Kitties and old dog houses and stuff

Thank you for the nice comments on my "hen" post. The little bitties are doing well, and mama too. No ad on Craigslist, yet anyhow.

You know what Victoria...I would love to set up a table at the road and sell eggs. I believe it would work, but I bet Poppy would say "no". Oh, I delight in doing things like that.

Friends, would you look at this solid color purple Iris...

I found it growing near the little cemetary where our little Weetie is buried.

I do believe this is the prettiest Iris I have ever seen, here anyways. We have Iris spread hither and yon...at some point in the last 30 years I must have slung a bucket of rhizomes out across the yard. Would help if some of the grass and weeds were cleaned out.  Maybe one of these days. :(

The evening sun setting sure makes for some pretty pictures...

I had walked to the kitchen sink to wash my hands and noticed the sun shining on the pink roses and Heidi. Kind of special, I thought.

We've worried so about Eli missing and grieving over little Weetie, but sometimes I think Smokey misses him most of all. Smokey and Weetie were always with me at the garden...

Smokey and Weetie were big buddies. They were the same weight and height and boy did they play together.

Smokey checking out the raggedy old dog house...

It was funny to watch Smokey hiding somewhere waiting for Weetie to come trotting past...

Then Smokey would jump straight up, and the chase was on...

until Smokey went up the side of a tree, leaving Weetie behind. But then, Weetie would lay waiting for Smokey to come back down...payback! There are two old dog houses in the yard and Smokey found a snake in the other one.

Was in the goat lot a little while ago and turning around to close the gate...thought the colors looked pretty...so I got the camera...

The teeny tiny garden is beginning to grow. I've built the wattle fence and used bamboo for tomato stakes (thanks Windy and Brian). I'll post pictures soon.

Can you believe we just came through the wettest winter on record...and now we are having the dryest spring on record. Heard that on the news this week. I'm having to water the garden to keep the plants alive.

Well, that's about it. Hope to be back here real soon.

Love,
Henny

  2. I'm sure Smokey does miss Weetie quite a bit. It is sad because I know you want to help him and he just doesn't understand. Does he ever play with Eli and Ellie?

Henny, your farm always looks so beautiful and inviting! It must be wonderful living there. That purple Iris is just gorgeous! I love flowers that pop up and surprise us like that. I hope you and Poppy are well. I send my love to all of you, furry and feathered friends included. Give Smokey a little love from me!

  3. Animals really to mourn the loss of their playmates and house pals. It's sad.
I think now that should be Weetie's iris, a good way to remember a sweet dog.

  5. A pretty picture really is all about the light, and you captured it perfectly. I love the purple iris. It's the exact same color as my cast. Animals are a lot smarter than people think. I almost wrote that they are smarter than people. Maybe I should have left it at that. :~)

  6. Weetie was so special. Poor Smokey. He misses his good friend. I think that purple iris is a message from Weetie. "I am in Heaven, and I am sending you a royal purple iris so you will know I am with our King." I love all of your photos. Your yard looks natural and lovely. In the photo with the pink wheelbarrow, I can see a light inside the window of your house. It looks so very cozy and special.

Your yard color sure is pretty!

  12. I too saw your post about the chickens first and then the blog about your iris. Yes that's a glorious looking Iris and so are your azaleas. It looks like Heidi was doing well in the background so that answers my question about how she's doing. And since you know I'm a cat person I feel especially bad about Smokey. When we lose a pet and friend the hole is just too large. Thanks for the wonderful photos. Lynn and Precious

  13. Loved your pix today! Always enjoy a tour of your domain...beautiful iris. Do my eyes deceive me, or are those blue
morning glorys??? i'm surprised that they have grown so much this early in the year! The 0 cold spell killed my 25
year old fig tree, so plan on planting morning glorys to climb all those 15 ft. dead branches. Wish me luck....

  14. Good morning! The pictures on your blog today are so pretty. I like the last few the best that show part of your house. Just lovely. We had a dog and a cat that were puppy and kitten together. The dog acted like a cat much of the time and vice versa. When our dog Annie died the cat would roam the house yeowling all night long. I asked the vet what we could do about it and he said he was greiving for Annie. He suggested getting George, the cat, a dog. I could see that circle continuing into infinity! :-). They seem to feel the same feelings we do and miss each other dreadfully. I hope he feels better soon.
    Blessings and hugs,
    Betsy

  15. Oh I agree, the evening with the sun going down make for great photos.
That sure is a beautiful iris!!
Sounds like Smokey is missing Weetie - they sure had a lot of fun.

  16. Such a deep purple, is your iris. So beautiful. I love the photo of Heidi peeking out from behind the rose bush. I bet she would like to nibble a taste of it. Poor Smoky, no little dog to pounce on. Eli and Ellie are probably a little large for such games with a cat.

  17. Love the color of that Iris! And I too find that sometimes you can look out and see something so beautiful (like the evening sun coming through the trees in our backyard) but sometimes the camera just doesn't show the beauty that my eyes see. Your Smokey reminds me so of our lost Ghost...

  18. Like all the other comments I think that dark Iris is beautiful. I think it's even darker than my darkest one ( which just opened this week). The Rose bush is so full of lovely pink flowers. I love it.
I hope you're keeping well, GM

  20. The garden is so beautiful. I want those irises, stunning color and the pink roses are heavenly.
Oh could we please have some Ellie pictures, puppies grow so fast.

  21. I have some Irises that are dark purple like that and smell like grape Kool-aid! I love them. Mine are blooming now, too. I'm so sorry to hear about Weetie. I haven't been on Blogspot as much as I would like. Too many other "things" going on, but I hope to be a more frequent contributor. It's so wonderful to see your garden evolving. Your roses are so beautiful. Ellie is beautiful, too! Thanks for stopping by my blog...

  22. Oh your purple iris is gorgeous. Maybe it is blooming special to honor Weetie. Your entire garden is beautiful. I love the pink wheelbarrow. Have a wonderful week. Hugs!

  23. How lovely the iris looks! It is hard on animals just as it is us, when they lose a play companion. I hope happier days come for them. Thank you always for asking about how are son is doing. He is doing very well and is back to his work and regular routine. You are so thoughtful

  26. Such lovely photos! And I LOVE the pink wheelbarrow! I didn't know they made them! Got to get me one of those!! I loved reading about Smokey and Weetie. They were true pals...

  27. I enjoyed the stories about Weetie and Smokey. When our dog passed, our cat Max, he also missed Molly. They liked to play too. It is nice to remissness, they will forever be in our hearts.

  28. I've had to water a lot too, HP. So so dry. We got a gully-washer yesterday though, and I was very thankful. I don't have much in the veggie garden this year, but I was watering my herb bed and some perennials too.
Smokey is so sweet. It must be hard to lose such a good friend.
