The weather and other things

Never in my life do I remember having cool temperatures, low humidity, and  a breeze, the last part of July! Not here! Not in North Carolina! But it's happening!

Maybe this unusual weather will stay through the end of the year. You know it started back last winter when we had spring in February. So could we have fall in August? Maybe! I mean, it was in the high 50's this morning and that is pretty cool, any way you look at it.

The teeny tiny sewing room is looking like a ghost town lately. I've simply got to get myself in gear and back to making aprons...and bonnets! Why, I've probably forgotten how to make a bonnet.

and, a new doll...my new doll!

it's Shirley Temple! Andee and Lynn were out together shopping and found her in a thrift store. Andee brought her home and kept her for me.

of course, I could not wait to take off her coat and see her cute little outfit.

She has a sweet face.

I never did get up to the garden today. The yard really needed some work after this long hot dry spell, so, I've raked up pine straw and put it around the azaleas, mowed, cleaned out hen's nests and added new straw, and raked the path to the shed. It almost felt like a spring day.

We have about an hour before bedtime so maybe I will sew a little.

Hope to be back soon...

the goats send their love...

Love,
Henny

  1. I still think it's rather neat that Temple was a U.S. Ambassador under two presidents when she grew up

  2. What a great find, your Shirley Temple doll looks to be in perfect condition. You had a very busy day, I am amazed that you would even think of sewing. I dyed up a load of yarn last night and have pulled the fabric for a childs quilt, sewing will commence tomorrow. The goats are just too cute for words.

  3. You did enough work with the cleaning up around the yard, mowing and taking care of the animals so it is okay that you didn't make it up to the garden. :)

The doll is so sweet! I love it that Lynn and Andee were out shopping together and came across it. How precious that they thought of you and that Andee kept it for you. :)

    Have a good day today.

  5. Cool here today, we set an over night low record last night, 69º and we've had more days in the 80's than the 90's . Your doll is adorable.

  7. We have not had the usual hot/humid weather spells here, either. Cool... Nearly downright cold at night, at times. Rain, rain, rain. But we are now in a few days of hot weather. Very soon, the 70's will be back though.

take it easy, Dear One. No pressure. 'Relax' while you can. :-)

that is a lovely, lovely doll!!!!! Beautiful and well preserved. Bet it was in a collection, and not played with, by a child.

    Gentle hugs,
    Luna Crone

  9. It's unseasonably cool in southern Missouri, too. We had no winter at all this past year. We still had trees with autumn leaves in December! Very odd.

I do want my real seasons back, but I'll keep my cooler temps right now, thank you very much. ~smile~

    Blessings from Harvest Lane Cottage,

    1. Thank you Laura. You have a pretty name, Laura Lane. August in NC is usually almost unbearable so I am appreciating this cooler weather. Thank you for visiting and leaving a comment.

  11. Oh I love he baby doll! What a wonderful present. I want a baby doll so bad. I have not been to the thrift store in a while. Right now I want a big solid stock pot. I will find me one before canning season next year. I always borrowed grandma Myrties but one of her daughters got it. Oh well. Love you bunches and like you I am loving this cool weather!

  13. I sure would like some of your cool temperatures. I feel so useless when the thermometer creeps up past 90F.
Your Shirley Temple doll is so pretty.I love her outfits too.How sweet of your girls to get her for you!

  14. Man, 50! Lucky you. We could use some cool weather. You always seem so productive by getting out there and getting it done. The goats kinda look like they're afraid you might come sweep them up too.

  15. That doll really looks like Shirley Temple! I think we have got your hot weather. It is smokey here, from wildfires that are burning all over the province. The wind is blowing the wrong way. On the plus side it kept the temperature down a few degrees from the predicted high today.

    1. Hey Bonnie! Thank you. They are really sweet daughters. I looked up the doll on line and found one for $79.00 but it was still in the box.

  17. This weather is unusual for us here in NC, but I am enjoying it. So nice to get outside in the summertime instead of staying cooped up in the A/C.
So sweet of your girls to get the Shirley Temple doll for you. My mom always loved Shirley.
Your sewing room looks like a happy place to be.

  18. Yes, the recent break in our heat and humidity has been simply WONDERFUL! We better enjoy it while we can, right? Boy, they sure did a good job on little Shirley's face...she is a dead ringer for Shirley, herself! What a cute little doll. Enjoy the weather while you have a chance!

  19. Your new doll is adorable. I have photos of my older sister when she was little and Mom would curl her hair to look like Shirley. I pulled up beets yesterday and fixed them a couple different ways . . . you should see my hands! My fingernails look like I'm a mechanic, with old black grease embedded around them. I thought doing the dishes would take it out, but so far 3 soaping dish washings and they are still bad . . . any suggestions?

    1. Thank you Connie. Oh my goodness, I've done the same thing to my hands, except not with beets. My husband hates beets, so I have never fixed them. I buy myself a jar of pickled beets once in a while. I love them! I'll have to ask my sister how to get the stain off. She grows beets. :)

  21. I love your Shirley Temple doll. My mom used to put my hair in "Shirley Temple curls". We have enjoyed a couple days and nights of beautiful non-humid weather and it's been such a wonderful break, especially sleeping at night with the windows open. I just love fresh air.
