the picture!

Our special trip to Missouri

Poppy and I do very little traveling so hope you will understand my excitement over a little drive through the mountains, with my $99.00 camera.

We enjoyed our trip to Missouri, tiring as it was, driving straight through...fourteen hours on the road, then having only two days, Friday and Saturday, to spend with Windy, Brian, and the grandsons. We left Missouri at 4:30 Sunday morning to drive home. Why, to me, riding fourteen straight hours was more tiring than walking nine miles at the Fair.

We were still in North Carolina, near Mount Airy, when we reached the first mountains. I was so excited to see Pilot Mountain, but friends, I had no idea the beauty we were about to drive into

as we entered the West Virginia Turnpike. I mean 88 miles of nothing but up and down and around and through, and I do mean through! the beautiful mountains...

two tunnels that cut right through the mountains! You know, I'm not crazy about tunnels or long bridges over lots of water. I must have said to Poppy a hundred times, "could you slow down just a little...especially heading into a tunnel going 70 miles an hour,  for goodness' sake"!!!

These are not great pictures because every one of them were taken through the car window. Why, there is no stopping on the turnpike and besides that, we were on a mission...get to Missouri!!

About half way there the clouds got dark and stormy looking. So the second half of the trip was on a mix of rain and mist

and fog in places.

It was the edge of dark when we saw the arch, and knew we were getting close.

We were up early Friday morning and off to see Jacob and his school's marching band compete in the Bands of America Super Regional Championship in Saint Louis. 

It was great, just great, and out of 65 competing bands, Jacob's came in 12th. It was exciting. We all were mighty proud.

Saturday morning we were out and about early again, this time to watch Luke play football...

Is this not just about the cutest football player ever! This was an important game for Luke. If their team won, they moved on, if not this was his last game of the season...and they won, big time!

Okay, you know how I love little mice...well, never would I have imagined cuddling two grown rats...yes that me holding Becky and Ellie...

These are Luke's pet rats. They live in the cutest little cage in Luke's bedroom.

Becky and Ellie sleep together in their cute little swinging tent, which looks a touch chewed...but then, these are rats. Sorry, but I thought they were adorable and enjoyed playing with them.

I will end this post by showing you Windy's spider plant. It was beautiful!

She had planned to give me a cutting...one of the little spiders to start, but in all the excitement, we forgot. I just love the sunlight coming through these windows. There is no way any plant could grow this pretty in our dimly lit log cabin. 

Okay, if you are still here, thank you. Crazy, I know. We visit St. Louis Missouri and I come home and post about holding two rats. Guess it takes very little to make me happy.

More beach and a little news

Don't know who's feet these prints belong to, but it did make a neat picture.

Good grief, seems like everywhere there are little animals to worry about. We spotted at least three birds with one of their legs missing. This was the smallest of the birds and missing a little foot...

and another one on the far right...

The boy running in our direction with a handful of sand, scared the birds away.

Then there were the kitty cats that roamed from room to room at the motel...

We climbed the sand dunes late Saturday after enjoying a big seafood dinner. Hopefully, we walked off a few calories... 

and looking back...we only climbed half way up, darn it!

and in the big yellow shop below, Poppy agreed to smile for a picture...

Okay, I've been on the computer way too long!

I did want to mention, however,  that "Henny's Bonnet Shop", based in The Teeny Tiny Sewing Room, :) is now out there for the whole world to see. It has been fun thinking about all this.

We're back!!

I can't believe all the happy birthday wishes! Thank you!

It was a happy birthday indeed! Our little vacation trip to the beach was absolutely wonderful!

Never, have I been so excited to walk in the sand and feel that sea breeze,

and just take in the beauty of it all.

and how fortunate that tropical storm Julia stayed away from the Outer Banks. Not a drop of rain did we see, only sunshine, and the clouds we did see only added to the beauty. The weather was perfect and there was a nice cool breeze.

Talk about luck! The rain got here just as we were getting home. Much needed rain too!

Not much of a post here. Just wanted check in and say, "we're back"!  I won't scare you away with too many pictures, but there is another thing or two for a post.

A little vacation

I wasn't going to say anything, but, well, today is my birthday. Not much going on here, but I'm feeling pretty happy. Friday morning Poppy and I are driving to the Outer Banks of North Carolina...Nags Head, to be exact...the beach! We're meeting Andee and Todd there.

Will I even know how to act?? This will be our birthday party...mine and Andee's, since her birthday was last Thursday, the 8th.

Long skirts and tee shirts pretty much describes my wardrobe. I do have a couple pairs of old jeans that I wear gardening and working here at home...so packing for a few days at the beach...well, let me just say that my half of the suitcase would have been empty. 

The stores just don't carry my kind of clothes any longer so I made a trip to the Goodwill store yesterday... 

all washed and ironed and looking brand new, I now have 2 pairs of shorts, (knee length), new jeans, the tan capri's (is that what those are called now?), 1 pair grey knit pants, and these really cute...

blue striped seersucker shorts...and the cost, $14.00, for everything! Why, Poppy paid $14.00 for his new cap.

Anyhow, better get busy. Can't wait to see the ocean again, walk in the sand, pick up shells, wade in the water...and I do mean wade. I'm afraid of sharks and crabs and seriously do not want to get washed out to sea. I'm kidding... Oh, and eating out three times a day, looking forward to that!!
