Two big reveals!

Got everything ready for our salad tonight and noticed that Poppy had dozed off in front of the TV so, wonder if I could tell you about the day...

Poppy put the shingles on the long legged tower. It looks good, it really does. But after getting the shingles on, we wondered what to do about a ridge cap. Poppy ran up to Rustic Building Supply and yep, they had one. A ten foot one. We only needed thirty seven inches. "You know what I had to pay for for this thing", Poppy said. "Seventeen dollars"!

What do you think? You know, all this is really unnecessary, but it makes me so happy.

Poppy brought home three odd sized wooden pallets from the grocery store, they were going to throw away. I see a potting bench in the making! It would be so cute painted this cedar color and placed on the left side of these long legs...

which would be here, in the shade.

Now I rarely post pictures of myself, but, Granny Marigold since you asked to see my new perm and since I washed my hair yesterday, and let it dry, then combed it out...well brace yourself...

Poppy said, "you look like Tina Turner". That's okay, I like Tina Turner. Wish I had legs like Tina Turner. A week or so and this perm will relax and I'll be back to normal.

When I was growing up, way back then, perms were called permanents. Isn't that funny!

This wasn't planned, but seems like now with every post there is a new special kitty cat picture. So here's my kitty cat picture of the day...

Smokey watched our every move up at the garden this morning, then decided to race with Weetie back to the house...

Guess it's time to put supper on the table. Hope to see you back here soon.

Love,
Henny

  1. I really like your tower and the way you hung the birdhouse and wreath are adorable. The idea of incorporating it with a potting bench sounds charming. I haven't had a perm in years, but I do enjoy the fullest it adds to my hair when I have one . . . now you have we thinking about it :)
Have a wonderful Memorial Day weekend.
    Connie :)

  2. Thank you for posting the picture of your lovely self with your lovely hair!! I can only imagine how long it took the hairdresser ( do they still call them that?). I do remember when we had "permanents" and I am also old enough to remember when those permanents were done with a truly scary machine that had clamps that attached to each curler. This machine actually got plugged in and heated up. I doubt very many people experienced that.

  3. Your tower is coming along nicely. I know you will enjoy your time there this summer. Poppy is probably enjoying every minute being your construction worker. lol Your hair looks nice, Henny. Even with a perm my hair would never look that thick. I had a few back in the day. "Hi Smokey. What big eyes you have tonight."

  4. I've never had that many curls in my whole life, let alone at one time. The tall towel is looking better. I do like the potting bench idea. You're getting there.

  5. Tom built our potting bench out of pallet wood. It's a good repurposing project.
    I guess it's a good thing permanents aren't permanent.

  6. The tower looks amazing and the added touches gives it great appeal. A bench would be the perfect finish.

  7. Our Smokey likes the picture of your Smokey! LOL Oh yes, I do remember the perms, home perms and salon perms and yes they called them "permanents" and back in my Ma-maw's generation I think they called them "permanent waves". I also definetly remember my first home perm...it was called "Tonette by Toni" . My mom gave me those for years as I was growing up. I had very fine straight hair. Did you ever get a Tonette? they were made just for little girls

  10. In our family, a humid summer day is about all we need to achieve that kind of hair volume. Funny, people with straight hair wish for curly, and curly-haired people dream of the opposite!
So who won the race back to the house?

  11. I remember the very first perm I ever had. I was about 9 years old and it was the old fashioned kind with the rods that had wires attached to them. It looked just about as curly as yours! I do like your long legged thingy. Quite cute! Have a great weekend.

  12. "You know, all this is really unnecessary, but it makes me so happy"

Well I think that making another person happy (without spoiling them) is a great necessity----it's a reflection of your love for them. Generally speaking there is not enough happiness floating around in the world and any that we can manufacture for others is a definite plus.

I love your ideas. One project inevitably leads into another. It keeps life interesting.

  13. Like the commercial on TV says...PRICELESS. Unless you're Poppy, then it's $17. Love how your little tower is coming along. Maybe you should've made it bigger. If you want inspiration on decorating it, stop by Home Is Where The Boat Is blog. Be careful though, as soon poor Poppy will be building a shed and making the tower the entrance! https://homeiswheretheboatis.net/

    1. Hey Sharon! I will look at that blog. Thank you. I keep forgetting to mention that the legs to the tall tower are buried in the ground. It's pretty sturdy and not likely to fall.

  14. I've missed something -- what are you using the tower for ?(uh-oh, that was incredibly ungrammatical)

I so enjoy photos of your garden and sheds - more please.

    1. Hey Janet. It is just another idea of mine, something to work on. The little roof was laying in the woods rotting and I thought it would be cute as an entrance to the greenhouse.

  15. I quite like your tower, $17 seems a fair investment. Love your perm, my what lovely thick hair you have. Mine is thin and baby fine, no perms for me, they just frizz.

  16. Glad to see the sun is shining on you, your new perm, and the teeny tiny farm! Speaking of your curls and Tina Turner, I think John Denver had a comment that "legs like hers we're why God invented high heels!" Maybe you can call the new, long legged greenhouse entrance The TinaTurnerTower.

  17. The tower is looking good, a potting bench will put the icing on the cake. I love the animal shots and wow, that is a lot of curls and very lush it looks.

  18. I actually know very little of Tina Turner

  19. Oh girl, that hair is what I deal with every day! LoL My stylist daughter tells me all the time that people pay a lot of money for my kind of hair. I love my curls but recently I had my daughter cut it and it looks 100% better when I straighten it! It won't be long until it is long again and I will leave it to it's natural state! Kink-tastic! LoL I love how the tower is coming along and I think a potting bench would be awesome!

    Grace & Peace

  21. I like the tower. It looks so nice.
Where did you purchase your greenhouse? It looks like a quality greenhouse.

I have naturally curly hair. On humid days, oh my! ;-) I do like my curls, at times they can drive me crazy. But I am blessed with my curly hair. :-)

    Have a blessed Memorial Day,
    Carla

    1. Hey Carla! We bought the little greenhouse at Harbor Freight in Raleigh. It was around 300.00 and has held up really good. I envy your naturally curly hair. My hair has a natural wave...but I love curls!

  22. The tower is looking good! A potting bench will be really handy. I'm always sitting on the floor on the deck to repot something or other with two dogs being pests because they are curious about what I'm doing. You certainly do have curls! I'm learning curls are the best thing to have in the South in summer weather, easiest to take care of, so you are smart.

  23. I saw a long legged tower the other day and thought of you! They put two x braces on each side and hung up flower baskets! :)
