Dentist, Dumperoo, and an Apricot

Dear Friends,

Forgive me please for going away and staying for so long without even a goodbye or I'll be back.

Having had an unusual tooth ache lately, more like hurting in between my teeth, I went to the dentist. Looking at the first X-ray the technician asked, have you been having headaches? The dentist, passing by, looks in at the X-ray and says hmmm, lets get an X-ray of the front teeth. The dentist comes back in, stands and stares at the X-rays and asked, did you have some surgery done back many years ago...I did, back in the 70's. All this dark showing up on the X-rays, says the dentist, is infection. I am prescribing an antibiotic and sending you to a specialist. Scary stuff.  All this infection is in my head, my sinuses! No wonder I have been waking up with hurting behind my eyes and no wonder I haven't been able to think straight lately, of course not thinking straight has been going on for quite some time :-)! Actually friends, I have been worried sick.

Okay, a picture needed here and since there is not one available of my teeth, how about...

Poppy and Dumperoo discussing what to watch on TV.

Thank you for listening to my dental woes and worries. Yesterday was my first visit to the dentist who's title includes, "Microsurgery & Root canal Therapy Specialist". I really like this dentist. He patted my arm and said that he is 99.999 percent sure that I won't die from this infection and that he can take care of this problem. My next appointment is Wednesday.

Okay, on to something else. Another first...I ate an apricot this week, and even more surprising, an apricot picked from my own little tree. Here's the story.

Some time back before mama died, she went with Shelby and Jimmy to a nursery to buy fruit trees to plant on their farm. While at the nursery, mama bought two trees, both Banana Apple trees. One each for Shelby and me.  Mama used to remember and talk about the Banana Apple tree on the farm where she grew up and how delicious the apples were.

When Mama and Shelby decided to bring me my little apple tree, Shelby realized that Jimmy had planted both banana apple trees on their property...so Shelby brought me instead, an Apricot tree.

I planted the little Apricot sprout without going to a lot of trouble...I couldn't grow apricots. The struggling little tree decided to bloom this spring and low and behold ten little apricots appeared. This morning I ate an apricot. It was sweet and good...not even a blemish. There are five more ripening in the kitchen window and four more on the little tree.

All of a sudden I've got several things to post and talk about but for now I have gone on way too long. Why, you're probably not even still here.  Now to catch up reading the posts from all my favorite bloggers.

Love,
Henny

  1. ewww I am sorry your having all the dentistry issues... Sounds like they can fix you up though and that is a good thing. I wonder if this was related to all your dizziness you were having as well.... Take care.....

    1. Hey Texan. You know, I really think that dizziness was not vertigo but coming from all this I have going on now. Thank you.

  2. Hi Henny - I was wondering what took you away for awhile. Sorry to hear it wasn`tsomething fun. I know that any teeth and gum issues are never nice to deal with. Your dentist sounds like a good one (like mine) and I`m sure he`ll take good care of you. Just be sure to rest in between appointments. LOVE your little window. As a matter of fact if you look at my last post you`ll see we both like to decorate our window sills with plants and birds and such. So cute.It makes cleaning up a pleasure. And that photo of Dumperoo and Poppy. :))) Deb

  3. Tooth ache and ear ache are the worst pain there is, nothing seems to touch them. Lovely to have the apricots, I had peaches in Lincolnshire but I think that it is too wet here.

    1. Pam, you are so right about that. I hate a tooth ache, and remember having ear aches as a child.

  4. Wow...I am so sorry to hear about these dental woes. Having dental work is probably my worst thing I would rather do...I hate the feeling of vulnerableness (that is probably not even a word) when I am in the dentist chair. Glad to know you found a great doctor to take care of you. Sweet photos...and I love apricots. Lucky you to have that little tree! :)

    1. Hey Debby. I feel the same way. I am a bundle of nerves from the time I walk in a dentist office until I get back to the car. It wears me out! :)

  6. Oh, too bad about the infection but great you found a dentist you like and trust. I hope the work goes well and the pain goes away quickly. I have had an apricot tree in Minnesota for 20 years and only 3 times I have actually gotten apricots, dozens of them! Other years it blood beautifully and no fruit forms and I have no idea why. I love the picture of Poppy and the cat deciding what to watch on tv!

    1. Hey Cynthia. So next year this little tree may not have any fruit. Usually that happens. I do plan to put some compost around it and try to take better care of it. It will probably die if I go fixing it up. :) I'm good at that!

  7. Ack...those infections are horrid...I hope your special Dentist doesn't cost an arm and two legs. I know mine was $400 for one visit. Nothing more scary that a infection in your mouth. I hope the antibiotics work fast! Your own apricots...wonderful!! Take Care! :)

    1. Oh gosh! I know what you have recently been through with teeth! My first visit was 455.00 and they request that you pay up front for your first visit. The dentist estimates around 1500.00. :( Hopefully our dental insurance from Poppy's work will help out. Thank you.

  8. Toothaches are the worst kind of ache, no warning just kicks right in.... I hope you are able to get your infection cleared up quickly.
Cute picture of Dumperoo and Poppy, they look content.
An apricot tree, how lovely, I'm afraid the deer would eat all the fruit if I were to plant one, your story holds lots of memories and makes that fruit taste even sweeter.
Take good care of yourself Henny !

    1. You are right! The worst pain I've suffered with has been toothaches! I'm surprised the deer didn't eat these apricots. Maybe they don't like them. :) Thank you Jo.

  9. WOW. I'm so glad they caught that infection. But isn't it good to have an answer to your discomfort!
And I couldn't agree more with Debby Ray's comments above. I'll take major surgery - take my appendix, I won't miss it - over any and all dental work. I just hate it.
    Heal fast!

    1. Thank you, Peg. I think everybody dreads dental problems. I have sure had my share of root canals and fillings over the years. Seems like young people today all have such beautiful perfect teeth. Sigh.

  12. Henny Penny, hope you're better soon. I just posted about a book I've read on coconut oil and how much it has helped me. Honestly, it sounds crazy but it's an antibacterial and has done wonders for Wild Bill and me.

    1. I bought a jar of coconut oil after you posted about how good it is. I don't really know what to do with it...I did use some to make a batch of brownies. :) They were good! And I've used the oil on my dry hands. Thank you. :)

  15. I'm so glad you have a good specialist to get to the bottom of this infection. Maybe when this is cleared up you will not only FEEL better, you'll be able to SLEEP better. One can always hope, right? Feel better soon.

  16. Sorry about your teeth. It sounds as if you have a really good dentist. Seems that with this situation going back so far it might have been easy for the dentist to not connect the dots and you would have had to put up with the pain until someone somewhere actually followed them to the source.. Good to know that you are on antibiotics and that the dentist has assured you that things will indeed improve. Hope you are feeling better real soon. I've missed you posts and am glad to know that you are back and on the mend.

    1. Hey sweet Vicki. Thank you. I will appreciate a prayer. Hopefully this dentist can take care of the problem. I have actually had pain in the bones in my face and jaw. It is not like a toothache exactly. Guess that is from the infection.

  19. I did miss you, and echo all of the posts above! You may have inspired a visit to my dentist, and I won't mention how long it has been since I was last in his chair! No problems, but I am sure he can find some! Apricots are such a lovely treat when they are ripe and juicy, yours sound delightful and also come with a story. So much better from your own tree, supermarket fruit is often picked too soon and never gets ripe.
Nice to have you back, and hope it all gets better for you right away.

    1. Thank you Pam. The bad thing about dental problems is that you think everything is fine until the pain starts. I have been seeing my dentist twice a year for a check-up and cleaning...and X-rays once a year, and this pops up. Probably a good thing that I had changed dentists recently. I just hate teeth problems! Good to hear from you. :)

  20. Is there anything about you and your life that isn't just absolutely charming? Well, except for the infection in your head, of course. But the kitty and the window sill photos just seem so adorable.
Good luck with the infection treatment. It sounds like you are in good hands.
