R.I.P.

If there was ever a sweeter dog than our little Weetie, I just don't know where it would be found.

Weetie lost her life last Tuesday in the most horrific accident. Somehow, and we will never understand why or how, she ran under the wheels of a big dump truck coming down our dirt path and was killed instantly. Our hearts are broken. It will take a long long time to get past this loss and this sadness. I hurt for Weetie.

This country path belonged to Weetie. She traveled  it up and down searching for her family who had moved away. Most of the families in the area had seen her and wanted her, but she chose us and we have loved her for ten wonderful years.

Weetie was my baby. She followed my every foot step. Poppy said many times, "I've never seen a dog love anybody as much as Weetie loves you". It may have looked at times like we favored Eli, with all the pictures, but we never bragged on or made over Eli that I didn't add, "but Weetie is our best girl".

Weetie's little stub of a tail wagged most all the time. She could be asleep and hear one of us say "she" and her tail would wag. Of course, that was because she slept with one ear up.  She was truly a sweetie pie. Poppy named her by dropping the S from Sweetie...Weetie.

Thank you for listening. I leave you with some of my favorite pictures of our little sweetheart, Weetie.

Love,

Henny

A special "thank you" to our neighbor Fred who saw it all and  absolutely took charge. Poppy was at work.

  2. It's heartbreaking to hear this. We know our pets don't have a long life span when we take them into our hearts, but never should anything like this take them away. We've lost cats on the road where there's traffic. For it to happen on a dirt path is unthinkable. Did the driver stop? I just don't have the right words. Please know that my heart breaks with you. Two of our little dogs were similar to your Weetie. We're old, our last little dog Daisy had to be put down a month ago. She was nearly 16 years old and had stopped eating, so it was time. Your loss is so much worse (not making comparisons) and my heart truly goes out to you, your family, the kitties, and Eli. I'm sorry it happened now, at Easter time. God be with you all.

Please dear Henny - when your heart breaks - try to remember what a wonderful life she had with you there & how loved she was. She will be a the Rainbow Bridge now. Sending love & friendship across the oceans & the miles to you dear Henny. x0x0x0x

  4. This was on Daisy's cremation certificate:

    Farewell Master, yet not farewell,
Where I go, ye too shall dwell.
I am gone before your face,
    A moment's time, a little space.
When ye shall come where I have stepped
Ye will wonder why ye wept.

  18. I am so sorry. Poor Weetie, such a sad ending. I think elderly dogs lose their bearings sometimes and their hearing...and accidents happen. I hope you good memories are of some comfort to you.

  21. Henny, I'm so sorry for you and Poppy. As you know, we lost our sweet Chloe girl three weeks ago on Tuesday. Exactly three weeks before your sweet Weetie died so tragically. I would like to think they met each other on the Rainbow Bridge because we shared them both on our blogs. We are still lost. I don't know that we'll ever get over missing her and I know you feel the same way. My heart goes out to you both. I truly do know how you feel. So unexpected, just like Chloe. No time to prepare our hearts and they're gone. You will both be in my prayers and you adjust. Eli too. He's sure to wonder what's happening. Big hugs to you all.
    Blessings and love,
    Betsy

  22. I lost a treasured friend today
The little dog who used to lay
Her gentle head upon my knee
And shared her silent thoughts with me.

She’ll come no longer to my call
Retrieve no more her favourite ball
A voice far greater than my own
Has called her to his golden throne.

When it is time for me to go
And join her there, this much I know
I shall not fear the transient dark
For she will greet me with a bark.

Thinking of you all at this time Henny...
    Especially Eli..!x
    God bless you all...God bless!x

  56. Oh, Henny!!! I'm so so sorry :( We know how heart-breaking it is, the tremendous sense of loss and guilt, even though you did nothing wrong. We lost two precious pups to a similar accident -- inexplicable -- a few years ago. Adam has never gotten over it. But Sweet Weetie had a lovely life with you. There's nothing better for the heart of a dog than to love someone, and she loved you.

  58. I was reading your latest post about your new puppy but wanted to read your post about Weetie. How my heart cries for you. We, too , have lost the dearest pets and parts of our life through accidents and natural deaths.........none of them are easy to go through. We learn to get through it, but it still is a thorn in our hearts for each one. Reflect back on the loving memories you have and know that we all are with your hurt in this
