Thank you for looking at the dolls, and I do appreciate the nice comments. I've added them to my silly little shop.
A couple of you were wishing that pantaloons were still in style....well...
of course, I've never been in style in my entire life. This is me wearing my latest pantaloons. These have wider legs than the others I've made.
I love wearing them with an apron, especially those new cross-back aprons that look cute with a tee shirt underneath.
and me again, a few years ago, wearing the old faded green pantaloons...showing off my new perm and trying to look, well, not so old. I've practically worn these out.
Have you ever looked at Sarah Clemen's clothing line? Oh my goodness, I love her pantaloons and pinafores, and would own some of her outfits, but simply can't afford them. Here's her web site... www.sarahclemensclothing.com
Her beautiful clothes are all linen too.
and about making those dolls...After cutting the maple sapling into 8-10" pieces and carving them into something that looks a little like a large old fashioned clothespin...
I use a small piece of muslin cloth, stuff it with cotton, and sew it over the head piece.
I then make simple pantaloons and sew them on each doll...
and sew on a skirt, a square for the blouse, and then make the two fabric arms to match.
the yarn hair is sewn in around the face...
and I use a little hot glue to hold it in place for a ponytail...make the apron and bonnet, and then the scary part...drawing on the face, after all this time spent making the doll!
I've simply got to get off this computer and get busy! Oh, lots of times when I don't get back to reply to comments, or post, or add something to the little shop...well, Poppy has an ebay shop and spends a lot of time taking care of that. :)
Thanks for visiting.
Love,
Henny

ReplyDelete"new cross-back aprons that look cute with a tee shirt underneath."
Wait. What is this?
Thanks for the pantaloon website! (That may be the first time I have ever said that...)
You are as cute as your dolls!
ReplyDeleteHi Henny! I plan on making some pantaloons! I have a ruffle from a dress I wore at my rehearsal dinner 40 years ago and I'm going to use it on my white linen pantaloons. I love yours! LOVE! The dollies are adorable, so sweet.
ReplyDeleteOh, aren't you just the cutest little thing! I wish I could get away with wearing stuff like that! I sent an email about purchasing one of your dolls and a bonnet!
ReplyDeleteGrace & Peace,
Pam
Hi Henny, I liked seeing the picture of you; it's so rare for you to post pics that you're actually visible!!
ReplyDeleteThank you for showing how you make your dolls. I find it fascinating. You take a piece of wood and end up with a pretty doll.
Hubby has an ebay site? Can you give us a link to that, too? :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for showing us how you make your beautiful dolls. Wow...what a lot of work....I love the beautiful colorful material you have in your pics. Your dolls turn out so pretty and I think their faces are lovely too. Hope they all sell quickly!
ReplyDeleteOh, and I love those pics of you too Henny. You look so young and pretty! And quite the snazzy dresser!
ReplyDeleteOh Diane, thank you. That just happened to be a half-way decent day, as far as my looks go. I have aged so much since that picture, and that was only, maybe three years ago. But, I sure appreciate that.
DeleteI have to make some pantaloons, I have a pyjama pattern that would adapt. They are so pretty. The little peg dolls are so cute I may have to try one of those, or maybe two.
ReplyDeleteThank you for showing us how you make your dolls! It is really interesting to see the progress from start to finish. I think your doll faces are adorable and very well done but if you don't like that part I think you can get rubber stamps to do doll faces. (But I like yours better!) Thanks for sharing that website too. Her clothes are beautiful but a little pricey for me too.
ReplyDeleteThank you Bonnie. I'm going to look on-line and see what kind of rubber stamps are out there. Wouldn't that make things easier!
DeleteI may have to try out my whittling skills. I love those beautiful dolls. Thank you so much for being generous enough to show us how to make them. If I have enough fingers left after the whittling, I'll try to dress some in a suitable fashion!!
ReplyDeleteThe dolls are a delight and your generosity showing us how to make them is amazing. I would love to have a go at making one.
ReplyDeleteLove your pantaloons! I followed your link to Sarah Clemens; oh my, what beautiful creations. I love your sweet dolls. Thank you for showing us how you fashion your dolls; you are very clever.
ReplyDeleteLove them. They look so comfy too.
ReplyDeleteI love the pantaloons...and I was amazed at the picture of you in the second picture. I knew Lynn favored you in her looks, but my goodness! The two of you could have passed for twins in that picture!
ReplyDeleteI admire all of the time and effort you put into making the dolls, Henny. I seriously think you should charge more for them.
Thank you Dianna.
Deletethank you for sharing the process of making the dolls! I think you are beautiful Henny, and I love the pantaloons! They never go out of style. Looks great to me! Terry
ReplyDeleteThank you Terry! :)

ReplyDeleteNice to see how you go about making your lovely little dolls. They sure are cute.
ReplyDeleteI can't see myself wearing pantaloons but they are nice. I am most comfortable in my jeans.
Thank you so much for this post! It answers my question as to how I would go about wearing pantaloons since I'm not in the habit of wearing dresses. I guess I forgot I don't have to dress like the dolls do, haha. I don't think I'd look as good as you do in them, but they look ultra feminine and I wouldn't have to compromise comfort for it! Making these dolls looks like crazy amounts of work. Does your husband carve them for you? You are definitely a Virgo if you can make the time for all the farm work and beautiful crafts, too. P.S I love the aprons you mention. I actually fantasize with owning something like that. I'm heading over to the check out the link you gave us. Thank you, again.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I appreciate your visit. Pantaloons really are comfortable to wear. I have found a few short dresses in Goodwill...SHORT dresses that I normally would not wear, but they look cute over pantaloons. I do the carving on my stick dolls, in fact, I do it all, even sawing down the maple sapling. :) I had a hard time finding a cross back apron, so I've been making them and adding them to my little shop.
DeleteI love those pantaloons. In your picture they look like a long skirt. I love that look but never wear it since I think it makes short people look stubby.
ReplyDeleteI went to the website you mentioned-----those are darling clothes----but very expensive. I do wonder how she made those big fluffy flowers that decorate so many of the dresses and tunics.
Thank you Vic. I'm probably shorted than you. I used to be 5'5" but because of osteoporosis, have lost two inches in height. I't scary!! I have got to lose ten pounds!! I've tried to make those big flowers, but can't get them to turn out right. Aren't those pretty!!
DeleteIt's very fun to see how you make your dolls. You do such a lovely, clean job - they are gorgeous and perfect. I had to laugh -- the only part of that project I would enjoy and find fun and easy is ... painting the faces :) Each girl to her own!
ReplyDeleteOh, I sure wish you could paint on those faces for me. You are such a good artist! Guess I'll have to stick with dots for eyes.
DeleteOh my goodness her clothes are just gorgeous! ♥
ReplyDeleteyou are gorgeous! Didn't realize how beautiful you are. And those pantaloons are a kick. Do you wear them when you sell your stuff at shows? I hope so!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, thank you! Today I look like an apple-head doll...with all the wrinkles. At the age I am now, I can see myself aging every day! :(
DeleteThat was a great web site, I enjoyed seeing her clothing. Way too expensive for me. I guess I am too cheap to shop with her. I like your style much better:)
ReplyDeleteThank you. That's a real compliment! I wish I could afford her clothes!
ReplyDeleteLook at how cute you look in your pantaloons with your perm!!! Those dolls are adorable - you are a seriously talented woman!!
ReplyDeleteThank you Debbie. :)
DeleteYou make such pretty things!! I love seeing them. As for "style"--I think we should just not pay much attention to all that, and just have OUR OWN style. I know some of my outfits can be kind of strange, but if I love them, then that is all that matters. It's been a bad week here, we lost our sweet Gypsy. I miss her so much.
ReplyDeleteOh Debbi, I'm so sorry about Gypsy. I will be over to visit.
DeleteI LOVE your old fashioned little dolls they are amazing. Your pantaloons are wonderful, too and you look so cute in them. Where did you find a pattern?
ReplyDeleteThank you Connie. I used McCall's Pattern #4548. I used the pantaloon pattern and cut the legs wider. much wider, and shorter. Then cut a piece of fabric for a wide ruffle to sew on the bottom. I could not find a pattern with the big wide legs like those in the Sarah Clemen's clothing line. I guessed at everything and finally got a pair to turn out right. I opened up a 50# chicken feed bag to draw the pattern on. I would love to order a pair but gosh those are so expensive.
ReplyDeleteMama, you are so beautiful! I love you so much. Thank you for teaching us so much and for being such a good mama. Your girl, Lynn
ReplyDeleteI really like your new decorative designs! it's so beautiful so much and good idea on site.
