Black Walnut Trees along Crabtree Creek

Poppy fills his pockets with black walnuts as he leaves the deer  stand and walks along the creek coming home...

Gosh, it's been 30 years since I picked up black walnuts there. Poppy has permission to deer hunt that property. Here's a smaller black walnut tree growing there too...

I want to shell some of these walnuts, and the hickory nuts too but talk about a job!! Wouldn't a taste of these wild nuts be delicious?

And the tall hickory nut tree that grows along the path on our property...

I'm the one who gathers the hickory nuts...

Add a few ears of dried corn from the garden and...

it makes for a pretty, old fashioned picture. Do any of you love "old fashioned" as much as I do? Sometimes I think I should have lived back in the 1800. (didn't miss it by much, did I) :)

Look, I finally got around to putting up a few fall decorations and got to use some of the dried corn stalks from the teeny tiny garden...

The corn stalks were almost too tall. The dark red mum...

isn't it pretty! Andee brought it to me in September, and the buds have just opened up! I love how mums smell, do you?

I want to show you this tree root I found in the path. It must have fallen off a logging truck. To me, it looks just like a giant spider...

Can't you just see this thing on the side of an old barn or house...

Gives me goosebumps. What do you think, Willie??

So far this fall I haven't decorated the old cupboard, but I did find at Goodwill, the most perfect pitcher, it matches the big heavy dishes...

Hope you will pardon the dust. It is so dry here and when a car or truck goes up the path well, it's like a small dust storm settling over everything. Dust, dust, dust!!

Okay, I've gone on and on about stuff...everything is so pretty in the fall, even covered with dust, so here's few pictures from around the pond...

Guess I should have waited for the leaves to turn more, but I'll be back. :)

Thank you friends.

Love, Henny

Mrs. Orb Weaver

Hey dear friends,

What a different gardening season this has been. A few flowers, well three to be exact, finally came up...

Wasn't sure what they were, but turns out this striking orange bloom is the mexican sunflower.

The butterflies just love them and so do I. Finally! Fowers in my garden!

Grass had almost taken over the garden so I've been clearing out. Flowers and butterflies have a way of lifting my spirits...

Yep, wheelbarrow after wheelbarrow load hauled out. Even pulled up the green bean vines and the wattle fence, but still getting plenty of peppers. These are the Pablano...

Oh, and a special little visitor showed up in my garden...

Mrs. Orb Weaver, or the black and yellow garden spider. She didn't visit at all last summer.

Oh well, soon all the gardening will be done and we will be going into fall, then winter, just around the corner. Winter's good.

I came across this playhouse picture and thought, oh wow! How different it looks now.

and this is now...

What a difference! There is lots about winter I love. We need the winter months. Just thought it would be fun to post both pictures. But for the record...Put me down for summer. :)

Well, now that I've talked your ears off, I will say goodbye...oh, but do want to close with pictures of the succulents.

Remember the little $9.00 bag of cutting I ordered from Ebay a few months ago?

Thanks for looking!

Love, Henny

What now!

Oh dear! I've just deleted my last post and can't find a way to restore it. Don't know how I manage do these things!! 😕

Smokey keeps watch over the cut-over from the top of the car. I tried to tip-toe past....

but he heard me....

by the way, let me tell you about that cut-over...

Instead of the hundred acres of trees that once grew there we now have a hundred acres of weeds...

Tall fuzzy weeds! Strange weeds! Weeds higher than my head!

and for at least a month now we have watched what looks like snow blowing through the yard. It is unbelievable! Look at this little cedar tree...

simply covered in white fuzz! Looks cold and icy, doesn't it?  I have searched for the name of this weed and can't find it.  Willie, would you have any idea? Here's a close-up...

These fuzzy things are everywhere! There's a layer floating on the pond, and it's stuck in all the spiderwebs, it's in Eli's hair, and in my hair. Have even had it in my eyes.

Okay, you know what I hate most about the new blogger? The size of the print changes, all by itself! Drives me crazy!

I spent three days last week cleaning the goat barn, the chicken house, and the bunny lot.

So the two white bunnies now have nice clean pens with wire on the bottom...no more digging. I added dirt, then soft clean hay...

Monday morning I discovered the bunny on the right had dug a huge tunnel and was in the  pen with the bunny on the left. That would have been fine except these two rabbits fight.

Strange, they don't like each other. Before they came here, they were kept in a very small cage with hardly room to turn around. Now, with their own space, they hardly speak to each other. :)

Oh, I've been meaning to show you...
this is a full view of the bunny pen. They have plenty of protection from the rain. This was back in 2016 when Bun Bun was my only bunny. The pen is now sectioned off into four lots and that huge dog house is out of there. I love my bunny rabbits!

Okay, I've got to show you this spider...

This guy had a web that went from a low growing bush, all the way up into a tall tree...

kinda makes me shiver...
and see the fuzzy seed pod in his web?

might as well show you this too...speaking of making me shiver...

My first time ever, seeing one of these. It's an Eastern hog-nose, or spreading adder snake. It was short and fat with such a weird shaped head. Thankfully, this was not in our yard. We were with friends at their home about ten miles from here.

Guess I've driven you all away with this, so I will end here. Hope you will come back...love to have you visit any time! :)

Love,
Henny

Another word or two

Sure appreciate your ideas on heating a small greenhouse. There were some good ones. Someone mentioned an oil lamp. I'm wondering if one would put out more heat than a candle??

Early yesterday I did light one of the big emergency candles, put it on a little table...
and left it burning all day. At the edge of dark, I started to worry so I ran up to the greenhouse and blew the candle out.

The greenhouse door opens easily...I had visions of something pushing the little door open and knocking the candle over.

Oh, about that strange plant...
A couple of you thought millet, and I think you're right...white millet. Looked it up and it looks just like white millet.

The seed stalk did remind me of bird seed and made me think it might be red milo, that heavy seed that seems to make up about 50% of the seed found in bags of economy bird seed.

I buy the economy mix at Walmart. Our side yard stays covered in the red milo. We buy it to throw out for the guineas, ducks, and the few birds that will eat it.

It's about time to fill the feeders with sunflower seeds and something the songbirds will eat. Shelby was just telling me that she had scrubbed her bird feeders using an old toothbrush, and had put them in the sun to dry. I need to do that.

Oh good grief, talking about seeds reminds me, early yesterday morning, getting the feed together for the animals...
I just stood there in unbelief. How did I manage to drop the bucket! Reckon my crocs will ever wear the same?

Better get busy. The days seem even shorter now, darn it! Anyhow, I leave you with this creepy spider...

Poppy took these a few weeks ago and I had forgotten about them.

Oh, I had a funny little  story to tell you of Poppy's hunting time. I'll save it for the next post.

Thank you. Hope to be back real soon.

Love,
henny

My nature post, and a kitty cat

Before getting into my "nature" post, I've got to show you this...

The camera happened to be close by so I snapped this picture of Dumperoo. Have no idea what that is over him, unless there is a little angel hovering there?? :)

Do you know what this is??
"You need to bring your camera and get a picture of this", said Poppy.

"It is the biggest wasp nest I've ever seen".

Oh my goodness!! This thing is as big around as a dinner plate, and has what looks like a thousand wasps.  This nest hangs over the edge of the pond so it was hard to get a good shot from underneath where all the wasps are.

Still no fall-like weather, but the big fall spiders have arrived...

this one, up near the garden, had a huge web and was still busy weaving as I walked underneath.

and another one. This spider saw me...

and hid on the back side of this oak leaf.

Have been meaning to tell you...remember the writing spider on the back screen door?

well, she disappeared, but left this...

My daughter Lynn, who loves spiders, said, "mom, you may want to move that some place else. I don't think you want that many baby spiders on your screen door".

We woke up to a foggy morning yesterday.

in fact, all the pictures taken yesterday would be good for a scary Halloween post. Maybe I will save the others and recall another horror story of how Poppy used to scare me on Halloween night. Of course, I have already posted about the two scariest times.

Not a very exciting post here, so thank you for stopping by.

Love,
Henny
