Deb, I laughed every time I thought about you telling me to come home from the Fair in one piece...Just picturing Shelby and me ripping and tearing and getting on all those rides at the Fair, and coming home all broken up. (Deb, at justcats-deb.blogspot.com left me a comment saying to come home in one piece)
As bad as I hate to admit it, we didn't ride the carousel! Oh, we hummed and hawed, we studied and discussed it, and watched group after group fill up the hobby horses and gallop round past us while I stood wondering if I would be able to put one foot in the stirrup, pull myself up, and throw my leg over the horse...and could I dismount without ending up on the floor under the horse? So, maybe next year.
The carousel picture was from the Fair in 2015 and that's Shelby in front. Can't believe I didn't take any pictures of the rides this year.
But, this picture...
would you just look at that playhouse! Well, it's not a playhouse, but the set-up of fence panels reminds me of my playhouse. Oh my gosh! Could I do that here??
We looked at the sweet animals...
and the funny ones...
and one I wanted to take home...
There were lots of new sections added this year...
Pretty, but many of the old things were gone.
one of our favorite places to sit.
This is the entrance to the Fair.
Guess that's about it. Sure sorry there is no picture of me on a hobby horse.
Thank you for visiting.
Love,
Henny
P.S. Forgot to mention how much fun we had. A day at the State Fair with Shelby is always fun. We walked and talked and laughed. We ate fried dough and funnel cake and NC State Butter Almond ice cream. We sampled hush puppies and chips, and peanuts. We sat and watched people. I am already looking forward to the Fair next year.
Well, I'm glad you listened to me. haha! You are so funny. :) And that donkey *love* would have been my favorite, too.
ReplyDeleteI did!! Not much chance of me getting hurt on a ride at the fair! :)
DeleteYour fair ground is beautiful, it would be fun just sitting and people watching. Sounds like you sampled a lot of great fair food, too. It's great that the two of you went together and had so much fun:)
ReplyDeleteOh, we could have spent the day watching people. :) and eating!
DeleteI do wish I lived close enough to Raleigh to go the the State Fair. We have a smaller regional fair out here on the coast, but not nearly so pretty as yours. I'm used to a fair being rides and animals, but I love all the green places, the buildings and walkways your photos show. So pretty! Glad you got to "eat your way along the midway," as they say. Those are all the best foods!!
ReplyDeleteThank you. Wish you could have been there. They really do have some beautiful spots and walkways at this fair. I should have taken more pictures of the rides and the midway.
DeleteSo lots of good fun at the fair. Everybody should get out to the fair and have fun.
ReplyDeleteOh, I think so too!
DeleteSounds like you did all the stuff people are supposed to do at a fair, especially eating, with the exception of getting on that carousel. Oh well, you had fun anyway.
ReplyDeleteI've been mad at myself for not riding a hobby horse since we walked out the gate at the end of the day! We did have fun.
DeleteThe most important thing is that you had fun!!
ReplyDeleteThat is so true, and we did!
Deletethose piglets are pretty big now
ReplyDeleteor will be soon! :)
DeleteWe haven't been to our State Fair in so long - not even to the county fair, but your post has brought back memories of the fun times we used to have at the fair with our kiddos! The playhouse picture is just lovely; lots of inspiration, for sure!
ReplyDeleteShelby and I have been crazy about going to the fair since we were children.
DeleteIt seems from your pictures that your fair is not as commercialized as most fairs are these day...and that's meant as a compliment! So many fairs are too busy and bustling with too much activity going on. Don't mean to sound like an old biddy, but fairs were just more intimate in the olden days. Next year you and your sis need to "Ride 'Em!"
ReplyDeleteOh gosh, I should have taken pictures of the midway and the crowds. It was unbelievable! Most people I've seen at the state fair. Just wait til next year!!! :)
DeleteThe area of where your fair is, is gorgeous. Love the scenery! I missed out on our fair this year, due to sickness, but the scenery at our is pretty bland. Looks like fun!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry you were sick and didn't get to the fair. There were beautiful flowers and walkways and lots to see.
DeleteSeeing all the animals is my favorite fair activity, ooh and the food :)
ReplyDeleteLooks like you had a lovely time Henny :)
Thank you for sharing your pictures.
Hugs,
~Jo
We love looking at the animals, and all the vegetables, and blue ribbon winners. It was fun!
DeleteGlad to hear you had such a good time at the fair. I was hoping to see you up on one of those horses this year. : )
ReplyDeleteSounds like lots of good things to eat!!
Thank you! I know, I am very disappointed in myself. :(
DeleteHaven't been to a fair in years so I really enjoyed your post.
ReplyDeleteThank you. You need to go back. The food is great! :)
DeleteFairs are so much fun 😊😊
ReplyDeleteOh, fairs are fun!!!
DeleteLoved the sound of all that scrumptious food. Sounds like a great day out, fun, laughter and good company what could be better?
ReplyDeleteIt was a good day. One I hated to see end.
DeleteOh, how nice! Thank you for sharing the fair with us, Henny. I LOVE donkeys, too! Hee haw! They are so cute! I love their pretty faces and their loud mouth ways.
ReplyDeleteHey Pom Pom! I know. Guess I will always wish for a donkey.
DeleteFUN!! What a fun time. Thank you for sharing. Hey, next time bring back samples of the fair food for us. ;-) Hee Hee!
ReplyDeleteWish I could have brought back samples. :) Wish you could have been with us!
DeleteI haven't been to a state fair for longer than I can remember. It sounds like you and Shelby had a fun day. But, you should have ridden the carousel! I'm older than you and managed to climb on the back of a motorcycle and get off again a few weeks ago. I must admit, though, that getting on was easier than getting off. Seize the moment! Every time we go to Silver Dollar City we have to get funnel cakes. YUM! That ice cream sounds wonderful, too.
ReplyDeleteOh Peg, getting on a horse on a carousel sounds easier than getting on a motorcycle...and safer. I rode with my brother once, on the back of his motorcycle, but that was years ago. I'm so mad at myself for not getting on that horse!! Maybe there will be next year. :)
DeleteWell, no carousel ride but you had fun and that was the whole point. The piglets are so cute. Makes me think of that Masterpiece
ReplyDeleteTheatre showing of All Creatures Great and Small. If you saw it you probably remember rich Mrs. Pomfrey with the little pekinese dog. Remember when she got the little piglet and had the vet come to check him out and, cuddling the piglet in her arms, asked, "Do you think he'll get very big?" They are SO cute when little but DO get quite large in later life.
Oh Vic, and I had such big plans of posting a picture of myself on that horse! I'm such a chicken! Would you believe that I've never seen "All Creatures Great and Small"! Now I've got to see it! Bet I could get it from Amazon. We watched those little pigs for a long time. They were so funny shoving each other out of the way and squealing. They were so cute!
DeleteOh, what a fun day it sounds like you had! Darling little garden and your play house will look like that soon! Nancy
ReplyDeleteIt was a fun day. I am already looking forward to next spring and working on the playhouse.
DeleteWhat no chariots to sit on and ride the Merry Go Round? Maybe next year! I am glad you went and had fun and came back in one piece:)
ReplyDeleteWell, there were chariots to sit on, but I wanted to do something more daring!! Yeah right!! :)
DeleteLove the pictures! The food and people watching would be great fun for me! lol
ReplyDeleteWishing you a delightful afternoon.
Oh you are young! I'm sure you could have gotten on a horse!
ReplyDeleteI did, years ago, when our old carousel was refurbished and re-opened. Not with grace and smoothness, but I did it. You, certainly could have!
Glad you enjoyed the fair.
ReplyDeleteBlessings~
I think you COULD make that garden / playhouse at your place !
ReplyDeleteI love the fair and your's looks like a very nice one to attend. Glad you made it home in one piece, must be because you didn't ride the carousel. :)
Country Fairs are the best...thanks for your recent comment on my blog...to answer your question about the farm, yes, I did finish the farm house and lived there about 15 years. I still miss it...
