Didn't quite make it to five years...

That's right. It was February 2018 when the girls at the goat farm gave me little Heidi. I went to buy another goat, but the girls said, you can "have" Heidi, just give her a good home.

My little Heidi passed away last Monday. The vet knew right off that Heidi was very sick

She had deformed jaw bones and deformed horns and probably, the vet said, some internal deformities. He said, you've done good if you have cared for her for five years.

Heidi was a sweetie pie and I am sure missing her. Monday was a sad day.

Isn't it unbelievable how the days fly? It seems like I get nothing done any more. I've cleaned up a little around the garden and moved some plants inside...

We've had record low temperatures lately. Normally, by early November the front yard leaves are raked up and spread over the teeny tiny garden...a warm blanket for the winter, but not this November.

Most of the leaves are off the trees now and I can't resist picking up pretty ones here and there, and aren't these huge Popular leaves neat. I kinda like this picture...

Anyhow, you know the old saying, "if you can't lick 'em, join 'em", well, that's exactly what I am doing with the leaves.

In fact, I had raked one small spot in the front yard just before we had a big wind storm.   Then the guineas decided to wallow holes in the one little raked spot...it looked awful!

Earlier today, I carried my rake and wheelbarrow down to the dam and raked up four loads of pine straw mixed with leaves. I then marched myself back up to the front yard and spread them all! "There you go", I proudly announced. Felt good too. :)

I'm thinking maybe Randall Rabbit and I are best friends now....

Would you look at the size of those back feet...

He's a big lovable sweetie pie rabbit...

and loves old cardboard boxes to push around...

Well friends, I mostly wanted to finish a little post today to wish you all a safe and happy Thanksgiving. Guess it will be just Poppy and me  here...He will hunt while I cook us a little Thanksgiving meal.

Will leave you with a couple of  pictures taken from across the pond that I like.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!

Love, Henny

  16. Dear Henny, I know how much you love and take care of your animals. I am so sorry that you lost Heidi especially here at Thanksgiving time. Do hope you and Poppy have a good Thanksgiving anyway and I am sure that Randall and those two giant dogs will keep you company. You do like your animals on the large size, LOL. It's just the three of us here also husband me and Precious. But sometimes holidays are better spent in small groups. Lynn and Precious XX

  18. Sorry to hear about Heidi but you can comfort yourself by knowing that you provided her a good home and lots of love and care. Randall looks like a real rascal----he is growing by leaps and bounds!

We've had some nice warm weather yesterday and today with predictions of 60's tomorrow. Our new oak tree was planted yesterday------it's so good to have that in place at last. I planted some of the last crocus around the base this afternoon. I think everything that needs to be done toward putting the garden to bed have been done. Now I hope to make some headway in catching up with indoor things that I have been neglecting in favor of outdoor work.

Have a happy "little Thanksgiving". It certainly is easier with just a small crowd to feed rather than moms, dad,, kids, nieces, nephews, cousins and strangers who just sneak in and mingle without being noticed in the crowd. Can you tell I'm not a "people person"?

  22. It sounds like a very peaceful, beautiful Thanksgiving at your cabin. Randall is absolutely delightful! He's so fluffy. I'm sorry about Heidi, but she certainly had a good life with you. I understand about how the days fly by, and I also wonder what in the world I did with my day(s). "I washed some dishes. Did a load of laundry. Painted 2 cards. Hmm. What else did I do?? I know I was busy all day!" Yep!

  26. Goats are such sweet creatures, so lovable. I'm very sorry to hear about Heidi. It does sound like you helped her to have a longer life than what was expected and I know a more loving life than most farm animals. Everyone of your animals are family and may I say, "the best of families" . Heidi was blessed to have a home with you.
It's past Thanksgiving, but not to late to say God bless you and your family and have a happy "every day!"

  28. I like your philosophy, "If you can't beat them, join them!" Randall Rabbit is gorgeous. I can see why he may be your best friend. I am already wishing I had a safe place to put some plants for winter, but it's probably already too late. The Fox Gloves aren't looking too well already.
