News from the teeny tiny sewing room...

A ray of sunshine would be nice, but we might as well forget that, for today anyway. In fact, we could possibly get a little  snow. Imagine that! How sad for the tender young flower shoots and buds that have come out. Why even the Peonies are about a foot tall...and we still have at least three more nights of freezing weather before a little warm up.

I've been piddling around in the sewing room at night...working on three more dolls, and cutting out a few aprons.

A lady from up the road called and asked if I had any dolls made. A friend of her's saw the one she bought at the Christmas Bazaar and liked it. Anyhow, she came and bought three more.

Also have finished, finally, that blue calico cross-back apron. It only needed the straps sewn in the back, and it had been like this for weeks.

So, it can now go in the little Henny shop.

I had looked at this pattern several times in Walmart thinking it was cute, but had never picked it up and looked at the back view until last week...

To my surprise, it's a cross-back apron! I bought it!

So, I've cut out one from the black and white cherry fabric. Have also cut out a cross-back apron (my pattern) from the chicken fabric.

While I'm on a roll, might as well show you this bright green one!

finished plain, without the ruffle. Got to thinking, some folks might not like a ruffle on an apron.

Shelby and Jimmy (my sister and brother-in-law)
plan to stop selling at the farmer's market this spring. Shelby and I want to get back into craft bazaars. There are some good ones around Durham. We used to really enjoy doing those together. One reason for my spending more time in the sewing room lately!

and this big boy! Why, my sells might increase if there wasn't always a kitty cat sitting at the sewing machine. I've noticed on places like ebay, where folks note on what they are selling, "from a smoke free, pet free home". Well we have a smoke free home but certainly not a pet free home!

Wow! I started this post to talk about this cold winter-like weather and the poor pitiful tender plants and flowers, and look how it's turned out.

And, will this cold rain ever stop? We've got red muddy water running in streams down the side road and into the pond! and cold winter weather has been back for weeks now! That's okay though. We do have a lot to be thankful for. A lot!!

Thank you...if you're still here. :)

Love,
Henny

  1. Sorry about your weather. It's such a shame when plants begin to grow and then are frost-bitten. My one Butterfly bush had little leaves which are now all dried and dead. I have no idea if it will let out again. Same with some perennials that had started to grow and then got frozen.
It sounds like you're having fun in your sewing room, turning out pretty aprons! and lovely dollies!

  2. I would be scared to wear either of those aprons in the kitchen. They are too nice! Might get messed up. :)

It is sleeting and snowing here (central NC). How is it there?

    1. Thank you Sandi! The big snowflakes started falling right after I finished this post. We got about an inch. It is cold but sunny here this morning.

  3. I love those aprons. I love the backs on them. Mine all tie. Cute kitty. Yeah, I have pets too.

  4. I always enjoy your posts when you take us into your sewing room! I love the dolls and aprons. We are having sunshine and warmer weather now, but it is a bit windy which can be expected. I hope you'll not have too much damage from the freezing temps. I guess it's time to drag the sheets off the bed and cover things up. :~)

  5. Those aprons are fabulous. I love the crossed back. How lovely you have been lost in your sewing room. I cannot imagine a better way to spend the day. Hope the sun shines on you soon.

  6. Spring just can't make up it's mind can it? Here in Missouri we've been having winter one day and spring the next, back and forth. The poor birds and plants don't know what to do. I hope your weather warms up soon. It looks like Dumperoo is a sewing cat! Every cat I've ever had just loves it when I sew. They love the sewing machine even though they hate other appliances. I've wondered if the hum of the machine reminds them of a purr?

    1. Hey Bonnie. I think the weather has been crazy everywhere lately! It just may be the hum of the sewing machine that kitties love. Dumper likes the warmth from the lamp too. :)

  7. Always a thrill to sell some dolls eh? Shows people appreciate them if willing to pay for them. Love seeing your sewing room too. Good to finish something that's been waiting for a while!Cute aprons. My husband cooks so I don't need one all that often!!!

  8. I do like the apron without the ru8fles too, you do such nice work. Hope your weather straightens out, we still have snow but I bet you knew that!

  9. I love your beautiful aprons Henny, I so enjoy wearing mine !
Cold weather returns *sigh*, keeping my fingers crossed all the plants that have emerged will still hang in there.
    A pet-free home wouldn't be my choice :)

  11. I have that same chicken fabric, Henny! I made my sister a set of placemats. I hope your flowers make it through the next couple nights.

  12. I love your aprons!!! Do you ever make them with pockets?

I think you would do great at a craft fair.

Hope you get some nice weather soon. It has been very windy here today, more temps in the 50's at night for us down here in s.e. FL. It is something to enjoy while it lasts. Summer heat and humidity will be here all too soon.

    Happy upcoming spring ~ FlowerLady

    1. Hey Lorraine! Would you believe that both those aprons have two big pockets. I looked closely and you cannot see the pockets in the picture. That's funny. I always put pockets on the aprons I sew. :) Maybe I need to add trim or something.

  13. Hi Henny,
I like all your aprons. I think you will have a great time at the craft fair and do well!!
Do you have an Etsy shop?

  14. Very pretty aprons you've made, Henny! I love the bright colors. I have an apron cut out; it calls for a bias binding which I hate to use! It must be lots of fun to attend the craft fairs and sell your things. I'd like to sell something instead of filling the closet with things. lol

  15. Peonies are tough. They go through hell here with spring snows and frosts.

  16. Oh my, I know what you mean about more winter weather. I always think that if I can get through February that spring will miraculously appear. And then a warm, or at least a warmish, day will come along and I think "This it!" But no------more grey, cold, wet days appear. It's just hard to take!

Your plans for the craft bazars sounds like a good idea. It would give you some quality time with Shelby and a little extra spending money too-----a win-win.

    1. Hey Vic. Seems like it's this way every year now with the up and down weather. We have a little snow on the ground this morning, but with sunshine!!

  17. I love your aprons! I bet you would sell a lot of them at craft sales! Do you sell them anywhere else?
It's snowing here again, but the weather is supposed to improve and be in the low 50's this weekend!

  18. I love that blue apron. If you haven't sold it yet, I'd like to buy it. Do you still have my email address from my other order? If the apron's available, you can email me the cost. I put your information in my contacts last year when I bought the 2 Christmas aprons (which I love). We had over 2 inches of snow on Sunday with huge wet flakes, but it stayed a couple of degrees above freezing all day so it melted before bedtime in most places. It was beautiful while it lasted, though. I love the wet snow that clings to everything, as long as it's not heavy enough to break boughs and branches or to cause traffic danger. This one was perfect.

    1. Hey Peg! Thank you! Yes, I do have your email address and will be in touch, and have the blue apron too. Right after I finished the post, big snowflakes started falling and it was still snowing last night. Didn't amount to much though...about an inch. We have sunshine this morning!!!

  19. The aprons look fantastic. You did a great job. I love aprons so much that I've had to set a rule for myself that I can only buy one if I really really love it. Otherwise I'll end up with about 100. As it is, I have about 15 of them.

  20. I like the photo of you in your sewing room, and the kitty one too.
It's always fun to see what you have been sewing.
Not to rub it in, but we reached 70 degrees here in Seattle today! Everyone was basking in the sun and smiling. Of course tomorrow we will be back to 50 degree rain, but at least it's not 35 degree rain and slush.

  21. Here's a report from NE Texas that will make you smile...It's going down to 32 degrees tonight here. Your sweet aprons should really sell fast. I'm a fan of your ruffled ones myself.

  22. I enjoyed viewing the dolls you have started and all of your beautiful aprons. I love it all...and of course, the big boy makes each picture he is in very special. :-)

  23. Our weather has turned cold, again, as well. I'm ready for warmer temperatures! I love all of the aprons but I can't wait to see the ones you will make from your new pattern!

    Grace & Peace,
    Pam

  24. Beautiful aprons, Henny! Our weather is lousy, snowing and cold and windy! Where is spring? Even the animals are confused! Loved the different aprons, having a great day! Terry

  25. Thank you Terry. Not snowing here, but cold and windy. I think we will all feel better...and happier, when warm weather gets here, again! :)

  26. Love your sewing projects all so pretty . Love that chicken print there that would make a great apron for egg collecting with lots of pockets in it for them . Thats wonderful your getting back into the crafting and selling them at fairs and shows good for you . The weather here has been up and down to but the sun has been shining more for us now that spring is getting closer I am soo looking forward to Spring that is just around the corner hope she pushes old man winter right out the door for good . Thanks for sharing . Lovely photos , I especially like the first pic of you in your sewing room . Have a good week !

  27. Hi Henny! I hope the weather improves. Your aprons are so pretty! That'll be fun to sell at fairs and festivals!

  28. I hope your weather turns soon...it is sunny here, but barely 60 degrees...and all the lakes are at flood stage from the tons of rain we have gotten. Do you sell those little dolls anywhere (Etsy?) I am looking for seasonal little dolls for my dough bowl. Love your aprons too- very pretty.

    1. Thank you Terri! At the top of the page, right under the header is "Henny's Bonnet Shop", a page I set up to use as a little shop. It's not much of a shop, but at least a place to show what I have. I am working on more dolls. Thank you.

  29. I really like the blue calico material, so pretty.
Hope you get your warm weather soon, and hope we do too. Still more snow today for us.

  30. I think we get your weather, about an hour afterward. Goodness! The cold, the wind, the rain. I'm weary of it. Hopefully by Saturday, it will warm ... and the wind has to stop sometime, right?
I'm also considering stopping selling at the farmers' market (there are just hardly any customers!) and going across the river to a big flea market, with lots of people. Adam wants to sell stuff too, and we could do it together -- so much more fun. Anyway, your goods are delightful. And I ADORE that sweet little rocking chair sewing station - so cute!

  31. I'm envious of your productiveness in the sewing room! I've had months, more than four months, and I haven't sewn a darn thing. And the market starts in less than two months...... I think that is a good decision to make some aprons without the ruffle. I'm probably a 'no ruffle' type ;-)

  32. Goodness ... I hope that your flowers are not hurt by your predicted snow forecast ....We’re on our third snowstorm ... in 7 days... so our flowers are still sleeping.. It such a worry.... You have such a charming sewing room ... OMG..I love your l peg dollies... such a happy past-time ... mine is paper and clay dolls.. but they are not dressed as prettily, in such fine cotton fabrics...I can’t wait to see your dollies finished. I used to attend the Farmers Markets in British Columbia but in the East they are not as popular. I think the Craft Bazaars have taken over as seasonal event where more people attend... I wish you luck in selling your wares ...I would be your best customer for dollies and aprons ,if I lived there... I like the ruffled apron pattern and the chicken and cherry fabrics...Big Hugs

  37. How fun it is to visit your sewing room and to see what you have been up to. I love the aprons and the dolls. I wish you lived closer because I would love coming to a bazaar where you are set up selling.
Wishing you warmer days and more sunshine.

  38. I’ve been wanting a new cross back apron. The one I have was my grandmother’s and while it’s lasted it has seen better days. They are my favorite apron.
