It was a cold windy walk around the pond with Eli and Weetie late this afternoon...
One of these days I'll remember to take pictures of all the stock piles of leaves hauled from the yard.
Poppy needs the computer, so this will have to be my post. Hope to be back soon.
Love,
Henny
Oh, and we are now at 161 hours straight of below freezing temperatures. Did I say that right?
Cold for Poppy and me but Eli couldn't have been happier.
Weather like this seems sad and lonely to me. I long for warm days and sunshine and a rake or hoe in my hand.
Last week before this dreary weather set in, I started cleaning the little path from the back porch to the tool shed...
The leaves were deep and heavy.
And this is why I love working outside! The work is tiring, but it's such a good tired.
raked here too, just left of the path.

I long for warm days and sunshine too. Over 160 hours of below freezing temperatures does not sound like fun at all. Hopefully there will be a milder weather very soon! I've been waiting and watching the times of our sunrise. Waiting for the sun to rise before 8. That will be worth celebrating.
ReplyDeleteI do appreciate having four seasons here. Cold clear weather in winter is fine with me. We do indoor projects and go for walks bundled up. It's the dark, rainy days that get us down around here.
ReplyDeleteI hope you get a break in the weather soon. I'm sure ready for one. We're supposed to start warming up and hit 55-60 degrees by Wednesday. This is after being below zero last week and below freezing since well before Christmas. It's just crazy sometimes. I feel so sorry for those people along the coast who got hit so hard with the last storm. I'm sure glad I don't live there. When we heard about it on the TV news I told my husband that I'm sure glad our ancestors didn't settle there; we'd probably still be there. My ggg- grandfather came to Missouri from Kentucky before the Civil War and it's still home to most of his descendants.
ReplyDeleteI do't mind the cold, although we don't get extremely low temperatures here. It is the low light levels and short daylight hours that I do not care for. I do like having the sun shining through the windows and this time of the year it is just too low in the sky. It is just the right height to shine through the car windscreen and blind you though. Eli looks right at home romping around and with his coat i don't suppose that he even notices the cold.
ReplyDeleteLove to see Eli exploring, what a delight he is. I am not at all envious of the awful weather conditions you are having, hopefully things will get better soon.
ReplyDeleteOh my that looks so COLD!!! Then you say 161 hours straight of below freezing temps. I just wouldn't be able to handle it. I've lived down here in s.e. FL since 1960 and our winters for the most part are rather mild. Summers are brutal though with heat and humidity and the 6 month threat of hurricanes.
ReplyDeleteWorking outside does make us a 'good tired'. It just feels so good being out there among all of the beauty, the scents, etc.
Have a wonderful 2018 ~ FlowerLady
That's a lot of work, we tend to let the yard go in winter time.
ReplyDeleteI love that "good tired" feeling, too, when you work outside. We have been cooped up since Wednesday mainly because of the ice and I get a little nuts. It's different up north because roads get plowed and treated with sand and ice. Here we just have to wait for it to melt. We finally ventured out yesterday for some groceries. Some seafood restaurants are closed because the fishermen can't get out and churches are closed today because of the treacherous ice on the parking lots, sidewalks, and steps. Our driveway and road are still a skating rink! A couple more days though and we will return to a more normal 50s.
ReplyDeleteI agree I am actually ready for some warmer weather myself. I love the snow but I don't like it being this cold. It is suppose to warm up this coming week but it is bringing in rain with the warm air.
ReplyDeleteLove you bunches
Maybe if you had more snow you would like winter more. So much nicer seeing a snowy winter scene than a brown and dreary one without the snow. If dressed properly it is a beautiful time to be outside walking. Air is so fresh and clean. You can always put a snow shovel in your hands to get that good work feeling. : )
ReplyDeleteI do like summer too though!!
that's what I like about summer, you might melt, but it's happy weather
ReplyDelete161 hours of below freezing temperatures means it can only get better.....right? Sorry you're dealing with such unseasonable temps down there. I have a dear sister in NC so I hear about your weather regularly. Praying that things warm up for you soon. We have had below zero here since the day after Christmas and today it finally climbed into the 20's above!!!!! Keep the faith Henny!!!
ReplyDeleteYou really accomplished a lot already and it will pay off in the spring. Yes, the weather can be kind of sad and lonely, but it helps to keep busy, even in the cold. Don't walk out on that ice! Uffda, as we say here.
ReplyDeleteYour cleared path looks so neat and prim; makes me want to get out and get started on some cleaning up. I really need to add mulch around some new azaleas I planted in the fall. I am hoping all those hours and hours of freezing temps didn't damage them. I see you got just enough snow to make things pretty. We haven't had any yet.
ReplyDeleteEli looks like he's in 7th Heaven in the cold weather. Your place looks really neat and orderly outside...you should be so proud of yourself.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you! Bring on the warm weather!

ReplyDeleteWow, you are cold! Much colder than we were I think. We did get to close to the freezing mark here during the day, even during our cold spell. All back to green and brown and WET here now. I think those few days of slow melting and ugliness were the worst. Eli is perfectly dressed for your weather! Stay warm and safe.
ReplyDeleteHope you warm up soon as I know you are not used to it. It got to 29 F today felt like a heat wave:)
ReplyDeleteI am like you, I love a good day outside working. That is why I just love to garden. I enjoy growing and tending to everything.
ReplyDeleteStay Warm, we are slowly warming up here in Wisconsin, we had -30 degrees!!! COLD!!!! And now, we are to have 40 degrees by Thursday!! And that is almost too warm for us this time of year. CRAZY!
I know what you mean by a good tired and I loved reading that line you wrote, "I long for warm days and sunshine and a rake or hoe in my hand". Dear friend we are kindred spirits. Our winter is so much milder than last year. Last year we had snow and ice from late October through March. This year we have had very little snow, mostly rain, ice and grey skies. The grey skies are saddening . . . but I never forget that Spring is just around the corner. I'm looking forward to seeing tulips start breaking through the ground . . . they always put a smile on my face:)
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely day.
Connie :)
Somehow your blog has disappeared off my list.....thank goodness I have remedied that as I love visiting your beautiful place. You have the cutest tool shed. The photos of your Winter wonderland are lovely, though like you I would much prefer sweet sunshine and warm days.
ReplyDeleteHasn't our NC weather been crazy this year so far? We woke up to 2" of snow here near the coast this morning, but hubby read that around Raleigh they got 12"!!! So I'm supposing you got more too -- I'm mighty late reading blogs. Glad you got some outside work done while it was sunny :) Stay warm!
