The usual!

Out feeding the animals early yesterday I spotted the rake that was left leaning against a tree.

When the chickens are walking on black wet ground, it bothers me. It looks cold and uncomfortable...so I raked two more loads of leaves and dumped them inside the lot. The hens find bits of grass and moss and other stuff mixed in the leaves.

Wasn't long before the inside of the lot was covered in leaves too...

Anyhow, after lunch, Poppy got comfortable in his raggedy old chair and turned the TV channel to "Gun Smoke".

By the way, do you remember back when we first found Smokey. Back when someone threw him out on the dirt road. He was just a little kitten. Remember how Poppy put his foot firmly down and said, "no more cats in the house". "He can stay here but he has to be an outside cat".  Well, does this look like a kitty who is afraid to come inside? a kitty who remembers Poppy's words of warning?

So, the living room being occupied with sleeping folk, I decided to spend the afternoon in my very own teeny tiny mouse house, the sewing room...

I spent the afternoon cutting out another apron, an old fashioned bonnet, and a couple of plastic bag holders. Now I'm ready to sit down at the sewing machine.

There is always a kitty close by. Glad he noticed the sun shining through the window and decided to leave my fabric and patterns alone.

Better go. I've got lots to do this morning...a package to mail, prescriptions to pick up in Henderson, and a few groceries to buy. So, I hope to be back here soon.

Love,
Henny

  1. Hi Henny, Smokey looks very comfortable! Your sewing room looks like a wonderful place to spend an afternoon. We had sunshine yesterday too. It was so lovely to see. Today we received a couple inches of snow.
Hope you got all your errands done!
    Take care.

  2. That Smokey does look comfy. He certainly was lucky to be dumped at your house and took control of the situation to his benefit. Most cats do have a way of ingratiating themselves.

  3. That picture of Smokey looling all over Poppy made my day. Why is it the people who profess to dislike indoor animals are the ones the animals make a bee-line to? Hope all the animals stay warm this week.

  4. Looks like a good day going on at your house. I am dreading taking down Christmas decorations and putting them up. I always wait until after new year.
    Love you

  5. I love relaxing days like that . . . and the sun looks so inviting coming through the window. I'm enjoying not having yard work and more time to sew, but my bones are so cold that Springtime sound wonderful :)
    Happy New Year!

  6. Cats do have a way of working themselves into a house-hold (and a heart). Yours look very content.

  8. You are so good to your chickens, Henny. It's so nice to see. I think little Smokey knew right from the start who it was he must work on to land a good, indoor home. Isn't he a wise one. ;-)

  13. You seem to have leaves to rake all year! You get lots of exercise but sometimes you need a break.

  16. Aren't hens thrilled to have a forkful of hay, or weeds or whatever> When we had our half a dozen backyard hens I'd dig out sods and they'd be over the moon with hen happiness.

  17. I'm interested in your blend of hen breeds. Looking to add a couple to our little brood and I'm thinking about breeds. Right now have 2 Isa Browns and 2 Buffs. All good layers, but perhaps more important, friendly and easy going. Any suggestions?

  18. I love how your husband bonded with Smokey. I used to have a Smokey that looked the same, I named him after my Uncle's Smokey lol. Aren't cats wonderful at helping you sew? It's nearly impossible to get anything done. I've tried to sneak into my craft room but that doesn't work.
