The painted bathroom

Guess I'll go ahead and post about the painted bathroom and get that over with. You see, the color I had in mind was a bright white with just a hint, a hint! of pink. But colors change inside the cabin.

As soon as the paint touched the wall, it became light lavender. I added half a can of white to the paint which lightened it a little more.

Why, back many years ago when we bought new carpet for the cabin, the color we picked out was the color of a fawn. It was a shock when one of the installers said something about the carpet being a mauve color. It's crazy!

The new (thrift store) Toile shower curtain.

Our friend Nellie stopped by. When I mentioned to her that I was painting the bathroom light pink, she stuck her head in, looked around and said, "It looks like white to me".

Funny, the bathroom is so small I can only show you a little at the time.

anyhow, it is a new coat of paint, and clean.

that out of style border around the back of the sink was my idea. The old vinyl had come unglued in places and was stained.

When we win the lottery, I am going straight out and buy a beautiful new vanity cabinet and mirror. Trouble is, you can't win the lottery if you don't play. Last time I stopped for gas, for the first time ever, I bought a three dollar scratch-off lottery card, went back to my car and scratched it off. I won three dollars. With that, I decided to hang on to my three dollars.

It's about bedtime again. They sure roll around quick, don't they. Thank you, friends.

Love,
Henny

  1. We painted the garage Frostine by Ben Moore, which has a tiny amount of green/blue tones in it but it looks white to me.

  2. It is strange that your colors change in your house. It is always nice to have a freshly painted room though! Nancy

    1. Hey Nancy. Yes, it is strange. I love new paint too.

  3. It looks great, Henny! Paint colors are tricky! One time we painted our entire house yellow with red trim. It looked like a Chinese restaurant. We had to turn right around and paint it white with green trim. I took photos though!

    1. Thank you Pom Pom. Oh, that would be discouraging. I can picture that happening to me though. :)

  4. I would buy a scratch off, but I have no luck at that, so I don't, haha.
Your bathroom is gorgeous. I love it.

    1. Thank you Linda. That's why I didn't try another three dollar card. I would have lost on the next scratch-off. :)

  5. I think your bathroom turned out just fine. It looks so fresh and neat as only a newly painted room looks.
When we built the house I chose a backsplash that I now dislike but if we pull it off I'm afraid the backing will tear away and make a huge messy problem. Think I'll just ignore it.

    1. Thank you. I suppose sometimes it's best to just ignore it. I have to ignore lots of things around here that need fixing. :)

  7. It looks white to me, too. It certainly looks clean and bright like a freshly painted wall should look, but I don't see the lavender. I love the shower curtain. I looked at one almost like it today and thought about getting one some day. I hope you don't get bad storms from the remains of hurricane Maria. Those winds are amazingly strong even after the storm loses its hurricane statue. One year a hurricane that hit Texas moved north through Missouri and we had 75 mph winds. A large tree was blown down in a neighbor's yard. I hope Maria stays off shore far enough that you don't have a problem with it.

    1. Thank you Peg. Well, bright and clean is what I really wanted, and the pink curtain fits in, so I'm happy. We have had a strong breeze today, but not a drop of rain. We could sure use a shower. You would think by the time that storm made it to Missouri from Texas, it would be too weak to do any damage. You just never know. We have been lucky here so far this year.

  8. There are many things I'd buy and replace in this old farm house (and I don't play the lottery either, ha ha). I bought a light aqua/green, sort of a green/blue paint to paint a room recently, and it turned out much brighter than we thought it would on the paint chip. We still like it though. Your new shower curtain looks nice.

    1. Thank you! It is fun to think about what all that we would buy and do, if we won the lottery!

  9. Nice, very nice...I find the smaller the room, the more difficult to paint, especially bathrooms.

  10. It looks fresh and clean, exactly what you want in a bathroom. Love the shower curtain, what a great find.

  11. The color looks just right to me. And new fresh paint is so wonderful and clean looking. I love those little doves hanging over the towel rack.

Picking paint colors is a real skill. Just figuring out what color you want to aim at is just the tip of the iceberg with all those color chips to sort through. A painter told me once to pick the color you want and then get the next color down on the paint chip card which is a paler shade. Over a large surface the color becomes intensified and will be darker and/or brighter it you choose the one that you originally picked. And varying light makes a huge difference too. We painted the dormers on our house a couple of years ago and depending on whether it's sunny or overcast or the light is coming out of the west it can look grey, pale blue or light green (which is the color that we were going for). It makes it hard to describe the house when giving directions because it can be any one of three colors!

    1. Thank you Vic. I will remember that when I pick the color for the other bathroom and the hall. Sharon, "At Rivercrest Cottage" blog suggested getting the "daylight" light bulbs. I think those would really help since we have a lot of wood walls. The bulbs I looked at in Walmart are expensive but I sure plan to try them. That's funny how the light changes the color of the dormers on your house. I guess we all have these problems.

  12. I do that too . . .I think about what I would do if I won the lottery, but I never buy a ticket, LOL. I
have also bought paint and had it look different when it was on the walls. It's very hard to tell from those little square sample colors in the paint department.

  13. I love your bathroom. Sometimes just the type of lightbulb can make paint look diff. colors. Your shower curtain is lovely, as well. I know it feels good to have the room freshly painted.

  14. Your bath is lovely, Henny! I painted my kitchen white with a hint of pink, it was called "confetti" made by Kilz. It was lovely for about 5 years, now faded to a cream that is not particularly pretty. So, I guess lighting is the biggest problem with paint colors. I love the lottery story, at least you won...love Terry

  16. I need new carpets desperately. I keep procrastinating on that and painting because of furniture that has to be moved, your bathroom looks great!!! I love your narrow bureau, I have one like that stained. Like the white paint, winter project idea, that I can do without help, lol... hugs, lj

  17. Your bathroom looks very nice. Paint colors are very tricky to get right. I'm going to be deciding on paint colors for our new house in the not too distance future. I'm pretty daring with paint colors. I figure you can always paint it again if you don't like it.

  18. Colors change... Or how we see them, does. We have very, very, very pale pink on hearth room walls, and they look white.

And nothing is out of style or out of date, if you like it. So there!!!!

I call my tiny downstairs bathroom, a powder room. :-) Well, since we enlarged it to put the washer/dryer in, it isn't quite so tiny. But compared to what you see on tv, it isssssss tiny!!!! :-)

Don't play the lottery! At least, that' my opinion. :-) And so wise of you, to keep those $3 dollars. Most people get sucked right in, and go back and play them again. And.................. Not a good idea.

  19. I really admire your energy, and the little bathroom looks really nice. Yes, I daydream about winning the lottery, which is silly because I don't play. Some of it seems very complicated to me. It is fall like up here in Vermont, but warm, wish it would last!

I like your bathroom, it is pretty.
We finally have cool temps. And that is strange to say for someone to say from Wisconsin. But we had two weeks of September weather in the 90's!!! CrAzY!

  28. Hi Henny - I know what you mean about colours. Every colour I picked out from a colour chart for this new house would look different if I took the chart outside. It can drive you nuts trying to choose the right ones. You must be very happy with your freshly painted bathroom. New paint and color can surely lift your spirits. :) How's Smokey doin?

  29. The room is looking pretty Henny! I really like the new curtain. I guess you're going to have to add colors with fabrics and stuff to bring the color you want in the room since the paint won't cooperate.

  30. Your lottery story is cute :) I feel the same way. Your bathroom looks lovely! Maybe -- is there a way that, with the other items you put in the room, the color of lavender would stand out more? Ah well, it is always a toss up with paint, isn't it! As you say, it is freshly painted and looks clean and pretty :)
