One of the things that always reminds me of mama...
She adored dainty little pitchers and violets. She loved picking violets. We used to go see Aunt Berlie in early spring when the grass was green and the yard was covered in violets.
Mama would say, "let's ride up and see Berlie. I bet the violets and wild lilies are in bloom". Aunt Berlie was a dainty little lady too. I loved walking with them and picking flowers. Both of them carried a tissue, and laughed continuously !
And once again, I can't let Mother's Day pass without posting my favorite old photo...
of my sweet mother, holding me with my sister Shelby standing beside her.
Mama was gentle and kind, and very patient.
Oh my...
HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!!
Poppy said this morning, you are not my Mother, but I'll take you to Cracker Barrel for breakfast for Mother's Day. I accepted. We were about ready to go when my daughter Andee called. Check your email before you leave...so, I did and there was a gift certificate for Cracker Barrel. How was that for perfect timing!
I had pecan pancakes with bacon and lots of maple syrup, then came home feeling too full! It was fun!
Love,
Henny
Happy Mother's Day too, to my sweet Daughters Lynn and Andee!
Pecan pancakes? Sign me up!
ReplyDeleteAnd you're right, somehow as time passes we miss some people that much more.
What lovely memories of your mother. Somehow I think she is with you today. I still miss my mother so much too and she's been gone 30 years. How nice that you went to Cracker Barrel for breakfast! Those pancakes sure sound good! We are going to our Cracker Barrel tonight. Happy Mother's Day Henny!
ReplyDeleteThank you Bonnie. Hope you had a nice day Sunday, and enjoyed eating at Cracker Barrel.
DeleteI love that picture of you mom, you, and Shelby. You and Lynn both look so much like your mom!
ReplyDeleteNice that you got to go out for breakfast to celebrate. You deserve it. Have a great rest of the day!
I'm not Mac's Mom, but he always makes sure that Miss Kitty gets me something
ReplyDeleteHappy Mother's Day. So glad you enjoyed your breakfast. I loved reading about your Mother and seeing the sweet photos. God bless you. xoxo
ReplyDeleteSuch a lovely photo of you and your sister and your dear mother. I too wish I could sit once again with my darling mum and have a cup of tea and wonderful conversation. I don't suppose there is never a time that we don't miss them. Love that blue vase with the sweet flowers Your Mother's Day breakfast sounds delightful....enjoy the rest of your special day.
ReplyDeleteHappy mothers' day
ReplyDeleteI love that old photo of you with your mom. That is so special. I love Cracker Barrel but our closest one is about 90 miles away (darn it). Sweet violets are my favorite small spring flower, too. xo Diana
ReplyDeleteLovely flowers. Glad you had such a nice day, Henny. God bless.
ReplyDeleteYour mama sounds like a sweet person and a wonderful mother. You were blessed to have her.
ReplyDeleteThose violets are just beautiful and that cup is the perfect container. My mom has been gone 18 long years and I believe that I think of her more and more as time goes by instead of less. My favorite breakfast to eat out is pecan pancakes, too! And I love Cracker Barrel. The pecan pancakes for breakfast and chicken and dumplings any other time. YUM! I love to browse through their stores, too. They have such unusual things and all the old time snacks. I seldom buy anything, but still love to look. Hope you have a good week to get out in your yard. It's going to be hot here. We're already tying and setting new records for high temperatures and it's only May.
ReplyDeleteOh Peg, and you probably can't believe it has been 18 years already. My cousin Pat, that I talk about in my posts, loves Cracker Barrel's chicken and dumplings. I've had them once, and they were good. We just never go there for dinner. In fact, Shelby, Pat, and I were together the day we stopped at Cracker Barrel for lunch. And the weather! It has been in the 90's here, and humid, with rain and thunderstorms for the next six daysCrazy!.
DeleteMy mother loved a vase of wild flowers in the house, she grew many flowers but left them in the garden. My grandmother loved lily of the Valley and wore the perfume every day. Like you I miss them more as the years roll by.
ReplyDeleteI always associate violets with May. And every May we would walk all the way to the back of our property, through the Timothy field, across the old half-buried abandoned interurban tracks, and into the woods where we picked fat violets with the longest stems, enough for us and for a bouquet for my grandma. And as we walked, Mama would tell stories of taking the Interurban (an electric streetcar) all the way to Chicago to shop for something special. Your violet bouquet sure brought back some sweet memories!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a wonderful Mother's Day and you are blessed to have such a mother and two daughters of your own.
ReplyDeleteI want to go visit Aunt Ber.ie, too, and pick some wild violets and lilies in bloom. What a beautiful memory! Treasure those baby photos, I wish I had some of my mom as a baby. They're so wonderful.
ReplyDeleteHappy Mother's Day!
I sure wish we could still go visit Aunt Berlie. You could go with us! Thank you Pilar.

ReplyDeleteWhat a fun gift from your daughter.
