A quick visit

Let a little ray of sunshine come through the clouds and I go crazy! Really, I do.

The sun came out this morning after a full day of falling snow yesterday. There was no accumulation, but still, it was blustery and cold, and on top of all that I had a dentist appointment.

So when the sun came up this morning, way before 8:00, I was out with my bucket of feed. The chicken lot was as muddy as a hog pen, and the teeny tiny goat barn looked just about as bad. Goats don't come out when it's raining or snowing, so you can imagine the mess they were standing in.

By 12:00 noon I had covered the muddy chicken lot with eight big loads of leaves, and spread dry straw inside their house...then moving on to the goat barn, I cleaned out both sections then added fresh clean straw for them to sleep on, then scrubbed and refilled all the water buckets. Whew!

Back inside at noon, Poppy said, come here a minute! Watch that little chickadee. He's pulling the stuffing out of Eli's teddy bear.

It was the sweetest thing! We were amazed at the amount of stuffing that little bird flew away with. Wish we could see the nest. Won't those tiny baby chickadees have a cozy one.

Guess who else was watching, and chomping at the bit to get out. The smart little bird ignored him and kept right on working.

Remember the new cross-back apron pattern...

I finished one last night.

It was a fun pattern to make, if you enjoy sewing on bias tape...which I do.

Oh friends, I stress over not being able to post every day, or read every new post on all my favorite blogs every day. I love and enjoy your comments so very much, but lately there's not time to reply, even to those without blogs. Feels like all my blogging friends are out there visiting and having fun, and I'm here cleaning up messes. :)  There really is less time on the computer, now that Poppy works only two, six hour days a week. "sigh"

Thanks for lending an ear. He's watching basketball, so I just might be over to visit and leave a comment.

Love,
Henny

  1. Girl, I know what you mean! I'm not outside cleaning after animals but I am babysitting. This week was spring break and I had both grandbabies! I am wiped out! Love the apron!

  2. I really like the newest apron. My sister makes aprons using bias tape and that's what she sends me. The fabric you used is cute too.
I suspect you may have to get your own computer/laptop if Poppy is going to be around so much of the time. Maybe for Mother's Day??
It has rained here all day... a steady downpour. I'm tired of it and wish for sunshine already!!

  6. Hi Henny,
I love the apron. It is beautiful.
My boys and I enjoy dissecting birds nests in the Autumn, after the birds have flown South for the Winter. I am amazed at what some of them put in their nests.

  7. That's so cute to see the bird getting the stuffing for nesting material! Those baby birds will have a very soft and well loved nest. The new apron is so cute! You just post when you have time. I can hardly imagine how busy you must be taking care of all those sweet animals. Take care Henny!

  8. How very sweet of the little birdie accumulating stuffing for it's nest. I don't envy you with the cleaning of all the animal messes BUT all your critters do sound wonderful. It must be lovely to be surrounded by sweet animals. Love this new apron, it looks perfect with the pretty bias binding. Hope it warms at your place soon and that chilly air evaporates into the Springtime.

  10. It is muddy on our farm to. I am so ready for spring to come and it to be dry and warmer. You need to get Poppy a iPad or one for you so that both of you can have a computer to work on. That I is what me and the Farmer did. I have a laptop and he has a iPad. I am not telling you what to do but it is fun for both to have their on. Love you dearly Aunt.
    Love you

  13. I haven't put up a new post in over two weeks now. I do visit and read and comment on blogs, just haven't felt like doing anything on my own. :-) In the middle of projects here and keeping busy elsewhere too.

You have a lot to keep you busy and it's no wonder you are tired at the end of a day.

You do great work with your aprons.

Have a wonderful weekend ~ FlowerLady

  14. You work so hard, keeping up with animals is a lot of work. Love the new apron, can't sew bias tape worth a darn, yours looks so good.

  15. VERY cute apron! I just sent you an email. Thank you for pointing out the chickadee on the Teddy Bear. I didn't catch that the first time I saw the picture. It sounds as if the sunshine gives you as much energy as it does me. You certainly got a LOT of work done!

  16. I love when you blog, whether its 6 days or 6 hours, it is a joy to hear about the Henny Penny farm.
I love love that apron! Aprons were always on my grandmothers and mother when I was a smaller child and teen, and I love the one I got from you, but I may just have to have another! Enjoy the weekend! Love the chickadee with a purpose! Terry PS My apron keeps my clothes clean when out working in the yard,as well as in the house.

  18. What a pretty apron. I think I like it even better than the one with the ruffle. That's a lot of bias tape on there, too. It really sets it off. My mother-in-law was a seamstress and watched every penny. Unless she could get bias tape on clearance, she rarely bought it. She's make her own out of scrap fabric. She sewed clothes for a local department store's fabric department. They feature new fabrics and patterns by having her make the garment and putting it on a manikin. She got to keep all the leftover notions and fabric. You never saw so many bits of fabric, thread, bias tape, interfacing and such as she had. She used the fabric scraps to make quilts. I have a king-sized cathedral window quilt she made with scraps. It's gorgeous.
Just a couple of days ago I collected the lint from my dryer and put it in an onion bag and hung it out for the birds. I hope Eli's teddy bear doesn't lose too much stuffing. I know you can mend the seam where that chickadee is pulling it out. It's raining a little here in St. Louis and they're saying we'll get 3 or more inches by Wednesday. It usually heads southeast and then swings up towards you. So watch out for more mud!

    1. Oh my goodness Peg. Your mother-in-law must have been an excellent seamstress! Glad I didn't know before I mailed you an apron. :) I've just sold that newest apron but I can make another one and we'll trade, if you want to. I would love to see your cathedral quilt. Putting the dryer lint out for the birds is a good idea. I'll have to do that. Thank you Peg.

  19. You are one hard working lady, Henny!! No wonder you don't have time to spend too much time on the computer - you have a teeny tiny farm to take care of! No worries, we all like to read about the adventures on the teeny tiny farm, no matter how often you post! I'm the same, I'm lucky if I get one post up a week, oh well what can I do....I work full time so there are not enough hours in the day, unfortunately.

  20. You are such a hard worker and it shows in the love you give to your animals and your home. Everything and everyone looks happy and comfortable . . . you sweet sister are amazing. I love your aprons and I would like to make this one, except I have never really got the hang of bias tape. I would love to spend and afternoon with you, so that you could convince me that it's fun :) Do you use a special foot on your machine when you do it?

    1. Well Connie, I sure wish you could spend an afternoon with me. No, I just sew the bias tape on with the regular old foot.

  21. You sure have been busy.
Must have been fun to watch the bird pulling out the stuffing. Yes, what a nice soft nest that will be.

  22. I loved this apron so much I went and bought the pattern. What size was the one you made, Small, medium or large? I was so happy to find the pattern in Walmart. Thank you for posting about it.

  23. I have heard you can make your own bias tape...you probably know about that! Your new pattern is great! My husband and I each have a computer...we were good at sharing but it is better with two:)

  24. That is a really striking apron!! I like it!! You need to find an older, but still decent laptop. David gave me his old one Christmas of 2016, oh boy, that made it waaaayyyy too easy to be on the computer. Now Larry gets lot of time on the desktop reading his sports stuff. Bet the birds would like some of Eli's undercoat for a nest. They tell you to hang some dog fur out in a suet feeder for nesting material for the birds. I tried that but to be honest the birds didn't seem to be impressed ;-)

  25. Aww, HP, it's okay! We ALL have times when we simply can't get around to all the blog reading, and we miss it, and don't have time to comment or reply. You've been busy. Our chicken coop is a mucky mess too, ugh. The animals hate this cold, wet weather. Your apron is so smart! Classy, and pretty. Love the fabric. Best wishes, friend!

  26. So sweet about the little birdie and I do love seeing your cats. Please do not worry about missing a day or two. I know spring is especially busy for you. I adore your new apron/pattern. You do such beautiful work. We have had rain for days and it is to rain thru next week. I have to drive my hubby to his Atlanta dr. this week, a 2 hr drive on the expressway. I'm sure I will be MIA on the blogs that day. Sending my wishes for a delightful day to you.
