Porches and color

Well, it's that time of the year when the pond clears up and looks pretty enough to bring us out to sit on the back porch...

and from the porch we can look down at those red lilies that grow 7' tall! I've never in my life...

Today we got a little rain and the tiniest bit of a breeze blew the tallest of the lilies over.

Couldn't leave the lilies lying on the ground so I stuck them in a vase, without a lot of arranging to make them pretty...

Anyhow, the back porch! Our neighbor Ann called and asked if I wanted their two old highback rocking chairs. She said Fred was carrying them to the dump, that I might want them to sit up at the garden...how cute that would be...

Well, it sounded good to me so I said yes! The old chairs never made it to the garden...

Oh, old and worn and comfortable. That's just what this old back porch needs...One of the chairs was blue so I've painted it brown.

The old green rocking chairs that we've used for 30 years, I moved to the other end of the porch...where they fit in pretty good...

Oops! almost forgot to show you the old chair I painted brown...

Looks like a terrible paint job, but there were spots of blue where glue had been used and the brown paint would not cover it. That's okay. The chairs sit good.

While on the subject of porches...again! We finished working on the front porch and got the little half screen door painted. Got to show you...

Remember back when we had the new french doors put up and  bought paint, the color "sweet tea", to paint the doors?? Well, I am so thankful we decided to leave the doors white. The little screen door is painted in "sweet tea" and it would have looked awful on those french doors. It still almost clashes with the red logs...but not quite. There's something I really like about the colors.

Almost forgot, but here's a "before" picture of the little door...

It is an unusual color. Sometimes it looks almost pink. So glad we didn't use it on the new french doors!!

Our Ellie girl is growing, isn't she? and always keeping an eye on me...

Sure appreciate your visiting. Hope to be back soon.

Love,

Henny

  7. HaHa! I do have to laugh...
Can l explain to the followers here
in the UK..That the above photo is
that of a lake..not a pond in the
    UK's eyes..it's a lake..! :).
Everything is so much smaller over
here than the USA..and l mean
    everything!

So how many rocking chairs do have
now Henny..is it four..one for you,
    Poppy, Eli, and Elli..what about
Smokey...! HeHe! He can sit on
    someone's lap..even laptop..! :).

    The lillies look lovely to..they
    were mia Mamas favourite flower..
    She loved the Madonna Lily..
Though in Sicily it is the flower
of death.. the lily is also often featured
in funerals because it also symbolises transience
    and death...
It is an excellent mourning flower....
In America of course the Chrysanthemum
    symbolizes death..! :(.

I'm just off to a coffee morning with
some of my lady neighbours! Plenty of
    cake, coffee and gossip..HeHe! Bless!

    1. Thank you Willie. Your days always sound like fun. Well, I think there is enough rocking chairs now for each of us to have one. :) That's interesting about the Lilies and the Cnrysanthemum. I will look for a picture of the Madonna Lily. My Mother's favorite was the Stargazer Lily.

  9. A bit of blue speckle on the high back will just make it look what it is, comfy and aged just perfect. Ellie looks
just perfect peeking out to watch you. I love the brilliant red of the lilies. They are remarkable. Having some
clear cutting going on across the road from us. I know you realize what that means for wildlife and noise. Awful.
Just keep that lovely porch just the way it is. Homey.

    1. Thank you Lynn. Oh yes, I do understaand about the clear cutting. It changed everything here on our path, and we can now hear the trucks up on the highway more.

    1. Oh thank you Betsy. I'm sorry. Funny how things like that bring back sweet memories that make us sad. A front porch swing that squeeks reminds me of my grandparents.

  14. What a sweet neighbor to offer you those chairs. They look exactly like the one I purchased from Cracker Barrell. They are nice and sturdy. Gorgeous shot of your pond with the reflection. Very pretty.

  15. Hello Henny, I have missed your posts, been away! Love the screen door and Ellie is growing. Such a nice farm you have.

I saw the bunny post where you let the bunnies go! How hard that must have been with your big big love for them.. it takes a lot of love and strength to let go. Take care of yourself, okay? Hope your back breaking days are over. Love Terry

  21. I didn't know Lilies could be so tall! No wonder the wind blew one over. It looks fine in that vase.
The high back rocking chairs are a lovely addition to your porch but I doubt you'll spend much time sitting and rocking. :)

  22. Oh, your log cabin brings back memories of the one I lived in on an island. Ours was from a kit, it was actually two tiny cabins that had a "dog run" between them as they were about five feet apart. I love what you've done with your porch. And those two rocking chairs, those are keepers! On their way to the dump, no! I like the paint job on the formerly blue one. I think the bits of blue here and there look good!

  24. Having rocking chairs on your porch sounds heavenly - nobody has rocking chairs here, which is a great pity. I loved sitting in my daughter's one on her porch when I visit her in Arizona.

  27. Ellie is so cute and your lilies are just beautiful. I don’t think I even knew there were red ones like yours. I love your porches with the old rocking chairs.

  28. There is just something about porches that draws us, isn't there? I love porches... don't have one here, but daughter has one that goes entirely around their log cabin house in the hill country. We could extend our little entry in the front and have a covered porch, but it's just not a priority these days... maybe eventually. Yours looks very homey and comfortable. Love your pics.
