Special note from me, Henny

Hey friends! Just wondering, do you ever look back at something you've posted and think, "oh no"!  Well, recently, I noticed a comment that I did not reply to, right there in the middle of other comments that I did reply to. I completely skipped over someone, which makes me feel awful. If I have ever slighted any one of you, it was not intentional. I love and appreciate your friendship so much.

Maybe now I will have the heart to move on.

and I promise, not a garden post, well, not exactly.

but it is about those two rows of corn in the teeny tiny garden that grew pretty but had tasteless, sticky ears of corn...
turns out, it was all worth the trouble.

After picking the ears of corn and throwing them into the chicken lot, I pulled the corn stalks and spread them under the shed to dry, then yesterday bundled the stalks together with a bow and...

a little Fall display...such as it is. The whole thing is a little skimpy looking around the bottom but when Poppy gets off work at the deer processing plant this morning, (yes, that dreaded deer season is here again!) he will go by Mr. Murphy's hay farm to buy hay and pick up a bale of wheat straw.  Don't tell Poppy, but I may need another big pumpkin and a couple more pots of Mums too.

and speaking of Murphy's farm, remember the shy, 3000 lb. bull? What a cutie pie he was...

anyhow...
the early morning sun made pretty shadows on the house this morning, and how neat that the moon was still visible way up there in the sky. That homemade flag pole has predator lights at the top to frighten away owls, a guinea's worst nightmare.

The guineas roost in the top of a tall cedar tree. Owls usually attack just before daylight or right after dark. Last night when I was out closing the chickens up for the night, there was a screech owl close by. What an eerie sound it makes.

oh wait!!
is that Poppy's truck we hear??

it was Poppy, and he brought the hay and the wheat straw. The little spot still needs something. Maybe Walmart has that something. We'll see.

Okay, I'm ending here. :)

Love,
Henny

  1. Oh, I don't think your fall display needs anything. Its perfect just the way it is! I got my fall decorations out of the attic this past weekend and put them out. I'm not sure why I still go to all that trouble, just habit I guess. It does make me feel good to see it all and think maybe fall weather is finally coming and this awful hot, humid weather is coming to an end!

    1. Thank you Diane. Your weather sounds like ours. It still feels like August here. No fall weather in sight, and now they're saying this hot humid weather will be with us until the middle of October. It will probably jump from summer right into winter.

  3. I could not imagine anyone ever feeling slighted by you Henny! Why you are just about the kindest person around! I love your Fall display, it looks perfect just the way it is now. It sounds like that corn was worthwhile after all - you got a beautiful Fall display and the chickens got some good meals. I remember hearing screech owls when I was a child. They can just make your blood run cold! Take care Henny and thank you for being here.

    1. Oh, thank you Bonnie. The first night I heard that screech owl, I ran in and got Poppy. It was a scary sound, like something from Halloween. :)

  5. Hi Henny: I really enjoyed your post tonight. First i have to say that you have the most beautiful head of hair. Wow!
And I love corn stalks for decor in the fall. Your display is perfect; very festive. I bought a bundle of 12 ro decorate around the bird houses this year. :) I love how dogs get so excited when their people come home. Sweet Eli and Wheaty. I think of how Kane would run in circles when Gary arrived home. Sweet memories.I hope you are enjoying the first of Fall. It is quite cool here in Ontario but I hear we are getting warmer weather for the long weekend (It's our Thanksgiving Oct. 8) Sending hugs to all. Wilson and Annie are waving. :)

    1. Thank you Deb. I've got a head of hair that I can't do anything with, most of the time. Oh, I can picture sweet Kane excited and running in circles. Dogs are so sweet and sure make us feel special. I can also picture Wilson and Annie waving. :) In case I don't talk to you again before the 8th, have a happy happy Thanksgiving!!

I love your fall decorations Henny. They look just great. Well...maybe I shouldn't say that...because you never do know what you'll find at Wally World! Your Poppy is so nice to help you with your decorations and all. You make a great team. I love the dogs watching for his truck to come into the driveway too. Such a fun blog you have!!!

    1. Oh, thank you Diane. You're right about Wally World. Trouble is, everybody in town goes there and buys the same things. :) Guess that is why natural things are the prettiest.

  9. Your Fall decorations look great, Henny Penny. The corn was useful for something, at least, even if it didn't taste like much. I can imagine how the hens loved it.

    1. Hey sweetie pie! I figured you already had pumpkins and cornstalks all fixed up. You are good at things like that. Grandma used to talk about what a pretty place you have and what pretty flowers you grow. I love you!!

  11. Yes! I agree..the corn display looks really great...!
Even better with the bale of hay..sets it off really well..!
And pumpkins, soon be that time again..everybody going 'Boo'
HeHe! I hope everybody, like myself does'nt throw away the contents
of a pumpkin..but uses it as food, even the seeds..wash them, place
them on a roasting tray, and pop them in the oven...! :).

And..One thing l admire there in the U.S. of A...is how you all fly
your flags with pride..over here, you hardly see a flag anywhere,
but, l'm out first thing, every morning and raise my Italian Red,
White and Green..My Sicilian flag on Sundays..! :).

Goodness me! It's a good job your only showing the Bull's head,
judging by the size of him..he must huge..! Lovely looking animal..!
    Moooooo!!!

Well best get on, just gone seven over here, time for a second lemon
tea..dentist this morning..teeth are o.k. but the gums have to come
    out...HeHe! :). (=ඒᆽඒ=)

    1. Oh Willie, I do enjoy your comments! I'm so glad you reminded me about not wasting the pumpkin. I don't want it to sit there and rot. Roasted pumpkin seeds sound good. Our flag pole is a little tacky, but I love seeing the flag there. Flags are beautiful. I will Google "Sicilian flag" to see how pretty it is. Good luck with the dentist.

  13. Love that fall display, apart from the straw bale I either have everything or can get it easily. I may well do a copy cat version at the front of my house at the weekend. The farmers round here do not grow much wheat and any straw is baled up into huge plastic wrapped round bales. Stacked up they look like giant cheese wheels.

    1. Thank you Pam. That fall display will be pretty in front of your house. I rarely buy wheat straw, but when we take down the fall decorations, we can use the straw in the chicken house this winter.

  14. Hi Henny- Your Fall Display looks terrific near the Wishing Well...just love Hay Bales and Pumpkins. Thank you for taking a look at my latest Post- so far going well on my Shed make-over. Plenty of painting to-day, with more to do tomorrow. Rain is forecast for the next few days here and this is great- as most of our State (New South Wales) has been in severe Drought- particularly the inland Farms.
I've also been doing a bit of a 'Spring-Cleaning' in my Shed as I go along...it should all turn out pretty well for my Seaside Display. Best Wishes to You and Poppy. KEV.

    1. Thank you Kev. I'm so glad you will be getting that much needed rain. Maybe you can get lots of painting done before the rain arrives. Don't you love fixing up a shed, or any kind of little building. I sure do.

    2. Yes Henny- fixing up things like a Shed is good and enjoyable- it is good for uplifting your spirits and refreshing your objectives. Rain has set in -not heavy though nice and steady- it is all good. Regards. KEV.

  15. your fall display looks great. We put pumpkins out too. Some critters eat them, usually. We think it might be squirrels but we have never seen the culprits in action. We have a landscape place that sells HUGE mums for only $6 each or 5 for $25. I bought 5 and planted them near the pond. I wanted to make that area maintenance free, but our hot, humid, rainy summer kept me inside too much. The first time I heard a screech owl, it woke me up thinking a woman was being attacked. Luckily Terry knew it was the owl or I would have been on the phone to 911.

Have a great day. It was a nice visit with you.
    xx, Carol

    1. Thank you Carol. I didn't know critters would maybe eat the pumpkin. We have lots of squirrels and deer, well possums and raccoons too. Would not surprise me look out one morning and the pumpkin be gone. :) That is really a good price for the mums. I paid 4.97 each for these at Walmart, but these are small. I really want a couple of nice big ones.

  16. Oh dear, when I read the heading for this post, I assumed the worst and that you were saying goodbye to Blogland-- big relief that you are not and some giggles that I even thought that... Don't know where my head is this morning.
Beautiful photos, especially of yourself at what looks like a built-in secretary! So pretty, is that in your brambly hedge room? And the baby bull is very sweet.
I love the corn and hay display, autumn is so lovely for decorating although it's too bad your weather is still not seasonal. Blessings!

    1. Oh Pilar, thank you. You are so nice. That big bull looked shy, but when he did come out from behind the building, Mr. Murphy said, I wouldn't get too close to the fence. Can you imagine that coming through the fence!

  17. I have never had any fodder shocks of my own to use for fall decorations and I have been known to go to great lengths to find them. How nice that your poor little corn crop turned out to be a lovely player in your fall display! I hope to get a me some mums this weekend at my weekly trip to Walmart. And I cannot imagine you ever offending anyone. Enjoy the rest of your week!

    1. Hey Debby. I had forgotten about the word 'fodder'. Daddy used to talk about pulling fodder. :) I just might have to plant a little corn crop next year too, just for the stalks. Thank you, and you have a good week too.
