Stargazer lily the storm blew over, in a scrawny little flower arrangement. After taking this picture, the other blossom opened.
"You won't hear me complaining about the heat this summer"! That was my boasting back in March or April when it seemed like winter would never end. Well, who knew it would be this humid and wet all summer, making the heat almost unbearable.
It's like the rain forest! I don't think the grass here has dried out even once this summer. It grows like crazy and is hard to mow, choking and stalling my little push mower.
Maybe, just maybe, there will something worth posting tomorrow. Shelby and I are supposed to meet in Wake Forest today. We live forty five minutes apart and yet never see each other. When Mama died in 2007, Shelby and I agreed that we would get together at least once a month, but has it happened? No, life is too busy!
Hey, if I look like I am in pain here, it's because I was. "worried and in pain"! Remember about three months ago when Shelby carried me for the MRI. We did get a good laugh. Shelby said, "here, lets take a selfie, and they say to get a good selfie, you need to look 'up' at the camera". So here's our selfie.
Shelby said she had to go to the garden first this morning and would call me after she had picked the beans. Well, that may be a while. Their bean rows are about half a mile long, nothing like the beans growing on the little wattle fence in the teeny tiny garden.
and a kitty cat picture...
any chicken left in that Tyson's box?
nope!
Better get busy. Shelby might be a fast bean picker!
Love,
Henny

Only 45 minutes away from each other!! You certainly should be taking advantage of that short distance. My sister lives 13 hours away, that makes for a long haul, and our visits are few and far between. Sisters need to stay in touch.
ReplyDeleteI, too have a sister that lives 2 hours away. We don't see each other that often much to my sadness.
ReplyDeleteLove your selfie! The cat photos are very cute too.
What a wacky time to take a selfie!
ReplyDeleteSorry about all that heat. Up here we're going through a bit of a hot spell ourselves along with a need for rain. They keep promising it, and then nothing. The farm where I bought a community share this year even cancelled this week's allotment due to the drought.
what a lovely post you write, it made me smile :) x
ReplyDeleteI feel so badly for people who must work outdoors all day in this humidity. Just heat is bad enough, but the humidity!!! I'm fortunate to live just a mile and a half from my sister. We lived almost a thousand miles apart for 9 years and when my husband retired and we came home, location was the most important criteria when we bought our house. My sister and I meet most mornings and walk together for our exercise. Maybe you and Shelby could pick a certain day or date to meet every month. If it's on your calendar you're more likely to make sure you do it. It needs to be a priority. Enjoy your day with her today.
ReplyDeleteIt is scorching hot here, for the second day. We should have thunder storms later and then more heat, Three days ago it was cold enough to have the heating on. Your lily is pretty, I have some dark ones but they are showing very little colour as yet. My beans are in flower, everything is almost a month later than it should be. Cats are so inquisitive but are fun to watch.
ReplyDeleteI love your selfie!! You look so much alike - how nice to have your sister so close you can meet on a whim!
ReplyDeleteBless your heart, you have been having quite the summer. I know how bad you hate storms and you certainly are getting your share and then some. Here's wishing you more time with Shelby and that you start feeling better, too.
ReplyDeleteGod Bless You.
Connie :)
Oh you are absolutely right about this nasty weather. We will be heading to TN tomorrow and my son tells me it will be close to 100 on Friday! Good thing we have plans to visit a state park and play in the waterfalls! It is so nice that you have a sis who lives so close...all of my family are in Ohio, BUT one my sisters is flying down for my birthday in Sept. and we are heading to the beach...just the two of us! I am so excited I can hardly stand it! :)
ReplyDeleteOh Henny...it has been hot here, with almost no rain to speak off. My garden is truly suffering, but I try not to wish the summer away :0) enjoy your outing dear lady... mari
ReplyDeleteHow fortunate you are to have a sister living within 45 minutes of your home. My little brother lives 4000 miles away, with an ocean in between, I'm hoping for a Chunnel one day :)
ReplyDeleteSweet kitties, no chicken, but they do love the box it came in :)
Stay cool dear lady.
~Jo
Love the summers where I live. They are like one long spring. : )
ReplyDeleteSo that's how you get a good selfie. I have yet to get one I like!! : )
I think many siblings face the same challenge as you with Shelby
ReplyDeleteSummer is pretty bad here in Upstate SC. I kept the house around 80 to save on my power bill and it's helped get my body used to warm weather. When you live in a freezer all day like some people do, you don't last too long in the sun.
ReplyDeleteI wonder what Shelby does with all those beans? I hope she got them picked with time to spare so you could have you visit together.
ReplyDeleteI love that picture of you and aunt Shelby!!! Love you, mama.
ReplyDeleteYour gur
Hope you enjoyed your time with Shelby. I live over 2 or 3 hours away from my daughters so we write dates in the diary each month so that we see each other regularly.
ReplyDeleteI wish my sister and brother could get together once a month. I miss them so bad since they moved so far away. I love the picture of you and aunt Shelby. I love you both. Hope your back is feeling better!
ReplyDeleteLove you.
you girls need to get together more often. don't waste a day while you have the opportunity.
ReplyDeleteXX OO - have a fun time together.
ReplyDeleteI love the lily photo.
Carla
You do have a worried look in the photo. Still, a nice photo to have of you and your sister. Hasn't it been an awful summer? Meant even enjoy it because It's too hot and humid to be outside.
ReplyDeleteI hope you can stay cool (the heat here is bad already with worse to come!) and aren't in any pain today!
ReplyDeleteYour kitties are cute! Cats sure like empty boxes!
Your flower is beautiful. We got some rain today! Really needed it. So hot here also. Cats sure are interesting to watch. Nancy
ReplyDeleteYes please get together more , my sister and I lived 3 hours away and we would chat via FB and text and never really got to see each other and well the worst happened and she was only 62 and I now live regretting it ! Lovely photo of you two . Thanks for sharing , Hope you can stay cool and aren't in pain . Have a good weekend !
ReplyDeleteHow are you feeling today, Henny? I've been hoping you are relieved from the back pain?
