We got snow!!! An unbelievably beautiful snow. I know this is no big deal for a lot of you who see this all winter, but for us, well...
It was yesterday and we were really beginning to wonder if was going to snow...then about 10:00 am started.
It snowed and snowed and snowed! and funny thing is, the temperature stayed at 33.3 degrees all day, so lots of snow fell before it began to stick.
then like magic...
everything began to turn white.
Then first thing this morning when I looked out the kitchen window...
the birds had gathered in the same spot but all the seed was covered.
casting an orange glow on the snow covered trees and on Eli
Then late this afternoon...
Eli, Weetie, and I walked in the edge of the woods along the property line.
We saw deer tracks and other funny little footprints in the snow. Eli followed a few with his nose to the ground.
and last, and least too...
little snow blossoms.
Okay, this is my big snow post for the year. Tonight the weatherman said we can expect warmer than normal temperatures for the rest of January. Isn't that something!
Thank you for visiting. Hope I didn't scare you away with too many pictures.
Love,
Henny

Snow was falling mid afternoon when we carried Eli outside
but was still not very deep
at 10:00 when we went to bed it was snowing...twelve hours the snow fell.

Newly fallen snow is really beautiful and the quiet that it creates is just wonderful----like being wrapped up in cotton batting. How many inches did you get? Falling like that for 12 hours it must have added up to a good bit. I love the look of it when it's sort of wet and sticks to even the littlest twiglets of the trees and bushes------makes it look like a fairyland. I saw on the news that there was a lot of ice as well and many accidents as a result. Be careful.
ReplyDeleteSure wish I could describe things like you do, that's beautiful! The news reported 11" for our county, but for us here, I would say 6 to 8. Don't know why I didn't go measure. A lot of the snow melted when it hit the ground. There have been several accidents and quite a few deaths, from ice on the roads. Thank you Vic.
DeleteBeautiful and I bet Eli loved it! We haven't gotten any snow. Just brutally cold temps. I'm not complaining because I am ready to see little green baby leaves poking out of their hiding places!
ReplyDeleteGrace & Peace,
Pam
Aww Henny, truly a winter wonderland, it looks so magical !
ReplyDeleteLove those sweet pups playing in the soft snow :)
Stay warm !
Hugs,
~Jo
This is my favorite kind of snow, that clings to every little thing and makes the world white. I'm glad it wasn't heavy enough to break any trees. Did you try to make a snowman or at least a snowball? The wet clingy snow is the best for that. Your pictures are beautiful. I especially love the two with the sun shining on the snow. We've seen some news reports of terrible road conditions in the southeast. I hope you and Poppy don't have any trouble getting around and stay safe. Did you measure the depth of the snow in your yard?
ReplyDeleteOh yes, this was the perfect snow to play in. I didn't build a snowman this time, but did make a snowball or two to throw back at Poppy. He always has to hit me, and he makes such big hard snowballs. I didn't measure, but I would guess 6 to 8 inches. A lot of the snow melted when it hit the ground before it started sticking. Thank you Peg.
DeleteWow! You sure did have a lot of snow. So beautiful. Your pictures turned out great! I'm glad our snow is all gone and we're having milder temperatures. I am so anxious to get out there and be able to putter in my yard.
ReplyDeleteSimply breathtaking. I love the wonderful silence which comes along with a fall of snow - not that we have had more than a shake from a sugar sifter this winter. My grandchildren will be deeply envious when I show them these photographs.
ReplyDeleteWonderful photo's, I love to see fresh snow. We had a little for just a few days and that was lovely, just enough to be pretty but not enough to make everything grind to a halt. The UK is not geared up to deal with heavy snow.
ReplyDeleteLooks like you may have gotten 4 or 5 inches of snow. That is a common sight here in Minneapolis! when the sun comes out for a while this will all melt! We are accustomed to seeing this much snow, and more, but it must be unusual for you there.
ReplyDeleteHey Shirley. Yes, it is unusual for us to get this much snow. The sun has really melted it a lot today, in fact, all the snow is gone from the trees. It was fun, but now I'm ready for it to go away.
DeleteIt is like a beautiful Winter wonderland, we have had a sprinkling just enough to make it pretty.
ReplyDeletewhen we explained our purpose and that we were authorised by the farmer who had been notified of our impending visit, they were happy. They also questioned the jetski family who confirmed they were the owners of the land on the other side which gave them rights of access.

Too many photos scare us away? I don't think so. I enjoyed them all. No, snow in s.e. FL, so I'll just enjoy yours. It did get down to 39 and real feel temp was 30 yesterday morning. This morning it is 48, so warming back up.
ReplyDeleteHappy January ~ FlowerLady
Loved them!!!
ReplyDeleteEli blends in well with the snow
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos. It's windy and very cold here this morning, but a beautiful sunrise (and an early one, which means spring is coming)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos! Snow is a treat for us too, but only as long as it melts the next day, LOL
ReplyDeleteOh I love the photos of Eli in the snow. It does look pretty, but after a while it's just a mess. No snow here, just cold.
ReplyDeleteAwesome post on snow. You make it seem if I'm right there in the snow.
ReplyDeleteHow beautiful! I know the excitement of a big, beautiful snow like that when you don't get snow very often. I grew up in Arkansas and any snow was quite exciting but one like that was special indeed! Your pictures are lovely and I love the way you have the first picture on the day the snow started and then the same view the next day. You can see just how much snow you got, Wow! And all the cardinals you get always amaze me. A beautiful snow like that turns everything into a wonderful fairy world doesn't it? I love the quiet, muffled sound of a snow too. It is all simply magic! I'm so glad you and Poppy got out and played in it! Special snow memories!
ReplyDeleteThank you Bonnie. A big snow is fun, but now I'm ready for it to go away. I want to see the ground again. :) There are lots of cardinals here. Poppy says they were all born and raised here. I wonder?? We have seen a nest of cardinals in a big cedar tree before.
DeletePoppy is right! I was curious about them and looked them up. They do not migrate so the ones you see live their whole lives in your area. I also discovered the cardinal is your state bird! They are such beautiful birds and we see one or two pairs at a time but never in the quantity you have there!
DeleteThank you Bonnie. That's good to know. I'm going to tell Poppy.
DeleteOh, so beautiful, especially when lit up by the sun! That's the kind of snow we usually get here in Seattle too - rare, heavy and wet, at about 32-33 degrees, beautiful, and then quickly gone. Thanks to all of the beautiful photos!
ReplyDeleteAnd thank you for the great comment you posted on my blog yesterday. It's our anniversary!
Love all your beautiful pictures Henny. You can never post too many. Save them to look at the next time you're really fed up with the heat and humidity! They'll make you smile! Thanks for sharing all the beauty down your way.
ReplyDeleteThank you Diane. I'll have to do that this summer when I am roasting, out working in the garden. :)
DeleteThe new snow is beautiful, and extra so when the sun comes out! I was trying to figure out why you said that you carried Eli out? I'm sure he loved it, he is made for that kind of weather!!
ReplyDeleteWell, Karen, probably just my NC way of speaking. Eli never runs loose. He is either in the goat lot, on one of the screened-in porches, or inside with us. When I say we carried him out, I mean we let him out to run and play while we are with him. Since the day we brought him home, we have heard horror stories of how these dogs will wander off and keep going. We are so afraid of losing him. :) He is such a good boy though and never goes out of our sight. Hope this what you were asking. I always appreciate your comments. Henny
DeleteWinter just doesn't seem like winter without at least one descent snowfall. Yours was a beauty for sure, and you captured it wonderfully. I know you will be enjoying warmer temps. I will!
ReplyDeleteYour pictures are just gorgeous Henny! I loved seeing Eli out in the snow, he definitely looks like he would enjoy the snow! So much fun to get out and hike in such gorgeous weather! I loved the sunshine on the snow, isn't it glorious to see! I love it so, and I'm glad you were able to get out and enjoy it :) Happy hugs to you today!
ReplyDeleteThese pictures are amazing . . . so pretty.
ReplyDeleteBe careful and don't loose Eli in a snow drift:)
Check your email . . . you're the winner of my Give-A-Way :)
Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteYour snow pictures are beautiful! Glad you could enjoy some snow. It is melting here today but more in the future forecast! Nancy
ReplyDeleteI thought I had commented to this post I read them and I think like I am answering you and I forget to post sometimes. I know I am losing it. Your snow pictures are great!! I did not make any snow cream I don't really like it. I know I am weird. Maybe I just don't know how to make it good. Daddy always made it at home when I was young and I loved it.
ReplyDeleteLove you bunches!!
The more pictures the better! That snow sure made your house and surrounding woods beautiful.
ReplyDeleteYour snow is way prettier than ours! :)
ReplyDeleteIt's gorgeous! I'm GLAD you took lots of pictures.
ReplyDeleteWe have snow today, too. It's calming. I'm wearing my jammie pants all day because I plan on staying put.
Beautiful sun on snow pictures. Are those cardinals in the tree? Believe it or not, I have never seen a cardinal in my entire life!
ReplyDeleteThank you! Yes those are cardinals. We have lots of cardinals and they are such beautiful birds. You can come see our any time!

ReplyDeleteHi Henny, beautiful scenery you have, and the dog, superb.
ReplyDeleteYou know- I can't believe I am not following you. I thought I was and then realized that your blog is not on my sidebar (I read from there). Anyway, I am your newest follower and will put you on my sidebar (you are stuck with me now-lol). Beautiful photos here, too!!! xo Diana
ReplyDeleteWell, I am tickled to death to be stuck with you! Thank you so much, and I will be over to visit you.
DeleteWhat beautiful photos. I enjoyed them immensely. This is the first year in MANY that I am working and therefore wa more concerned about getting to work, so I didn't enjoy our snowfall as I would have in years before.
ReplyDeleteI live on a lot that backs up against woods on two sides and should render beautiful snow photos, but I didn't get out to get any ( I don't think we had near as much snow as you, anyway). So I appreciate your photos (and enthusiasm) that much more.
Thank you for sharing.
Thank you Dolly! Oh I remember all those years of having to be at work at 8:00 am. It is a worry when it snows. I'm scared to drive snowy, icy roads. Thank you for visiting and leaving a comment.
Delete"Warmer than normal temps for the rest of January" -- yippee!!! Because I live in NC too, I'm hoping that means for us as well :) We've had enough bone-chilling cold. Your snow is simply gorgeous! So glad you got so many really beautiful photos of it b/c it doesn't come in those quantities often here! Eli just blends right in :)
