What I forgot to tell you and my onion crop!

Actually I had something worth telling you in my post on Monday, but forgot.

Seeing as how I am definitely not a writer, the need for me to post more pictures and less words is necessary for a halfway decent post. And seeing as how what I wanted to tell you on Monday was about a dog, that gave me the opportunity to post my latest pictures of Eli and Weetie then lead into my dog story...except at that point  I forgot to add the dog story. :)

So here is old sleepy head again, showing off his pink skin and a disheveled living room.

Had to run to Walmart for a few things on Monday (that sentence speaks volumes, doesn't it?). It was near noon and blistering hot in the parking lot when I left to come back home and on my way to the car I walked past a red SUV with a black Lab shut up inside. The two front windows were down enough for the dog to get his nose and eyes out for a breath of air...while his master, the idiot, was shopping inside the air conditioned store.

I hurried and put my things in the car and started looking for my cell phone to call 911. My phone was at home. The police station is practically around the corner, so I stopped and ran inside. They immediately sent an officer to check on the dog. I went home feeling a little easier.

A car parked in the sun gets unbearably hot. I can't stand to sit in one for even five minutes! Animals get just as hot as we do, or hotter!

Thank you for listening. Nothing gets me as riled up and mad as an idiot with a dog or any other kind of animal or pet.

Okay, I'm fixing to show you my onion crop. :)

This is it! It's okay to laugh. Actually, we've eaten several. I'm right proud of these few onions...after all, it is a teeny tiny garden.

I'll hush now and get busy. Eli is at the groomer's. I made the mistake of telling him early that we were going Bye Bye and he has constantly walked at my heels, and gone back and forth to the front door where his leash hangs. Using his nose, he swings his leash so it hits the refrigerator...telling me it's time to go. He could hardly wait so I dropped him off before eight o'oclock. When I left there he was playing with a crowd of little tiny dogs in the big fenced-in grassy area. Wish I had carried my camera!

Love,
Henny

  1. The police here are encouraging people to report instances of pets locked in cars. I have seen small children strapped into car seats and left, there are stupid people everywhere it seems. Eli looks so content sprawled over the floor, my spaniels used to do that, Ben prefers the comfort of the sofa and a pile of cushions.

  2. So glad you took quick action.
When I first get in a hot car, I can barely STAND it till I open the windows. When we go for gas and hubby gets out to pump, I die if I haven't remembered to buzz down the windows before he turns of the car. A mere crack of two inches is nothing.

  3. Glad you were there to report the dog. Anyone not taking care of their pet makes me crazy, too. Upside down Eli is so cute with his pink stomach and back feet sticking up. Our dogs are at the groomer today, too!

  6. You did the right thing and we're all proud of you. The next time the dog owner will do a smarter thing and leave the poor dog home. I couldn't focus on your onions as I couldn't take my eyes off you lovely old strainer. I don't think I've ever seen one that color. Hope you'll feature it sometime.

  7. In your heat I cannot imagine leaving a dog in the car. Today we ran to town, Chance went along, I sat with him in the vehicle with all the windows down while Far Guy did his errands. Some people are so stupid. :(

  8. Oh I tell you I can get so mad over dogs being left in hot cars like that! grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr That was so GREAT of you that you took the time to go to the police station and tell them. I hope they got on the owner of that dog BIG TIME!!! There is no excuse for leaving a dog in a hot car with windows cracked... oh sorry see I get totally nutso over this!

I have been looking for a groomer for Keeper. I will admit I have anxiety about leaving him sighhhh..I don't know any personally and I don't know anyone who uses a groomer so I am just shooting blind on trying to find him one. I think finding him a proper groomer would be a good thing as his home hair cuts leave a bit to be desired :O) and if I could get him groomed a bit more often than my schedule allows me to do it I think that would be good. He would love going if he knew that he got to play with other doggies while he was there. Keeper so loves other animals. How did you find your groomer?

  9. Some people shouldn't be allowed to have animals.. Nothing like an onion from out of the garden. My onions won't come out until Sept. 1. I am eating them now.

  10. Your onions in that lovely colander/strainer look like some still life painting. I'm glad you did the right thing for that poor overheated dog. I wonder just what the police did? Break a window, do you think?

  11. That would make me so angry to. I hate to see people mean to animals. So glad you did something about it. That is so funny that Eli was ready to go! The onions are lovely!

    Love you bunches!

  13. We were at the commissary last month and reported a car to the manager because there was a dog in it and it was in distress. Makes me sick.

  15. Elis looks adorable sprawled out like a human on his back. You have to question the mentality of someone leaving a dog locked in a red hot car.

  16. It was suppose to be cool sunday the 9th of August it was not, we went to the Oregon coast and visited the Tillamook Cheese factory for some ice cream top notch and only $2.85 for a big scoop, wow whee, some true idiot put his black lab around a tiny tree he was panting hard, I could not take it at all Oregon has one of the strongest animal abuse laws in the USA, Washington state where we live is getting the toughest animal abuse laws I went inside with my ice cream dripping all over me and insisted they use the public address system to get the people to come out and get the dog and give him some water and soon..They did it, the fellow who looked like he never missed one meal in his entire life, saundered outside slowly people told him left and right you are such an IDIOT and to relinquish the beautiful black lab who was drinking some water a kind person got for him..the nerve, there was an off duty sheriff getting some cheese and talking to the people who worked there who arrested this fellow cause he does this all the time, he took the dog to a no-kill place with tons of a/c and food and hydration and told me and others he won't be picking up this darling baby boy of a black lab, he has had 3 warnings and that is the last one..I thank God Oregon has strong animal laws and they are not shabby on people leaving the kids or old people in a car in the hot sun either! Eli looks so cute, my hubs Elli stretches out on the couch and the kitteh cats vie to be with him and the air conditioning is blasting and they sleep peacefully..thanks to God for people like you who are vigilant for animals, I cannot imagine the idiots who treat animals this way, but it does happen at the number one visitor place in all of Oregon the Tillamook Cheese factory, we are not going to go in the summer anymore toooo many stupid and rude people, I can buy Tillamook Ice Cream in the grocery stores and it is reasonable, guess I was to help that sweet lab puppy tethered to a tiny tree sun blasting, I would love to see that fellow tethered to a tiny tree hot and needing hydration maybe he would have more respect for human and canine and feline and all kinds of animals..just a thought!

  17. I meant to say I hope he gains some respect for human life, canine and feline and equine life and life in general. That is no way to treat any living things, the Tillamook Cheese factory gave us our money back I could not eat my cone I was toooo upset..I just don't get people who own pets and don't take good care of them, let them go and be free and with families who will love and care for them..That is what I think.ciao!

    1. Hi Ciao, Sorry I didn't see your comment sooner. Thank you for telling me about this. I can't stand to see any animal mistreated.Like you, it bothers me and makes me sick. I agree with you that someone should tie that fellow with the Lab to a tree in the hot sun for several hours.
