Listen to the Mockingbird

Again, thank you very much for the nice comments and get well wishes for my broken bones...resulting from a foolish accident caused by no one but me! I do love and appreciate you, my blogging friends!

Anyhow, while up at the teeny tiny playhouse...moving and re-arranging things with my one good hand, I was entertained by a mockingbird. Have a little video here...

Entertaining at first but then I began to worry, this mockingbird was serious. He was bound and determined this intruder was not moving in on his new home. I decided right then, the mirror needed to be taken down or covered up.

I found a brightly colored piece of posterboard and cut a circle that would fit over the mirror...what really made me feel bad was finding blood on the mirror...this bird meant business! So, all is well now...

As soon as the sun was up and shining yesterday morning the mockingbird was back, sitting atop the playhouse wall, satisfied he had won this fight and the playhouse belongs to him.  Hope he plans on sharing the space with me.

and the morning glory vine! Who would've thought...

Big pretty blooms keep opening...

and on the subject of birds and such, what kind of bird builds a nest like this...

Actually, that's Poppy putting up new camo netting around a tree stand he plans to use for deer hunting.

All neat and finished. A little covered chair on the side of a tree.

What was that noise! A deer, maybe?

and here's Miss Ellie. Can you believe how she has grown up?

and a bowl of spilled ice. :) Guess that's about it for this post. Thank you for visiting, friends.

Love,

Henny

still can't figure out why the print size changes and makes the post look so ugly!

Falling oops! Leaves and other silly things

Earlier, I started a post looking out the back screen door...

saying there were no fall colors here yet, then thought, well let me take another look...

so carrying the camera, I walked around the outside of the house and down to the pond...

and actually found some pretty fall colors, and there on an old log, sat a big frog...

then going back up the leaf strewn path to the house...

past the rusty old yard chairs that need a coat of paint...

and around to the front of the house where the little willow oak leaves are starting to fall...

and friends, this is just the beginning of the falling leaves. Another few weeks and we will be ankle deep in leaves; not a speck of green will show through.

I love the little willow oak leaves that fall in the front yard and enjoy raking them. It's the willow oak leaves I use to cover the teeny tiny garden before cold freezing weather sets in.

While wantering around, I made another picture of Poppy's new carport. I'll tell you why...

In passing, something about it reminded me of a covered bridge...so this will be "the covered bridge" on Henny Penny Lane. :) How's that for make believe?

Made me remember "The Bridges of Madison County", the book and the movie.  Oh my gosh! But I really wanted Francesca to run away with Robert Kincaid. I mean, how could she not have gone with him! But then, I love Clint Eastwood!

Okay back to the yard, and the dullness of my life. The most excitement I've had lately is breaking my wrist, and the new knobs and pulls on the kitchen cabinets.

Oh, and would you look...

While down at the pond taking pictures, a plane flew over, heading to RDU from up north. I just pointed the camera up and had no idea I would see the plane in the picture. Had to zoom in, but there it is. Takes very little to make me happy. :)

Let me end this here. I'm going in all directions! Sure appreciate you all!

Love,

Henny

Thank You Kindly

My dearest blogging friends,

I feel awful for not getting back and replying to each of you for your nice comments and well wishes concerning my broken wrist. You left lots of good advice and encouraging words and I appreciate that.  Thank you very very much.

Close your eyes! You're not going to believe this...well, except maybe for Connie, over at Far Side...

Yep, this massive morning glory vine that has grown since early spring, covering most of the garden fence on one side, has produced a bloom. Just made my day, even though it's not quite the shade of blue I was expecting. You were right Connie. You said it would probably bloom before cold weather.

Walked around the yard a bit this morning. Remember the row of Beauty Berry bushes I planted year before last...

They have grown really fast and are loaded with berries...

Oh and one of my favorite flowers that blooms in October when other flowers are fading...

Obedient plant (False Dragonhead), a very invasive plant. Why just look down in the woods where I throw the "dead stems"...

Anyhow...

Yesterday was my appointment with the orthopedic doctor...I decided to go with a lovely black cast that would compliment any outfit. :) yeah right...

Not my thinking at all. I chose a black cast that would not show the dirt and filth I pick up out here in the woods, feeding animals and toting buckets of water.

Oh friends, you know the worst part? This is fall of the year. Time to clean up the garden and rake leaves. I had, just a few days ago, finished my "fall to do list". Big plans, I'm talking about! Plans involving a chain saw, clippers, a shovel, a wheelbarrow for hauling dirt and rocks, muscle!! :(

I have, however, decided on some things I CAN do...Thank goodness, I'm left handed. I can pull weeds with one hand. Vinca vine has invaded one end of the vegetable garden.  Also might try spreading out a tarp and raking the little willow oak leaves from the front yard onto the tarp then dragging them up to the garden. Raking with one hand may be kinda' hard to do. Daddy always said, "you can do anything you set your mind to".

Guess that's about it for now.  Only 8:30 and I'm sleepy. Didn't rest good last night. Just couldn't find a comfortable spot for this cast. Maybe I will join the crowd in the living room...

Henny

Pecking out a little post with one finger...

Absolutely, not the best picture I've ever seen of me...

You know what happened?? Walking Ellie early yesterday morning, I dropped her leash, walked way ahead, turned around, opened my arms and yelled, "run Ellie run"! Well she ran alright...picking up speed as she ran...then ran right over the top of me, slamming me to the ground.

Poppy, Eli, and Ellie hovered over me as I moaned in pain. Give me your hand Poppy said, I'll pull you up. No! no! no! I need to stay here a minute, something may be broken. Well, after three hours in the emergency room, the doctor told me I have two broken bones in my wrist. Wearing a splint now, but have an appointment with an orthopedic doctor on Friday. My fingers are awfully swollen.

Woke up this morning feeling like I'd been run over by a truck, My right leg aches and my knee is swollen.

Ellie felt really bad. Said she thought that's how the game went.

Eli says, I told you so! He came straight in the house and got his bear, before it got hurt too.

Just wanted to let you all know. Hopefully, everything will be okay. Why, its just got to be. The State Fair starts this week. Shelby and I have plans to go one day next week. We've missed two years now and have been really excited about going this year. She said, if you're not able to walk, we'll rent a wheelchair and I will push you around.  We both laughed.

Okay,  guess I'm done with this post. Can't go sew, can't do much of anything. Had no idea it would be so hard to function with just one hand. :)

Take care.

Love,

Henny

Seriously! Where do the days go?

It's been raining here for the last hour or so. We sat on the front porch. The rain brought down lots of little willow oak leaves. It looked like fall. Lifted my spirits.

Before the rain I was up at the teeny tiny greenhouse where the little succulents are growing and making themselves quite at home.

Can you tell they've grown? A few years ago, neighbor Ann gave me the faded, paint chipped, pots. Someone had thrown them out so Ann gathered them up and brought them to me. I think these pots are just right for the little succulents.

In case you're wondering about the junk under the pots...

Well, I had to move all the "old motor-grader road" museum items up to the greenhouse. Poppy said to throw them in the pile going to the junk man, but I simply could not part with them. For those of you who don't know...

the dirt path we live on used to be called "the old motor-grader road".  For a long long time, with every walk, we found old rusted metal pieces; plow points, nuts & bolts, tools, old bottles, etc.. I just can't part with them. Most pieces are probably over 100 years old. Maybe I'll hang a little sign on the greenhouse; "Old Motor-grader Road Museum".  :)

Who knew, I would love succulents so much??

Such pretty little plants...

Okay, enough is enough!

The Antique Tractor Show last Saturday...where I was a vendor...well, it wasn't as much fun as the last one. Not as many vendors, not as many folks walking around. I made a measly $58.00 after all the work and toil of packing, setting up, standing in the hot sun for hours...

The older gentleman with the Model T was there but had his wife along so we didn't see much of him. Last time he was buying bonnets and giving everyone rides. Hummm!

Here's a picture from last time...

Anyhow, here's some of the little dolls I made and carried to the sale...

and a group of homely looking little fellows...

Guess I will get up from here now and go put supper on the table. Don't know what struck me but yesterday I cooked collards, turnips, sweet potatoes, dried butter beans, and cornbread. Had plenty left over so will just warm it up.

Thank you friends for stopping by. Seems like I had something important to post...oh!!! I just remembered!!! It's Poppy's brand new carport...

Never really wanted a carport but now that its here, it's kind of nice. I like it okay...Poppy LOVES it.

Thank you!!

Love,

Henny
