My Easter Bunny

Dear friends,

Thank you for the comments on my last post. I dearly loved every one of them and meant to come back and reply. Surely you must know, you are my best friends. Thank you!

HAPPY EASTER!

Have you seen my adorable EASTER BUNNY...
Remember "Penny" and "Bun Bun"s son, "Chief, Son of Bun"? Don't let that bashful look fool you.

Every day around 4:00, the bunnies (all six of them, yep, six rabbits!) know it's feeding time. Besides pellets, they get a handful of kale, apple slices, and carrot pieces. When I walk into Chief's pen, he jumps to grab what's in my hand...recently his little teeth hit my finger and brought blood. Scared us both but it was an accident. He is very sweet and gentle.

Lately, I've been working on the bunny lot. The 10' x 10' lot is divided into four sections like this...
This is Penny. What do you think of her new house? It's made from the box my new mower was shipped in. Penny says it is nice and roomy and has a wood floor. The 10 x 10 lot has a top, so the cardboard will stay dry.

Anyhow, my reason for changing things around again was to give the two new white bunnies a condo of their own...

Oops, there's one missing. She must be under the house. See how these two have been digging, throwing dirt everywhere? Wish you could have seen these two bunnies when I put them in this pen. First time either rabbit had ever touched the ground. These were meat rabbits and were born and raised in a small cage. Very small! It makes me happy to watch them.

Bun Bun and Fiona share a condo. Sorry, I didn't get a good picture of them.

The playhouse/greenhouse again...
A long black snake came visiting. He saw me and crawled under the boards with the potted plants on the far right.

and that's where our friend the frog lives. Poppy came to our rescue but the snake had disappeared. I will be watching for him! :(

This pink Azalea  in front of Poppy's shop has been absolutely beautiful...
so many blooms the limbs are sagging and ...
the sun was so bright I had to make a shadow for the color to show up.

Guess I had better get busy. Here it is bedtime again. Maybe I will dye a few Easter eggs. Just two or three. That would be fun. There will be no big dinner tomorrow, and no company.

Love,
Henny

and Happy Easter!

    1. Happy Easter to you Diane. It's always good to hear from you. You look pretty in your teeny tiny profile picture. I'm not crazy about snakes but most of what we see are black snakes. I have a fear of stepping on a copperhead. We do have those too.

  5. I love the name, "Chief, Son of Bun." He is gorgeous and should be an Easter Bunny. Spring is really putting on a show there at Henny Penny Lane. It seems to be a good year for Azalea. It was 90 degrees just a few days ago, but this evening we have a fire in the wood-burning stove.

    1. Thank you! The bunny "Chief" was born with such unusual markings. Looks like he is wearing an Indian Headdress and his ears look like feathers. Several months ago I asked for suggestions for a name...Bonnie who blogs at "It Seems Like Only Yesterday" suggested "Chief, Son of Bun". It made me laugh, so I picked it.

  7. Your bunnies are beautiful and lucky to have you. We won't have guests for Easter dinner, either, of course. I bought a ham that we've been eating sandwiches off of. I'll bake that with some glaze mix I have, make some baked beans and we'll eat cole slaw I made. Not much, but enough. I also have some broccoli grape salad that's still good. We love that stuff. So my dinner is almost all cooked already. We sure don't need a dessert. I left the house today for a few minutes to run over to my sister's house a mile and a half away. She made some cloth masks for my son and left them on her front porch. I ordered some hepa filter vacuum cleaner bags to make some masks, but they're out of stock for almost 3 weeks, just like everything else these days. At least we have plenty of toilet paper! Happy Easter out there in your beautiful neck of the woods.

    1. Thank you Peg. I've just made a little potato salad. We had a big chunk of baked ham in the freezer left from Christmas, so I will warm that and like you have some beans. That's plenty for the two of us. Broccoli grape salad sounds good. Wonder if there are recipes online for making it. My daughter is making masks too. She has made sixty some. I made Dan and myself one. They sure are hard to wear though. I can't keep my hands off the mask and that's not good. I've heard that vacuum filters are good to use. Lynn says you can't find anything any more...elastic, bands, vac bags. Yesterday I mailed her some fabric and a roll of thin elastic cord that I found in my old sewing supplies. Hope you and your family have a Happy Easter...and stay safe.

  9. Your bunnies are so sweet. I'm so glad you saved the two from being "meat" rabbits. You are a great bunny mama! :-). Your garden and playhouse area is beautiful. I would love to have a little place in the country to make my own. But snakes! Uh, no. You can keep them. I'm glad the frog got away.
We're having crock pot chicken because I couldn't get a grocery pickup in time for Easter. I've been trying for 8 days but do get to pick them up Monday. So, no ham, and chicken instead. I also made deviled eggs that Dennis requested. Then he ate half of them with dinner tonight! Oh well. He loves them and I won't tell him no.
    Happy Easter my friend!
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  10. Love the sweet bunnies! Do they ever escape out of their enclosure to see how green the grass is on the other side of the fence? Lol.💖

    1. Thank you Susan. No, the bunnies dig, bug have never gotten out. I buried the fence about 4" all around the pen. I had just raked the lot when these pictures were taken. Normally I keep plenty of hay out for them to nibble on. They love it. I do wonder sometimes if they dream of getting out. :)

  12. Good day! You are blessed to have the animals to look after during these bleak times, no doubt they make you laugh, or otherwise keep your mind busy enough to avoid worrying. I really hope so, anyway. The sunshine, the bunnies and the azaleas are very cheerful! Penny is so pretty and the story of Chief getting your finger-- and then being startled he got your finger, is funny. I don't know about snakes... You're probably accustomed to them, though I'm thinking back to a few years ago when you captured a snake in the tree with your camera. That was a big snake! I wish you and your family and anyone around you, whoever they may be, a blessed Easter Sunday!

    1. Thank you Pilar. You're right about the animals. They do make me laugh and they also keep me busy. We lost a duck and a hen yesterday. Now that makes me sad. The hen had been sick but the duck we found on the pier dead. She was pretty old so probably died from natural causes. I do wish the snakes would move on somewhere else. :) Hope you've had a happy Easter.

  20. I watched that special on PBS too, the one that Lynn watched about rabbits and hares.
I'm surprised that Penny doesn't chew up her cardboard house. I know that Cinnamon Bun chews everything, including her plywood walls if she can get her teeth at them. I've given her sticks to chew but she ignores them.
Happy Easter to you and Poppy. Enjoy that ham.

  21. Thank you Granny Marigold. Wish I had seen that show on rabbits. Oh, Penny will eventually get around to chewing up her new house. I made one for Chief too. He has chewed a big hole in the side. His was made from thinner cardboard. I'll take it out when it gets to looking bad. Hope you and your family have had a Happy Easter.

  23. How exciting to get to see your Easter Bunnies today! I admit to being especially partial to Chief Son of Bun and I'm glad to know he is doing well. It sounds like he has a real healthy appetite. I hope there are no more finger nips!

Everything looks just beautiful Henny. You and Poppy have your own little piece of heaven there for sure. I like the changes in the bunny condos. I'm sure they appreciate the extra attention you give them. Please take care Henny! Hugs! xx

  30. Happy Easter Henny. My, it was a quiet one but we still had a dinner. It sure wasn't the same without the kids, though. I love seeing your bunnies. They are the sweetest animals. So gentle and calm (most of the time) And how lucky are those two that came from dire circumstances. Oh, my heart breaks for any animal living in a cage without the loving hand of a human or companionship of some sort. It leaves you with such a heaviness on your soul. Thank you for being so kind-hearted. I see Poppy has a trailer like the retired-guy. Is it one of his most treasured possessions like it is here? lol I have to admit it sure helps us clean up on the property and has picked up many treasures for the house. Your potting area is the cutest spot. I was just thinking how nice it would be to sit there and have tea with you. :) I hope you are feeling better these days. I have thought of you often and hoped you were out of tthat terrible pain. Love to you, Poppy and all the critters; especially Smokey. btw...just delete the comment above this one. I got the same one so that zero is getting around. :-{

  33. For some reason as I was making our bed this morning I was thinking of your bunnies and the fact that we haven’t seen them for a while. I should have known you would be featuring them for Easter! I’m so glad the two meat rabbits will have a pampered life on Henny Penny Lane instead of ... well, the alternative! Won’t Penny chew up her new house?

  34. Your bunnies are so pretty and fluffy...and quite a condo they have for sure! We had a lot of of azaleas in our yard in NC and after we get our home built here, will most definitely have to plant some...yours are gorgeous! Enjoy the rest of the week!

  37. Ohhh, I wonder if you are going to have baby bunnies! My sister and I got two meat rabbits as kids. We had quite a few litters of babies. The mom dug down into the ground and had her babies there, just like she would in the wild. I wonder...... If she does, she will only visit the babies at night if I remember, and then one day you will see one or two out.

We don't have a single azalea on our property, I'm sorry to say, and it makes me feel downright NON-Southern :( We need to put some in. Your bunnies are just adorable! They have a nice life. I have 2 hens who also jump up and try to grab any nibbles I bring out to them. YOu'd think they were starving!
