R.I.P.
"Big Boy" aka "Mr. Rooster".
Big Boy died this morning. He had been doing poorly these last few days.
Most of you, my blogging friends, knew Big Boy. I've posted about him many times...
Most of you, my blogging friends, knew Big Boy. I've posted about him many times...
He will surely be missed, as he was always by my side whether up at the garden or down near the pond.
Big Boy was the kindest, sweetest rooster in the neighborhood. He was always the first one out to greet a visitor, or anybody getting out of their car here in our driveway.
and was especially fond of our neighbor Ann as she brought him bread. Most of the time I had to tell him to "move back" so she could shut her car door.
He waited patiently for me as I fed the other animals.
He fathered and helped raise many baby chicks here on Henny Penny Lane.
Then...once upon a time Big Boy became famous, and got his picture painted by an artist from way out in California...
Yes, Pam saw Big Boy on my blog...
in 2013, painted his picture and sent it to me. We love the painting and see it every day as it is displayed in the bookcase in our living room...
It will be even more appreciated now. Thank you again, Pam.
Better go now. Thank you for listening.
It won't be the same around here without our friend, Big Boy.
Love,
Henny
It is so sad when an animal friend passes. There is a hole left in the heart, then slowly, the hole is filled with warm memories. Take care of yourself and your other critter friends. Say "Hi" to Smokey.
ReplyDeleteHugs to your other kitties and a pat on the head for the pups.
Aw Henny, I'm sorry to read of his passing. I don't know the first thing about raising chickens and roosters but I have enjoyed watching and learning about them on your blog and I always thought Big Boy was so handsome. I'm wondering how old he was and did he live a full rooster life. I know he had a wonderful home and obviously was very attached to you. Bless his heart. I know how hard it is to lose a little friend. His painting will be a treasure now. xo
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry to hear about Big Boy. He sounds like he was a good friend to all and will be missed. You do have some wonderful memories of him and I hope they will soften the pain of his loss. Sending hugs and warm thoughts to you all.
ReplyDeleteOoh Henny, I'm so sad to read this. Big Boy was certainly that, but didn't use his size to bully or boast, just a kind friend to all of his farm companions and humans alike.
ReplyDeleteSo very sorry.
Hugs,
~Jo
How sad, but I know you gave him a good life. I'm betting he was one happy rooster. Hope the hens don't miss him too much.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry . . . he did spend his live in a very good home, that you can be sure and certain of. Your animals are all loved and have good lives. I'm happy that you have that painting to remember him, now it is more of a treasure than ever before :)
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear about Big Boy, he will be missed.
ReplyDeleteOhhhh I am so sad, that you have lost your Dear Friend....
ReplyDeleteDon't think I have ever heard, of such a delightful rooster. They usually have the reputation, of being rather nasty, I think.
Wonderful that you have that amazing painting of him. And of course, you have your memories too.
Many gentle hugs,
Luna Crone
He was the best! {{{hug}}}
ReplyDeleteAww, he was a very special rooster. Glad you have the lovely painting of him! How long was he at your place?
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear that Big Boy has died. You will surely miss him. Someone commented that most roosters tend to be on the fierce side. Mr. Rooster was definitely an exception. Nice that you have the painting of him.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry, Henny.😢
ReplyDeleteI know how hard it must be to lose such a special friend. Hope time eases your loss.
ReplyDeleteOh dear, I am so very sorry to read about Big Boy no longer being with you. He certainly was a special boy. Try to remember what a most wonderful life he had there with you at Henny Penny Lane.

ReplyDeleteIt is always heart wrenching to lose a companion, enjoy your memories and your painting. Will one of his offspring be there to help fill the gap.
ReplyDeleteawww sorry for your loss!
ReplyDeletehe certainly was a splendid looking rooster & love the painting! what a thoughtful gift!
thanx for sharing
Sorry for your loss, but at least he was rare in his own species. Most chickens end up as food and never die naturally
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry for your loss, Big Boy was definitely a wonderful pet. I love that he followed you everywhere and greeted many. How very special!
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear about Big Boy. I know you will miss him. Love you bunches!

ReplyDeleteDear Henny,
ReplyDeleteI am sorry to hear about Big Boy, he has a special place in my heart and I feel that I got to know him as I painted his elegant body and perfect feathers. My only rooster portrait, he was quite an inspiration. I know you will be missing him around the teeny tiny farm, and, like some of your other readers, I hope one of his offspring will someday fill his role as your companion/escort. Blessing to all.
So sorry, Henny; I know he was loved, he lived a long life and surely lived a better life than most -- he was certainly a beautiful boy! I am sorry you have to go through sorrow at this time, but he was one of a kind and lucky to live his life with your family. Many blessings and prayers for you - Terry
