When I first started piling limbs on that big old stump inside the chicken lot, Poppy said, all you're doing is making a place for a snake to hide.
But the chickens love this spot! It's fun to watch them. They are like children playing on a jungle gym.
Chickens get bored. Why sometimes I look out and all of them will be sitting on top of the stump. Right now there are leaves on the new limbs, but they will soon fall off.
The fun part of having animals is fixing for them. The weather has been too hot and humid lately...
Do you like "before" and "after" pictures?
I was looking for another chicken picture and happened upon this one of the greenhouse...
oh my gosh, how clean! and how plain! Seems like it was early spring here and the trees were still bare.
then came the long legged tower, and a little red dust from the road had settled on the greenhouse.
then the fence panels, and Poppy asking if I would ever get things right up here. :)
Lots of stuff! Let's see. Here, we've added the little latticework panel to fill in the gap between the fence and the greenhouse, and a little frog climbing the wall.
Better go. Poppy will be here in about thirty minutes. The weather here today is gorgeous!! That awful humidity is gone, the sun is shining, there is a breeze. I have mowed, pulled weeds, raked pine straw, and dug up more Iris.
Thank you for visiting.
Love,
Henny
What a cozy greenhouse! If I were a plant, that's where I'd want to be.
ReplyDeleteDear Henny, after reading your blog a few weeks ago, I ordered the " Watkins Cook Book" on amazon, WOW what a lovely book!!! It even has a hand written message in it from 1936!! I love it! :) xx
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! Everything looks neat and tidy, Henny!
ReplyDeleteI find chickens fascinating. More chicken pictures please! And your little greenhouse with all it's additions is great.
ReplyDeleteThose chickens do look like kids on a recess break. Your tall tower is looking good with it's roof shingles and wreath in the back. Thanks for giving us an update.
ReplyDeleteI do like before/after photos, fun to watch the progress. I had no idea that chickens got bored.
ReplyDeleteI've never given it much thought but you're probably right about chickens getting bored. I wonder, do bunnies also get bored? Mine doesn't care for toilet paper rolls ( empty ones) or the compressed hay tunnels. She likes to chew on the inside of her wooden cage but NOT on nice twigs. Really all she wants is for me to pat her all day and I really must do other things which she finds hard to believe it seems!!
ReplyDeletelove your before & after photos, it's nice to see the area being 'used' can't keep it spotless, people wouldn't believe you used it plus lived in looks better, i like the red greenhouse (lol) it's pretty
ReplyDeleteall the additions look awesome
thanx for sharing
Today was such a beautiful day here, too! I'm not sure I accomplished as much as you did, but I surely did enjoy the lower humidity. You must be pleased with the way your "playhouse" turned out. Before and after pictures are so fun.
ReplyDeleteChickens do get bored. I know some people make them swings and hang food from string and such. Your branches might draw worms, too. Before they look inviting to a snake. Hopefully your fence will keep snakes out.
ReplyDeleteYou all be safe and God bless.
I like the chicken jungle gym you made them. Where did you get your greenhouse? I want one so bad. Hope you and Poppy are doing well. Love you both!
ReplyDeleteOur hens love to explore and 'play', they would love your gym though I am not sure how they would react to a snake! Eeek! The area around your long-legged tower is enchanting.
ReplyDeleteI haven't been enjoying the weather lately. The sun is miserably hot here
ReplyDeleteYou have made an adventure area for the chickens! Hope the snakes stay away :)
ReplyDeleteOh yes, I do enjoy before and after pictures. You have added lots of things to make it look cozy and fun.
ReplyDeleteLooks like the chickens are really enjoying their play house.
Did I miss the release of the little wild bunny? Your greenhouse looks so lovely and inviting now with all the neat things around it. I think you should have a comfortable chair there just to sit and think!
ReplyDeleteNo Cynthia, I tried to release the bunny this morning and he would not hop out the door. He obviously likes his little home, and I love him. Guess it won't hurt to wait another day or two. I do need a chair at the greenhouse. Lots of times I need to sit and think! :)
DeleteYour home is completely charming, Henny! I'm sure it's good for the chickens to have somewhere to hide, and for shade!
ReplyDeleteHooray for play places. and for nice weather!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThat greenhouse did look kind of naked before, didn't it. I love the after shot. I would love to have chickens to watch! And they are so photogenic!
ReplyDeleteI like how you have so much fun "playing" in your yard. You get a lot of work done too!
ReplyDeleteWe have still had only .02 in of rain since June 17th. Tomorrow it will start heating up again.
A Gardener's rearranging is never done! Great cozy place you have. Nancy
ReplyDeleteI love these pictures....that is such a pretty little area now and you've decorated it up so cute!
ReplyDeleteHi Henny, love what you did for the chickens! It is a fun part about owning animals. And I think they appreciate it.
ReplyDeleteYour playhouse looks wonderful. I would love to sit there and have a cup of tea....and possibly a cookie or two!
Take care.
Robin
Oh you are much too busy for me today- now I need a nap. LOL! Are your chairs wood or plastic and where did you get them? They are exactly what I want. Also, are you linen dolls dressable? I am into prim and trying to find a good pattern for prim dolls made out of tea stained linen, and dressable for seasons, as I want to use them in dough bowls. Do you have a good pattern?
ReplyDeleteWhat a good idea for the hens. I'll work on that, although their penned in area looks much smaller than yours. Still...
ReplyDeleteI like making things more fun for the chickens too! I really enjoy your posts, and am so happy we have met in "blogland"... it is wonderful to see our animals happy, isn't it! I would be worried about a snake though... lol!
ReplyDeleteDear Henny, you are the modern-day Tasha Tudor, your love of animals and earth, is so obvious....
ReplyDeleteYour sweet bunnies make me smile, they are tended with such care.
Love your before and after pictures, your greenhouse is precious.
Hugs,
~Jo
