A bunch of stuff

You know, I really did do a pitiful job of posting about the Vintage Market Days in Raleigh. Simply pitiful. Why, the only sweet part of the whole post was Andee and Santa. So next time, if I can't do a better job, I won't post at all. Whew! Glad that's off my chest!

So, I will bombard you today with a bunch of stuff...like a slew of Santas...

Don't know why I ever stopped making these little Santa dolls. They sell really well at craft fairs. Shelby asked me about them, So I buckled down and made ten of them. Five little couples, to take to the "Santa Christmas Bazaar" this coming Saturday.

and let me show you a really beautiful, really special gift that came in the mail to me from Texas...

from a very special blogging friend, Barbara. Barbara doesn't have a blog, as far as I know, but we met through my blog, and now we visit by email.

She said her Mother and her Grandmother both did the handwork on this little apron. I love the lace. It goes all around and it so dainty and beautiful.
Barbara said she is doing some cleaning out and thought I would appreciate this old apron...and she was exactly right. I love it! Thank you Barbara!

now, down the chicken path...

it's easy to see who rules. Do you think he could have found a higher perch to speak from?
Hard to tell if this is father or son. The one baby chick raised here this summer turned out to be a rooster, the spitting image of his dad. So far, they seem to be buddies. So far, no fighting.

So, while we are down this way...

the sun actually came out yesterday morning. Now, these scrubby oak trees are nowhere near as pretty as, oh my gosh, some of the trees I've seen on other blogs.  But seeing the sun  shining through, warmed my heart so beautifully!! I mean, we haven't seen the sun in over a week.

 I love the shadows too.

Winter came way too soon

and my last picture...
At the edge of dark Poppy comes in from hunting, and what a big welcome he gets. That tail moves so fast it's nothing but a blur, and not to worry, Little Weetie gets a belly rub too. Poppy calls her Fatty Watty.

Guess that's about it. I'll be in the sewing tonight, folding and packing for the craft bazaar.

Thank you for your comments on that last sorry post of mine.

Love,
Henny

  3. Loved this post. Those Santas are so cute. What is the base made of? They would be fun little Christmas gifts.
LOL-About Fatty Watty! I she a Samoyed? We had a Samoyed but had to give her to another family when we moved to Florida many years ago. The vet said she would not adapt to the FL heat very well. Broke my heart...but I wanted what was best for her. Love your rooster, too. xo Diana oh-ps---what a fabulous apron and wonderful gift!

    1. Thank you NanaDiana. Would you believe the Santas are clothespin dolls? Made from the old fashioned clothespins. I love making them. Fatty Watty (Weetie) is part Jack Russell and part Chihuahua. We've had her about nine years...since some family moved away and left her alone. She found us. I'll have to do a post about Weetie.

  6. Isn't it lovely when the sun shines on the yellow leaves? I love Fall and wish it would stick around longer. Your Santa dolls are cute and no doubt will sell out quickly. I went to a craft fair today but nothing even tempted me. I guess I have enough ( haha).

    1. Yes it is lovely. I desperately need sunshine to keep from feeling gloomy. You know I rarely buy anything at craft shows. Should be ashamed, I guess. :)

    1. Thank you Nancy. I wondered about that too...wearing such a pretty apron. It does have a stain or two but Like I told Barbara, that doesn't bother me one bit. I will cherish that apron. It was so sweet of her to give me something that special.

  11. I love the Santa couples! I bet you sell every one of them. The sun in the trees is just beautiful in your picture. In fact your home and land always looks so nice, just like heaven on earth. The picture of Poppy and Eli is so cute - I swear, Eli is just about bigger than Poppy! Take care and have a wonderful weekend Henny.

  15. That rooster is a handsome fellow! I love his stance but I wouldn't want to mess with him. The sun shining through the trees is a lovely sight but I should be more childlike and allow myself to stand still and really look, for the pleasure and the calm. Fall was very short this year. The snow has begun to melt because of the rain, but last week was January weather: freezing and truly white. Down came all the autumnal decorations, of course! Your sweet Santa couples remind me of my little ceramic Christmas Carolers, that I've yet to pull out...But how did you make them so quickly? That apron is ridiculously well made-- the ladies must have worn it for weddings or birthdays, only. It's the immaculate lace edging that makes it so precious. Oh my gosh, Eli is such a cuddlebug! Is he like that with you, too? Wish I could just drop by and visit your booth at the bazaar! All the best and many blessings!

    1. Thank you Pilar. Wish you could drop by for a visit. Yes, Eli is like that with me too. When I come home from the grocery store, Poppy opens the front door and Eli jumps from the front step down to the patio. His big feet send the mats flying. I have to brace myself when he jumps up to greet me. He is a sweetie pie. The Santas are made from clothespins. I kinda do an assembly line...stuff the heads, make 20 little pant or bloomer legs, 20 little arms to sew on, etc., then sit in the sewing room at night and put them together. It's fun. And, the best to you Pilar.

  16. Lots of great pictures here. Gosh I love the last one so much. I love a guy that's not afraid to show he loves his dog. Terry is that way with his little Min Pin. Who knew after 40+ years of big dogs that a little 20 pounder would be so special to him. I love those little Santa dolls. The Mrs. Santas are perfectly dressed in those cute little aprons too. When I did craft shows my biggest sellers back then were Mr. and Mrs. Santas I made from stuffed nylons. I also painted Santas on clothes pins. Mothers never minded spending just a little when their kids wanted one. Hope your sale goes well.
    Happy Thanksgiving
    xx, Carol

Your Santas sound really cute. I would love to see a picture of them. Have you ever shown them on your blog? All Santas are just cute, aren't they?

  18. I loved your last post. :-) . Those Santa couples are so sweet and I'm sure they will sell very, very quickly. I think you're trees are just lovely. It's been weeks since ours lost their leaves up here in the frigid tundra of Washington. The sun shining through the leaves makes a beautiful photo.
That apron was such a generous gift. How nice of her to share it with you when it is so full of the love and talent of her grandmother. That last photo warms my heart. The love between both of them is very evident.
Good luck at the bazaar tomorrow.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  19. The apron is amazingly beautiful! It's much too pretty to use in the kitchen. I can't imagine giving it away, especially since it was made by family. But, it was nice of her to send it to someone who will love and take care of it.

  20. Even if you do not take any pictures of the Santa Weekend craft show, I do hope you have a successful day. Your
mini Santas ought to fly off the shelf.
Always a delight to see hand work done by our parents and grandparents era. thank you for showing it.
And chickens and dogs, there is a fine looking bunch, oh, not to forget Poppy!
