It's spring!!

Thank you all for the kind comments and good advice you left on my last post. Sounds like a lot of you have gone through back problems too and understand what it's like. Thank you!

I've simply got to get back to blogging and reading and enjoying being with you all. Gosh, this feels like being in solitary confinement! You know what is worrying me even more than this pain...the fact that I can not stand up straight. Will this ever go away?

March 31st I have an appointment with an orthopedic doctor and April 7th, an appointment with an osteoporosis doctor. Yesterday, Shelby, bless her heart, spent another Monday driving me to an "Urgent Care" facility in Wake Forest. I wanted another doctor's opinion and also wanted to be tested for Lyme's disease. The doctor at Urgent Care feels sure my problem is "Sciatica" and he is testing for Lyme's disease. The results will be back in a couple of days.

Enjoying spring through a window....

It's pretty chilly here this morning...32 degrees, but lately the weather has been simply beautiful!

This flowering quince bloomed in December when we had the 70 degree weather at Christmas. I'm surprised at it blooming again.

Sunday, while stretched out on the couch, I watched Poppy put together my new pink wheelbarrow. Can you tell there was a basketball game on too? I'm surprised he got the wheels on the right end. :)

Perfect! It's lightweight and easy to push or pull.

Eli says he is tired of looking out the window too. We miss walking up the path every afternoon, watching for Poppy's truck.

Oh my, the house needs a good cleaning...the furniture needs polishing...the windows and screens need washing...I've simply got to get well!

Hope to be back soon.

Love,
Henny

  2. You WILL get well. It will just take some time and patience on your part. Glad you went for a second opinion (can't hurt for another set of eyes to check things out).

  3. I am so sorry you have been having issues with your back. I work in PT so I see this often and have even experienced some of it myself. I missed the other post (I will go back and read it) about it. Ice is what has always made mine better. Any time there is pain, there is inflammation. Ice is the best "medicine" or as my PT says, "ice is your best friend". I hope you get some good news and take it easy!

  6. I am so sorry that you are down and at this time of the year when we all love getting outside and getting our hands dirty. I have had a bad back since my twenties and every now and then it flairs up and feels like I'm done for, but I have a few exercises that I do every morning the first thing when I wake up (I didn't start doing these until about 10 years ago). They are just slow stretches that warm the muscles and joints up. When you are better again and ready to get back to a normal routine, ask your doctor to show you some that would be good for you. Since doing these I have cut my doctor visits down by about 80% and I love it. I never feel like doing them, because they hurt in the morning, but they have saved me :) We want you outside with a smile on your face, a song in your heart and your hands on that new pink wheel barrow :)
    You are in my prayers.
    Connie :)

  7. I'm glad to hear from you; I've been worried. How awful to be unable to stand up straight - for so many days, too. I hope you get a definite diagnosis and that there's some treatment that will speed your recovery. You must be going crazy with pain and frustration. Your yard is beautiful and I know that you're wanting to get out there and do something. Love the wheelbarrow. I'm glad it's got 2 wheels and a big handle and hope you'll be able to get out and use it before too long.

    1. Thank you Peg. Not being able to stand up straight is scary to me. I really think the doctor should have worked me into his schedule sooner than March 30th. I feel like every day I am doing more damage to my back...and it is painful!

  8. I am glad you are seeing the Doctors, but not until the end of the month...so sorry you have to wait. I hope you don't have Lymes as it has a mind of it's own. I hope you can get some rest that helps:)

  10. Glad you are feeling a bit better. Yes, awful time of the year to be laid low, this is the time of the year to get outside and get things cleaned up and sorted out. I hope it doesn't turn out to be Lyme disease. Glad you are being proactive though and really making those doctors check you out. The sciatic nerve runs from the back, so it is still a back issue. Many Doctors want nothing to do with chiropractors, but I can't recommend them enough. As Debbie Ray mentioned, ice is your friend. I used to freeze water in a hot water bottle so it made a nice skinny ice pack, and walked around with that tucked in the waistband of my pants along my back.
The pink wheel barrow is cute! We have a big one with two wheels, and I like it for certain things, but other times it is just awkward and I prefer the one wheeled one.
Oh yeah, one last thing. Don't worry about the house work. It can wait. Vacuuming is very hard on your back.

    1. Thank you Karen. After all this wishing and hoping for spring...it is terrible to be shut up inside with back problems. I've just got to try using ice today! About vacuuming...I could not stand all the trash on the living room floor (the dogs track in) and I carefully tried to vacuum. That was a big mistake and I paid dearly for it, in pain!

Love your new pink wheelbarrow! Looks great.
Here's hoping you and Eli can go walking again soon.

  12. The flowering trees outside your windows at least give you some spring to appreciate. They are just beautiful! I hope the doctor will have some answers for you so you can get back outside and enjoy this wonderful weather.

  14. I know it`s hard for someone who cleans constantly to stay put when the house needs cleaning. I just hope you don`t rush your recovery. There`s nothing more important than your health. Eli can wait a little longer. :) Sending a hug, Deb

  16. How I wish you would wake up tomorrow and feel 100% better. But since that's not exactly likely, maybe 60% better? Never hurts to have hope. Like everyone else has said... take it real easy. We're all rooting for you.

  18. Sciatica is a symptom of something else. You need to find out what that "something else" is. I hope you get some good answers and some relief.
And yay for you for actually getting that pink wheelbarrow!

    1. Linda, that is my biggest fear...what is causing this. I think waiting two weeks to see a back doctor is too long. When my regular doctor saw that I could not stand up straight and walk, he should have been more concerned . Thank you Linda.

  19. that rear view of Eli is quite something! Just a lap puppy, right? Hope you stay warm so everything blooms.
