Poppy and the swing

Dear friends, you may remember the post I did a while back about the swing...oh, how I wanted a swing. The rope kind. Hanging from a high limb. In fact, I had chosen the perfect limb. Then there was a post with a picture of the rope that we ordered. On and on I went about this swing. Poppy came home one evening with a brand new board to build the seat. The swing was finished. You may also remember my post telling you how I fell out of my new swing, landing flat on my back, and how I lay there thinking I was all broken up, but as it turned out I was fine.

This is me last fall, trying out the new swing...

Well a few weeks ago I sat down in the swing, gave myself a little shove off with my feet and as the swing swung forward, something told me to hold tight, seems I felt the tiniest slip of some kind. No sooner had the thought entered my mind than the rope on the right side untied itself from that high tree limb, dropping me down on my right side and the tumbling rope hitting me right on top of the head. Has this swing been jinxed?

Once again, we brought out the tall ladder. It was no easy task getting the end of the rope over that high limb! Poppy's very words, It is tight this time.

So yesterday, after mowing and weed-eating...hot and tired, Poppy sits down in the swing. A hand on each rope, he backs up as far as the swing would go, lifts his feet and sails forward. As the words, "you might want to hold on tight" were coming out of my mouth, that same rope, same right side, came tumbling down. Poppy hit the ground and the rope hit him on the head. As I was saying, you might want to hold tight in case that rope comes loose again!

You know it's hard not to laugh. No one was watching when I fell twice. I marched straight down to the shed and hauled that tall ladder back. Poppy says the knot is right this time, for sure. It won't come loose again. Would anyone like to give it a try?

The roses are beginning to bloom...

Thanks for visiting. Sorry about all the pictures. It's just so good to see color again! :)

Love,

  1. We have a 'swing tree' but the rope doesn't have a seat.I know my name is Jane, but to swing on the rope like Tarzan is a bit much for me!

  2. I am sorry but I had to laugh when you described Poppy falling out of the swing. Don't tell him but the way you described it you have to say it was kind of funny. I love all of the color that you have in your yard. Love your hanging basket!
    Love you very much!

    1. I had to laugh too. It was all I could do to say "are you okay". I'm sure it would have been a sight to have seen me falling out those two times.

    1. That's true. But at my age it's a little scary, but still funny. :)

  4. You have my dream! I've been asking for a swing for years, but even though we have an acre and a half of land, 50% of it woods, there's just no tree with the right limbs in the right spot.

    1. Same here. There was never a tree limb big enough, or like you said, in the right spot. We have been here 24 years so that limb had time to grow just right.

  5. I would love a rope swing. I have a tire swing and a porch swing. There is just something about a swing. I used to think will I went high enough I could touch the clouds.

    1. I agree. There is just something about a swing. I have never had a tire swing, but always thought it would be fun.

  7. i do love that swing----falling out and all. So good neither of you got hurt in the tumbles. Having it on a high limb is so nice since you get such a long swing path out of it. I've wanted one somewhere here but whenever I find a likely branch my husband always says that it is either too high up, not big enough around or not horizontal enough. Excuses maybe?????

    1. Oh my, I heard that too. In fact, when I showed him the limb I had found, he said "Mel, that limb is not big enough". Then I went looking for a rope. I'm not getting any younger. :) I hope neither of us really get hurt because of that swing. I will never hear the end of it!

  8. Your swing story made me laugh, but I'm glad that no one was hurt. I think I'd be checking that knot with binoculars before I sat on the swing again:)

    1. Why didn't I think of that. I'm taking the binoculars next time I go out. I have laughed about the two of us falling! I probably need to stay away from that swing.

  10. Poppy might need to learn some Boy Scout Knots! I am glad no one broke anything. I would love to have a swing in the yard...they make those chairs that swing...that might be an idea!! Your roses are lovely so bright and cheerful:)
