HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY

Flowers in the dead of winter!

isn't that what Olivia said to her husband John Walton when he made it home through a blizzard late on Christmas Eve. He handed her a bouquet of cut flowers.

Well, these beautiful flowers are from Poppy, to me for Valentine's Day.

I've never seen so many different flowers in one bouquet...

Why, I've taken about 25 pictures and none of them show their true beauty...

My plan was to do a quick post early this morning and say "Happy Valentine's Day" but...

again today I haven't felt well. Not sure what's going on so I will probably call the doctor tomorrow.

Oh, my GOOD NEWS! Little Heidi is standing on all four feet, even walking around. She wants out of the little stall she is in but with all the rain, and Rosie, being the little bully that she is,  I feel Heidi is safer there. Hopefully the rain will stop soon.

And a bit of SAD NEWS too...Our oldest hen died yesterday. She was very special...

this was her when she was just a baby. Our neighbor came knocking at the door early one morning a few years ago. He handed me the little black chick and asked if I could raise it.

There was a bad storm the night before. Some animal had killed the mother hen and this little chick made it through the night alone.

She has been a sweet hen...

and even raised a few chicks of her own. We will miss her.

Guess I need to stop here.  Poppy just asked if we are having ice cream tonight.

Hope you all have had a nice weekend and a Happy Valentine's Day!

Love, Henny

  2. Wishing you a Happy Valentine's Day too! That's wonderful news about Heidi standing up on all fours. Yay Heidi! I would never think goats could be mean. When I watch my neighbor's goats, there is a definite pecking order, especially when I throw goodies over the fence to them. The two dominant females are butting and pushing the other ones away. Condolences for your sweet hen. You gave her a wonderful life. {{hugs}}

    1. Thank you Lisa. I let Heidi outside for a while today and had to watch Rosie. She wanted to butt Heidi.

  5. Your flowers are really beautiful, how could you possibly just take one photo? How lovely and how nice to get to enjoy this touch of spring in the middle of winter!

And on a sad note, I'm sorry about the loss of your treasured hen. You were there for her at such a vulnerable time in her life, and you gave her safety and you gave her a good life. She knew love. And I know she'll be missed.

  6. That's a beautiful bouquet. Yes, I just watched that Walton movie in December, so fun to see the kids all so little. Good news about Heidi and keeping her away from bossy Rosie is a good idea at least until she can stand her ground. Sorry about you beautiful black hen-----hard to see something that you have raised from such a baby go. Take care of yourself and let us know what the Dr. has to say.

Enjoy that ice cream and the bouquet. Give Poppy a big kiss for that beauty.

  7. Those are beautiful flowers. :-)
Hope your rain turns into good weather and not snow.
We are under a hard freeze warning until Tuesday afternoon.
    God bless.

  8. Happy Valentine's Day to you and Poppy! What a beautiful bouquet of flowers he brought you....and you quoted a line from my favorite Walton's Show too! I remember that so well! I'm so happy to hear about your Heidi goat and sad to hear about your Mama Hen. May the days get better and the rain stop soon. Tonight is our coldest and then we're supposed to start warming up. Can't wait! Take good care!

    1. Thank you Diane. I saw that old Walton's movie again this year too. Warming up sounds good! We have more rain coming in overnight with a chance of a thunderstorm. And we just may see a bit of sunshine tomorrow. Yay!

  9. I hope you get to feeling better real soon. I hate being sick. I don't know why, but it makes me mad and frustrated. Your flowers are absolutely gorgeous. Poppy did good! I love brightly colored flowers. I hope your rain doesn't turn to anything worse with these storm systems moving across the country. It's snowing tonight in San Antonio and Houston has sleet and snow. Here in St Louis we're at an even 0.0 degrees on my digital thermometer and we're expecting about 7 inches of snow by dinner time Monday. Take good care of yourself and let us know what's what. We care.

I am praying for you to be completely well when you wake up tomorrow, but let us know what the doctor says, okay. Lots of people out here in blogland care for you.

    1. Thank you Willie. A nice big pizza sounds wonderful! I'm not so sure about the movie. :) Rosie is spoiled, not really mean. Poppy made her this way by playing with her. She thinks it's fun to stand on her back legs and butt...she like to fight, in a gentle way.

  16. You get good news on Heidi and then sad news on the black hen. It doesn't seem fair to lose one pet like that.
The flowers are definitely a pick me upper. Maybe on reason Valentines Day is in February? At least it is a
fun cheerful holiday that doesn't require a lot of decorating or meal planning. Wish you were feeling back to usual.

  17. Hope you had a love-full day, Henny, and that you are feeling better today. I’m sorry about your hen. I remember when your neighbor brought her. I wish our animals could live forever! We get so attached. Great news on the goat front, though, and I hope she continues to get better and better.

  18. Happy Valentine's day Henny! Your flowers are beautiful. Our neighbors brought us a Valentine bouquet yesterday. We are in the middle of that Arctic weather and they knew us 'old folks' wouldn't be going out. So they asked us if we needed any groceries as they were heading out and returned with flowers for us. So sweet. I'm sorry to hear about your hen dying. Our daughter has chickens and she was worried about how they will do in these single digit temps.

  27. Beautiful flowers. Poppy did good. So glad to hear little Heidi is up and about. So sorry about your sweet hen. It's never easy to lose a pet but we are so blessed to share their lives and their unconditional love. Hope you get to feeling better soon.

I am a born and raised Oklahoma girl but living in Texas where the whole state is in a state of emergency. We are having record breaking temps and snow. Hasn't been above freezing since last Thursday. The power grid is stressed so many are without power. I'm not a fan of Winter anyway but they say this is the coldest they have been here in 50 years. It's brutal.

    1. Thank you Oklahoma Girl. Oh, I have been hearing about the weather in Texas and feel so sorry for everyone there. I hope and pray you all will be safe and this weather pattern changes for the better. Wish there was something I could do to help, but I will be thinking about you.

    2. I'm in West Texas and it is bad but it's much worse down in South Texas. They are not used to this kind of weather at all. We are at least used to very cold temps and snow a couple times a year but we aren't used to the days on end of negative temps. Our city is doing very well considering the situation. All city water is on generators and that's taking a lot of stress off our power grid. They are doing rolling blackouts so at least everyone will not be without power for hours or days. We are holding up good but the southern part of Texas is really suffering. I have a cousin who lives in Houston and they were out of power for 42 hours. Thank you for your kind thoughts.
