A very hot day!

Wild orange lilies are in bloom everywhere around here!

Dear friends,

Who in the world has time to sit down at the computer at 10:22 on a Monday morning. Surely not me! Actually, I have just walked inside from mowing the back yard.

Can't stay but a minute. I'm cooling off! The temperature is climbing and could reach 100 degrees today! That seems unusually hot for June here in North Carolina?

It is so hard to leave the housework and go outside to work first, but I did just that this morning. As soon as I cool off a bit I'm going up to work in the garden.

Wow!  I'm back and it is HOT in the garden! I managed to work about an hour.

I took this, not so great, picture of the Mimosa tree yesterday. This tree always reminds me of Madison and Michaela about ten years ago, climbing and laughing and hanging by their knees from a limb far up in the tree.

Okay, back to the heat...

Would you look at the volunteer vine, how terribly hot and wilted, but wait...

a little baby gourd. Do you think this is a gourd? Awww, I hope so!

Guess I had better finish the housework. Need to check on BunBun too. I worry about all the animals when the temperature gets up near 100 degrees!!

Appreciate you stopping by.

Love,
Henny

  1. Chilly and rainy here - 60s. Weirdest summer that I can remember. But I still don't envy you your 100 degrees!

    1. Good grief! 60's sound really good right now. It is supposed to be 101 today.

  2. Isn't it horrid ! The heat that is .....
We expect these kind of temperatures in July and August but not the middle of June for goodness sakes.
    My Norseman-blood is frazzled...lol
Love those orange lilies...the deer ate ours.
    Stay hydrated Henny !

    1. It is horrid! I think Tennessee and NC are pretty close weather-wise. I love the orange lilies too. Didn't know the deer would eat them. Take care and keep cool.

  3. It always amazes me when people say, "Oh, they're just ditch lilies." as if they are beneath notice. I find them just beautiful especially in a big vibrant clump. Who could ask for anything more? They take care of themselves and are lovely besides.

Your weather sounds really awful. It's very hot and humid here as well and I can't imagine voluntarily working outside when it's heading up toward 100 with humidity to match..

    1. The orange lilies are beautiful! When I was young I used to pick a big vase full and the next morning the lilies would all be closed up. I love them.

    1. Oh good! A little squash. Well is a squash and gourd the same thing? I'm hoping it will be a BIG gourd. :)

  6. It's very hot here too. I should go out and do some weeding but now that my laundry is done ( it is Monday after all) I am planning on relaxing.

    1. Not at all sure why I didn't go in as Granny Marigold as usual. Something has changed?? Anyway, anonymous is me.

    2. That is strange. Glad you added Granny Marigold. It is too hot to weed! I did go out and mow down a few weeds early this morning.

  7. Hi Henny - Thanks for the happy birthday wish. It's a gorgeous day today and after a little breakfast out all I wanted to do was garden. That's just what I did all day. The wild orange lilies are just about to open up here. They are so pretty. Give Smokey a hug for me. Deb

    1. I don't blame you for gardening all day. It is so much fun working on a new place. Glad you have the wild lilies too. I love them. And, will you hug Audrey for me? :)

  8. Eek! I'm melting in this southern heat! I feel like your volunteer vine looks, and it must be really hard on animals with all their fur. I used to put frozen water bottles in the cages of my angora bunnies on the hottest days as they got so stressed by heat. Don't work so hard, Henny.

    1. Oh Cynthia! I've been thinking about you in this heat and humidity. Big difference in here and Minnesota. It will take some getting used to. Thank you for telling me about the frozen water bottles. I have a couple in the freezer now. Be careful in this heat.

  10. Your flowers are lovely! I'm glad our highest so far has only been 97. With humidity, that is enough for me! It's a cool 87 right now at 5:47 PM, with a nice breeze.
Be careful to drink a lot of fluids. I seem to get dehydrated easily now days.
    Blessings to you all. ♥

    1. 97 with humidity is pretty unbearable! The last few days we have not even had a breeze. Not a leaf on the trees move and that makes the heat even worse. It is easy to get dehydrated in this heat. Take care.

  11. The Day lilies are beautiful. Too hot here for June too. My lawn needs mowing, but my allergies won't let me outside yet, maybe by the weekend.

    1. It really is too hot for June. Mowing is terrible on allergies. I am not bothered with allergies but came in with red eyes after mowing yesterday.

    1. Oh my goodness. I've forgotten what 70 feels like! I hate the cold killed your orange lilies. Those lilies must grow all over the US.
