August 24th, my last post! And I was doing so well!

Anyhow, I've so much to tell you and show you! Oh, but don't get excited. It's just simple little things that make me happy. :)

Like Fall being here and all the pretty pine straw that fell on my path behind the playhouse...

only leaves here but this reminds me of an old outhouse. :)

and down behind the house...I love the Fall shadows...

Gosh, since this picture was taken, it really does look like Fall. Leaves have covered the brick path.  

Anyhow, moving on with some extra special news. Okay, I've been searching everywhere for a spayed female rabbit. A companion for Randall Rabbit. 

So, a few days ago I did the usual checking at Orange County Animal Services and there they were...two little female bunnies needing a loving home. I called my daughter Lynn! "Lynn", I asked. "If I brave the traffic on I-85 and drive to your house, will you go with me to adopt two bunnies from Orange County Animal Services"? You see, Lynn lives in Durham, about an hour's drive from me, and Orange County Animal Services is about a fifteen minute drive from Lynn's. "Sure I will Mom". She said...

This is Princess, and here's Princess's mother, Star...

Both Bunnies are living on the back porch for the time being since both had been spayed the day before I adopted them. They needed extra care and be given pain medication for two days. The funny part is, my intentions were to adopt one bunny. "Bring home only one rabbit", Poppy said loud and clear before I left that day. So, while at OC Animal Services and Lynn and I were locked inside the little visiting cell enjoying the bunnies, one of the workers popped her head in and said, "we will make you a deal if you adopt both bunnies", two for the price of one", she said. The bunnies are mother and daughter. Awww, I couldn't adopt one and leave the other. :(

Arriving back at Lynn's she asked if I could stay long enough to see her little garden and workshop. Of course I could! Friends, Lynn can take nothing and turn it into something fantastic. If you will, take a look inside Lynn's workshop...

A HALLOWEEN SPECIAL

Halloween on Henny Penny Lane...

For Halloween, my daughter Lynn did something with her journal called "October Daily," where she did a journal spread each day in October. Her journal is about witches, learning more about what happened in history and how the witch-hunt craze became so horrible and widespread. The journal is also fun and full of bright paper, sketches and old images. This particular spread is about my twin sister and her being born in what they called a "veil."

Lynn's journals are amazing, but this "October Daily", to me, is super amazing. One of my favorite entries is Episode 7. You can see Lynn's Episode 7, and others, on YouTube at abitofbirdsong.

The big event on Saturday

Have you ever seen a prettier place for vendors to sell their crafts? This is the "Pork, Pickles, and Peanuts" event at the Duke Homestead in Durham that Shelby and I attended on Saturday...

We're there, under the first white tent on the left. It was such a fun day, and we were busy! Very busy! We hardly had time to speak to each other...but the sells were good!

and way, way back there, where you can see folks milling around is the Duke homestead, the old wooden fence, and tobacco growing in the field. Back there too was where the barbecue cook-off and pie competition were being held.

I really wanted to walk around and take pictures of the homestead (now can't you just see me doing that) but we simply did not have time, so I borrowed a picture off the internet. It took all the nerve I could muster up to walk far enough away from our table to get the two pictures that I did. Seriously.

Aww, that's my sweet daughter Lynn. She stopped in to see us.

So, now I've got plenty of catching up to do, not only blogging, but sewing and doll making. All my little country dolls sold on Saturday. Yay!

Would you believe that Poppy now has a "to do" list? He sure does, and has been steady marking stuff off.

One item was putting up a new clothesline for me. He got that done first thing this morning. 

He put the new line way up high. Said it needed to be high to hold the heavy stuff. Why, I had to stand on my tip-toes to hang this little load of whites. Oh, by the way, MK, that's one of my many white (thrift store) skirts on the line. MK blogs at throughaglass,darkly.blogspot.com  and like myself, she loves white skirts. I love her blog! Is there still going to be a white skirt club?

The little goat barn has been leaking lately, every time it rains...so Poppy got the new tin roof put on. Something else marked off his list.

Guess that's about it for now. Oh, I was surprised to see two new followers, Debra and Beca. Thank you so much. So, I'm hoping to be back soon.

An odd post!

Couple of things here...well maybe three, or four!

Sure enjoyed your comments and thoughts about going barefooted! Got me to thinking about the dangers, and the injuries I've had because of running around without shoes...

like here in my bare feet...we were living here when, riding on the back of Shelby's bicycle, my heel caught in the bicycle chain. I remember my cut heel and the screaming and crying and scaring mama half to death.

And do you remember how easy is used to be to find broken glass on the ground? Seriously! We played Hopscotch, a lot! and the first step in playing was to find a piece of glass to throw. It was easy finding a piece...probably because back then, late 1940's, folks had trash piles where they dumped their garbage. There was no plastic, so it would have been just broken dishes, wood, paper, metal cans. It was fun looking for a pretty piece of a broken dish to play with. 

Then in the 1950's after we moved from South Carolina back up to North Carolina...I was playing barefoot in the back yard and stepped on a jagged piece of a broken drinking glass. A jagged edge went between my toes, making a pretty bad cut. 

Oh, and wading in mud puddles after a big rain. Now that was fun, except for mama telling us over and over how we would get worms.

And stepping on honey bees in the clover! The many stings I've had on the bottom of my feet!

And next friends, somehow, I deleted the main picture I wanted to show you of the strawberries Shelby and I picked. Duh! So, it will be at the bottom of this post.

how my daughter Lynn...

is making junk journals. This must be the thing, now!

I was just watching and listening to her YouTube video about her latest journal, "The Lusty Month of May", springtime junk journal. When she finished the journal and listed it in her Etsy shop, it sold in two minutes! and all her journals sell like that.

Anyhow, if you would like to see that springtime journal, or how she makes these journals; it amazes me,  go to youtube and enter abitofbirdsong then click on the one titled Lusty Month of May. I think it's pretty neat! She sure got her confidence and nerve from her dad and not from me. Goodness no!

Shy and backwards growing up; that was me...and haven't changed much over the years. Why, I used to ask mama if it was alright if I ate one of the biscuit she had cooked for breakfast. Once, when I was a teenager, I walked all the way to the garden where mama was busy chopping to ask if it was alright if I took a bath and was it alright to use the bar of soap laying on the bathtub. Scared to death of doing something wrong! 

Don't you bet mama got tired of my questions? If she did, it never showed.

Now, here's those strawberries...

Bet you could hardly wait. :)

Okay, now I'm off to finish vacuuming, then it's outside to pick up sticks and limbs. We were under a severe storm warning late yesterday afternoon. Got high winds and lots of rain!

Another little visit

Am I getting slack? Sure hope not! I love blogging and love all you blogging friends, very much!

our very cluttered little living room with way too many patterns and textures and stuff :(

Between raking leaves and trying to Christmas shop, there has hardly been time for anything else. 

I am not a good shopper of gifts, matter of fact is, I'm awful. Why if all those hours spent humming and hawing and looking in the stores had been spent raking leaves, the yard would be leafless!

This was Lynn, last Saturday in a Durham parking lot. She was waiting for me to arrive. We planned to Christmas shop, all day! I came home with one gift, but that's okay. The best part was spending the day with Lynn, and visiting with Jason. 

But, today is another shopping day, and I have simply got to come home with some gifts! 

Before leaving...friends, I have mastered the leaf blower!!  Don't have a picture, but will get one and show you later. I, and all those leaves, must have looked like a whirlwind!!

Been out visiting...

Thinking I had better check in. Good gracious, go somewhere for a day and it takes a week to catch up! 

Monday, I Christmas shopped. Tuesday, I met daughter Lynn in Durham. We left my car in a grocery store parking lot, she drove, and we had a fun day together. 

Our first stop Starbucks. Best cup of coffee I've had in months, well, since my other daughter Andee and I were together and stopped for a "white mocha" at Starbucks.

Our next stop was to visit my Grandson Joseph and his wife Lori and see my Great Grandchildren Greyson and Addie...

Addie is adorable! Joseph woke her from a nap, and she came out with a smile on that sweet little face and held her arms out to me. 

I don't who was having more fun, Addie or grandma Lynn. That's Joseph on the sofa.

There are no pictures of little Greyson or Lori, and we did take some. Greyson is a cutie pie too. It's early morning so later Lynn can send me more pictures. I can post one tomorrow. Wow. Crazy me.

Before going shopping, we stopped by Lynn's shop...

Sweet Daughters

Can you believe it? Can you believe how time flies?

Those fun days with Lynn and Andee have come and gone and here another week has begun...

What a special couple of days we had together...

and Eli thought this visit was planned just for him.

Weetie says, "Andee belongs to me Eli, you stay over there with Lynn"!

Oh my, we ordered pizza for Friday night and then stayed up until after midnight talking and laughing. 

Friday, when we finally got out of the house, we stopped by Goodwill first. I then suggested we run by another little local thrift store, "Safe Space" and as luck would have it, they were having a five dollar bag sale!! We all filled a bag. One of us filled three bags!! (it was Lynn)

We made it back home in time to walk Eli and play with the the goats. Did I mention that Weetie loves Andee?

Rosie was a trip! She really put on a show, acting like she was some big mountain goat...butting those horn and standing on her hind feet. I snapped picture after picture but never got a good one.

I sure hated to tell my girls goodbye

There is a hint of color in the trees. Guess this is as good as it's going to get this fall...

"Sidetracked" and The Scrap Exchange

Dearest friends,

I simply must write a post, right this minute. The lost pictures have been found and are right here at Henny Penny Lane...as big as day.  This was one light bulb I was happy to see come on!

On the post about Lynn's shop I really wanted to show you the little caboose, "Sidetracked", but as you know, could not get the picture to move and open,  but look...

Is this not the cutest thing! It's those two little windows on top that lets the warm sun shine in and brightens the shop. However, looks like this was taken on a cloudy day. The little garden out front is new. Won't things look pretty come spring? 

Another unique place Lynn and I visited  was The Scrap Exchange in Durham...

and scraps it was! of everything!

Have you ever!

in your life! This store has barrels and bins of everything imaginable. You can buy old buttons by the ounce and paper stuff!. Pages from old magazines and books are weighed and sold. This is where Lynn buys some of her old post cards and pictures.

and oops! Yep, that's me going through bits and pieces of little doll heads and such. Lynn slipped this one in. The only decent pictures of me in this world are those taken without me knowing. I am definitely too self conscious to look into the lens of camera. Poppy will say, just look at the camera and smile...but no, I have to turn it into a freak show.

Poppy's asked, who is that girl beside you? Just another customer, I said. Well, she looks like she should be with you and Lynn since that's the way you both dress. :) We did compliment her on her bag and her dress.

Should have taken pictures of the front of the store...when we first walked inside, it was neat.  There was lots more to see, but this is all my pictures. You're probably breathing a sigh of relief! 

Guess you can tell how special my day was with Lynn. Sometimes it does your heart good to change your routine and get away from the house. I appreciate my sweet daughters and love being with them both.
