A little outside, a little inside

Sure wish I had kept a journal beginning the first day of January 2018.

If nothing else, there would have been plenty of entries about our weather.

Remember the pretty spring-like weather in January and February; then winter returned in March and April with cold frosty mornings and even some snow; well now, here in the merry month of May, we're having hot, sticky, stormy July and August weather. Why, at this rate I probably need to go ahead and prop the yard rake against a tree.

meanwhile...back at the playhouse

Wanted to show you the little iron table and chairs we bought off Craigslist. Last Saturday, before the rain set in, we put the slats back on the chairs and thenPoppy painted them for me.

The two chairs are sturdy and very heavy. We got both for $20.00. The iron table, posted by someone else, was also $20.00. Poppy sat down in one of the chairs and asked if I would bring him a cup of tea.

Want to show you a simple change I made in the house.

The windows in our living are exactly the same as the windows in our bedroom; same number of windows, size, curtain rods and all.

So I switched everything...

How strange that I had these red valances, that look so much like the fabric on the chair in the living room, hanging in the bedroom

and had the gold curtains that match the bedspread in our bedroom, hanging in the living room. Duh!

Guess that's about it for now. The teeny tiny garden is growing, such as it is, and I will show you pictures soon. I have not yet built a little wattle fence for the bean vines. Neither have I planted as much as last year. Could I be slowing down in my old age? :)

I sure appreciate your friendship.

Love,
Henny

  1. I'm excited to tell you that my husband asked me today what kind of potting shed I wanted! I immediately thought of you. He had been searching online and had a nice selection for me to chose from. I'll be sure and let you know when he has it made. :) I love your new table and chairs for up at the play house...and wow...what a difference changing out the curtains in the living room/bedroom made in both rooms! SO pretty in both rooms.

    1. Oh Dianna! I am so excited for you! There are so many pretty potting sheds out there. Can't wait to see yours. I still want to add an old sink to my little potting area. You know, Poppy keeps asking if I will ever get things the way I want them, and leave it alone. Probably not! It's fun!

  2. The red you added to the living room really perks it up and it looks great with the dark wood and animals! Love your new look inside and out!

  3. Your playhouse looks great and it looks like you've been busy with so many pretty plants! I love the table and chairs - you and Poppy should have tea there! The curtain switch up inside looks good almost like it was meant to be. I hope you and Poppy have a wonderful weekend!

  4. I love the table and chairs. You can carry a plate of food out there and have a wonderful view during your meal in good weather. That idea of swapping the window treatments was brilliant! The rooms look great with their 'new' curtains. The color matches are perfect.

    1. Hey Peg. I hope the weather settles down so we can enjoy being outside, and use the little table. We have had a full week of rain. Today we have a little sun but the humidity is awful.

  5. Chairs look good, would also be easy to spray paint them if the finish ever gets rusty/dull.

  6. You've been busy! I like the changes you made inside and out. Isn't it fun to change things around and give a coat of paint. It makes such a difference. As to the crazy weather..... Hot, sticky and stormy sounds pretty unpleasant.

  11. Weather is very freaky this year. It seems to be of extremes that are usually backwards.

  12. The weather is like that here, too. Hard to know what to plant with all the heat and humidity. The table and chairs look very inviting in the shade. :)
Sometimes I like things to match, sometimes I like them to be complimentary. Your change looks very nice, Henny.
    God bless. :)

  13. Looks like a good idea to switch the window treatments around, both look great.
Our weather is always very unpredictable. We have having sun, rain, and temperatures in the 60's lately.
Chairs and table look great and what a bargain.

Great job on the curtain swapping.

  16. Lots of sweet changes around your place. First I love that little sitting area in your garden. What a nice place to take a break while gardening and feeding your animals. I love how you changed the curtains, too. Those new valances look so charming in your living room . . . they give it a french country feel and the lighter ones in the bedroom make it look so airy and fresh. Great job!
    Have a lovely weekend.
    Connie :)

  19. A nice tall glass of iced tea would be just the thing for this hot day. I can imagine how much you and Poppy will enjoy your outdoor furniture this summer. I love the changes you made inside...so pretty!

  20. The patio set is a great find if the chairs are as sturdy as you say they are. I don't like rickety chairs especially if they are iron. Your cabin looks so cozy!

    1. Thank you Pilar. I hate rickety chairs too, but these are unbelievably heavy and sturdy.

Everything looks just great Henny. Love how your yard is shaping up so pretty and with your new table and chairs set. Nice switcheroo on the curtains too! Love your blog!!! Seems like there's crazy weather everywhere! .... Today it was sunny and 72 degrees and an hour later it was cloudy and 45. Hard to figure out. Hope you don't get any severe storms from your hot weather!

    1. Thank you Diane. We've actually had a little sun today, which will probably cause a thunderstorm later. :)

  22. Henny slowing down???? I simply can't imagine that!

As to the curtain change, isn't it amazing how something can be staring us right straight in the face and it just doesn't register? At least that's been my experience.

  23. So pretty We have had 6 inches a rain in the past few days. Our garden is standing in water. We had some beautiful tomatoes plants and some are wilted from having to much rain. Hope everyone is doing good. Love you bunches.

  24. The chairs and table are a nice addition to your playhouse. How clever to swap curtains. A whole new look without spending a penny.

  25. Good morning, Henny! I love your curtain swaparoo :) Isn't it strange how household changes like that, that seem obvious afterward, were staring us in the face for years? I've done that too. Looks very pretty. And your metal furniture! So nice! The table is very pretty. We have had crazy weather. I'm somewhat apprehensive about what July will bring. Or will we have horrific hurricanes this year? Oh, I hope not!

  26. Yes, we have certainly had a strange year so far, weather wise! The table and chairs was really a great find! Your home is just so cozy and I also like what you've done with the curtains. Isn't it fun when you "shop the house" to make a few changes? Have a great week!

  27. Good day Henny! I had to laugh, you're like me - I have always mixed up curtains and bedspreads and such as long as I can remember. But, hey, in the end you got it the way you want it! Henny, we have had more than 6 inches of rain the last few days and all the stuff I planted is either rotted or torn up from the critters and rain. Hang in there, maybe we will get a growing season. Love, Terry

  28. What a great buy on the table and chairs!! Your home and gardens are so cozy and welcoming, Henny!

  29. Hi Henny - yes our weather pattern has been strange as well. We went (or so it seems) straight from winter to summer. Plenty of rain has made everything blossom...beautiful fruit trees as well as berry bushes. Looks like there should be a great crop this year! I love the pictures of your home. It looks so warm and inviting - I certainly can see curling up there with a good book. Take care and thanks too for visiting me. Hugs!

  30. I enjoyed seeing your curtain switch! Your home is so cozy looking! :)

  31. I just love your home. Home Sweet Home is what I see and feel.
Our weather has been NUTS!! We have 90 degrees today for the rest of the week. Never in the month of May this hot so fast. It is taking a toll on all the spring blooms, the tulips and lilacs are weeping from the heat.

  32. Maybe your not slowing down but just becoming wiser! I like the change of curtains! You must have hung them originally the other way for a reason. That is a nice little table and chair set for a cup of tea!! Nancy
