Just when you think you are getting ahead...

Yesterday, there was a little set back to my fall cleaning, Poppy was home all day! I should have stayed home instead of riding with him to Oxford to pick up the wall clock we had repaired. We then drove to Wake Forest and walked through Lowes, hoping to buy enough carpet for our two small bathrooms. Didn't have any luck with that.

At Lowes, this couple greeted us at the front door. Her outfit looks like something I might like. :)

Do you ever have a day that, instead of accomplishing things, you only make more work for yourself? Yesterday was like that for us.

Our late day walk with Eli...

after our walk around the pond, Eli, without his leash, likes to run on the dirt road and fight with Poppy. Well, he decided to check out the weeds on the far side of the ditch and guess what grew there?

Beggar's lice! Poor baby. These things were sticking to his feet and face and his tail was full of them. We couldn't help but laugh. Eli acted like someone had thrown a net over him, like he could not walk. It took some time to pick these sticky little seeds off him, and set him free.

It had been three days with no sign of Wilder. I was propped up at the kitchen sink, looking out the window, when who should hop by...

but Wilder. It's the bunny, I yelled to Poppy. Seeing him making it on his own, makes me happy.

and moving right along with nature,  we found a new tree growing on the property...

This is a possum haw, or deciduous holly. It reminds me of the holly trees here, except the leaves are not tough and sharp pointed. A pretty little tree with lots of red berries.

Better get busy. Poppy is home again today and here it is time for lunch. I might as well go search through the refrigerator. :)

Thank you for visiting.

Love,
Henny

  1. Ohhhhh poorrrrr Eli!!!! poor, poor baby. How unkind a happening. when he was just trying to have fun. ,-))))))

Yes, I'd like that "Lady's" outfit too. But I don't have the waist any more, to do it justice. -grin-

Oh it's a good thing, to take a day off, now and then!!!!! All work and no play, makes 'Henny Penny' a dull gal! ,-))))))

    Gentle hugs...

  2. Our fuzzy Mamie is about 1/16th the size of Eli and keeping her coat tidy is a chore. I can't imagine grooming your fuzzball!

  5. I really like that kind of holly tree. The leaves are lighter green, and they don't hurt :) Glad you got to see your bunny! And I know the kind of day whereof you speak. You sit down exhausted on the couch at the end of it, and ask yourself what exactly you did, and laugh because you can't really remember, but you know there were no projects finished!

  7. I remember those days-when my husband would be home and I couldn't get anything done. The skeleton couple is funny-a good display. Eli is such a beautiful dog, glad you got those things out of his fur, I never heard of beggars lice-it doesn't sound pleasant! Wilder is there, that's wonderful. I like that name. I feel very attached to the wild creatures here. I keep water out for them, and picked up some nice acorns for everyone today.

  8. Oh, don't you just hate beggar lice! My dogs run the woods and fields around our place and they come back with beggar lice and some kind of burr. Good thing they are outside dogs! I would get nothing done if I had to pick them clean all the time. Love the Mr. And Mrs,! I think I might like her outfit, too!

    Grace & Peace,
    Pam

  9. Carpet for two small bathrooms doesn't sound too bad. In my childhood bathroom they had that cheap vinyl stuff that peeled up after awhile

  10. I'm glad you got to see Wilder again. This morning in the park I saw that black bunny that someone must have left there. It's quite tame and next time I walk I'll take something to try to get him to come closer than 3 feet away from me.
I absolutely hate days where I get nothing done that I intended to do. My DH says why fret about it. You can do those things tomorrow. That's not how I feel about it though.

  12. Glad to hear that Wilder is still hanging out in your neck of the woods.
I never heard of Beggar's lice, but I see that it is a kind of stickseed. Must have not been fun cleaning Eli up.

  14. Beggar's lice - geesh, that sounded awful. I thought at first it was bugs. ewwwww! It was good to see Eli again. And wonderful to see Wilder. That would make me happy, too, to have him drop by regularly. It's much like having Simon around. I know there are dangers and do worry but he just keeps keepin' on. :)I hope you are enjoying the fall weather.

  15. Poor Eli. I'm wondering if Weetie goes along on the walks? Sounds like a wonderful day getting "sprung" and free to wander. And I think you're so lucky to have that tree close by and growing decorations for you! Those berries and leaves will make a wonderful wreath when it gets close to Christmas! Maybe you could make a wreath of the leaves and berries to go around the deer's neck?

  16. I know what you mean. I am easily overwhelmed by all the things I'd like to do. Trouble is, I like resting, too!

  17. Poor Eli. Stickers are no fun for dogs OR the people pulling them out. Eli has such a beautiful coat. Glad you saw your bunny again. It's good to know he is making it out there all by himself.

  18. I have days like that more often than not. I get a list going in my head and then Mark will say "let's go to town" and my day is shot. I have one wall painted in my bedroom and I sit here on this computer and look down at the paint cans waiting on me to get up and do something with them...so I also have lazyitis issues. Have a great weekend!

  19. I have a lot of days where I make more work for myself, LOL. A good spontaneous day is good for the soul every now and then though. great shot of Wilder!

  20. Even though it slows you down and makes more work it is always nice to spend time with hubby. Glad the bunny came back and is okay. Poor you and poor Eli having to get those out! Nancy

I like that kind of holly without the sharp points.
At least the beggars lice was easy to see on Eli! : )

  22. Hi,
I hear ya! I am having a week like your sharing about your one day. ;-) Ha! Just getting things fixed and replaced from the lighting strike. Today a power pole fell over one block from our home. Another mess! And no power!
    Ahhhhh!
