Flowers, Frost, and Dogs in the Kitchen

Dear friends,

Can you believe the cold windy weather that traveled across the United States these last few days! Thank goodness, it left North Carolina today!

My pictures were taken before the cold weather arrived...

So, where did the butterflies go? There were so many...

The white Azaleas have been especially beautiful this spring.

It was a cold blustry 32 degrees this morning, with a big frost, so I am a little afraid to look outside.

and wouldn't you know, the little yard here in the woods was beginning to look half way pretty.

The yellow water Iris around miss duck were opening...

I do believe all the Azaleas have been the prettiest ever this spring.

I started this post early this morning, now here it is close to bedtime. Made the mistake of starting up the mower today and couldn't stop. But anyhow, the flowers and trees look okay, so far. Don't know how long it takes for tender plants to show cold damage.

Maybe this will be the last of the winter weather. Let's hope so! I need to plant a little something in the garden.

Oh, there is a surprise hidden amongst the showballs. Do you see it?

It is the tiniest little bird house ever! Built for a hummingbird. This was a gift to Poppy from Andee. Would a hummingbird really build in a cute little wooden house?

and before I go...

Here's me trying to clean up the kitchen after supper. Can just imagine how crowded we'll be when Ellie is full grown. :)

I think she may be my girl. She sure is a sweetie pie...and so is Eli.

Well now it is bedtime and I hear foot steps. Better end this and round up the dogs and cats. Sure appreciate your visiting.

Love,
Henny

  1. Daffodils and forsythias are gone here, dogwoods and red-buds are fading, azaleas are just now coming on.

  3. Ellie is just adorable and of course Eli is too! What does Ellie think of Eli's teddy bear or does she have one of her own? Do the dogs sleep with you and Poppy? If they do you are going to need a bigger bed! ; )

  6. Your home and garden is such a magical place full of beautiful wonders. The flowers are all so beautiful and I sure hope they survived the frost. The little birdhouse is very sweet and I think it would make a lovely home for a tiny hummingbird.
Eli and Ellie. They make me smile just to look at them. I think you're going to need to enlarge your kitchen as Eli continues to grow. I think you're going to have a cuddler.
Thank you for visiting with all of us today and allowing us a glimpse into your paradise.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  7. Love all your beautiful blooms. Spring is such a magical time. I have 2 azaleas that I covered before the snow and freeze hit our area. When I later uncovered them, I discovered that almost both bushes were in full bloom. So pretty. Hopefully, yours will be fine. Blessings to you!

  8. What a riot of color you have now. Thank you for sharing the pictures. I know this cold is just awful after
having a week of hot here 10 days before. I got 4 inches of snow and a killing freeze out of this. Hoping after
a few more nights of mid 30's, it'll come to an end. It appears Eli is getting along quite well with Ellie and
his grief over Weetie is going to disappear soon. Have a wonderful Spring weekend. Lynn and Precious

  9. ooh those pooches are darling, the pup sleeping on her back made me smile. Azaleas are so lovely and yours are so vibrant and pretty. We had a hefty snowfall broke tree limbs, wet and heavy. I hope it moves on, and that was the last of it. They are callig for 80 next week, up and down and so Spring has arrived.

  12. Your blooming shrubs are so lovely. Is that a Snowball bush in the first picture? It is beautiful.
I'm so glad you included the picture of you in your kitchen. It's the first time ( that I recall) that you showed us your kitchen and even you in it!! The dogs are so sweet; Eli can pretty well rest his chin on the counter.

  19. My sincere condolences........I didn't know. I just saw where y'all lost sweet little Weetie. Oh how sad I am for you, it hurts so badly to lose one, they are truly our family members and bring such love to our lives. I am so so so sorry for your loss. I always enjoyed seeing her on the blog. May your memories of her be stronger, happier, and sweeter than the sad feelings of loss, as time goes by.
