Another sleepless night

I've really outdone myself this time!! Yep, I was drinking coffee and reading at 3:30 this morning.

Actually, I woke up at 2:30 and couldn't go back to sleep. Then at 3:30 Eli was standing by the bed looking at me with those big old eyes, I thought, what the heck, just get up and get the day started.

Poppy and Eli on the bed in the sewing room. The thunderstorm last Thursday that brought us the much needed rain, also brought some serious lightening. Lightening hit something in the back yard and knocked out our Direct TV service. So any TV watching has to be in the little sewing room. The Direct TV people can't get here until tomorrow to fix the mess. Almost five days we have had to wait!

Dumperoo says since Poppy and Eli took over the sewing room, he'll just get Poppy's chair. If you've notice the unmatched pattern in the fabric on this chair, it is because I upholstered the chair myself, without one iota of knowledge on how it's done. I found the fabric in a thrift store for five dollars. I really want to haul the whole mess to a thrift store, which I plan to do soon!

Not much news here. I did work in the teeny tiny garden this morning. The new row of green beans is looking good, the pepper plants too and even the pitiful looking eggplants are coming out. Might harvest an eggplant yet.  Thank you for stopping in. Hope to be back soon.

Love,
Henny

  1. That pic of Eli is so funny, kind of how I look and feel after a bad night.

  3. We've had a couple of those kind of nights lately, too, where you just give up and get up. I just can't get over how huge Eli is, but such s sweet, gentle giant. How much does he weigh?

    1. Hey Cynthia. Don't you hate nights like that, then feel awful the next day! Eli weighs 115 lbs. He looks and feels heavier than that though.

  4. Direct TV sucks, one time we waited more than a week for service...they never could fix the problem so I gave up on them...plus that they are too expensive, we have local cable for half the price and twice the service:)

    1. You're right about that. I was trying to tell Poppy about your posting about Direct TV and the problems and how you switched to something different. ..could not remember what though. They finally got here yesterday and fixed the problem.

  5. So if you got up in the middle of the night, did you crash about noon? I sure would have.
Funny - everyone shifting positions based on the circumstances at hand!

    1. I did. I had two short 15 minute naps during the day. :)

  6. Oh my gosh, I would not have gotten up! Even if it meant lying there tossing and turning. Eventually I'd nod off. I'm with Marty wondering if you crashed early.

  7. Well, I could't get to sleep last night either and so stayed up till 3:00 AM finishing the book I've been reading. Seems silly to toss and turn and not be able to get to sleep so I generally just get up and read till I get sleepy. It's nice and quiet and I can concentrate on what I am doing without interruptions. I had to get up at 7:00 to go do some volunteer work at the church but have felt fine all day but will probably crash early tonight. It seems that if I stay up half the night every other night then I'm tired and ready for bed early on the intervening nights. Something's out of sync here don't you think?

A nice little rain with a little wind and thunder earlier this evening. But no lightening. So nice! I've been missing the big thunderstorms that we usually have during the summer so this will have to do.

    1. I had rather be up doing something than tossing and turning too. I am the same way...out of sync!

    1. The flash made his big old eyes look sad. He is a big baby. No, never did I think we would have to pay to watch TV. Next it will be the air we breath. Love you too!

  9. That rain you got has jump-started your teeny tiny garden.
I'm sorry you can't get a decent night's sleep. I hope you get in a nice nap in the afternoons to make up for the sleep deficit.

  11. I was reading something on line and came across this link to a list of easy steps to make yourself fall asleep in under 60 seconds. I can't believe it would work THAT fast, but it might help. It's all about the breathing. Maybe if you concentrate on breathing this way your mind would quit thinking about everything else and you could fall asleep.... Maybe. Anyhow, the steps were supposedly created by a doctor from Harvard. I've seen him on TV. He has some unusual ideas, not ordinary mainstream medicine. Here's a link to the steps: http://www.thescienceworld.com/how-to-fall-asleep-in-under-60-seconds/

    1. Hey Peg. I will look up that web site. Thank you. I need it! Thank you too for the information you left on an earlier post about the drawing of Jesus and the Lamb by Kathrine Brown. I went on line and read about her. I was so excited that you knew who drew that picture. I didn't reply to any of the comments that day, must have been one of crazy days! :)

  13. For a minute I almost thought that Eli kept you awake when it thundered, but it seems you were the wakeful one and he could keep you company. My poor dog spends thunderstorms and fireworks on our bed pawing and generally having a doggie anxiety attack. I heard of something new to try, have to buy it before we have any more storms. Oh, I am in California...no storms in my near future!
I have been working on the painting I started with the photo you posted (last fall) of the last of your garden's bounty. Collected in an enamel pan, the colors are so vibrant and the vegetables look beautiful. I will send a picture of it when I am finished. See how inspiring you are!

    1. Eli does wake us up early...if I do happen to be asleep around 4:30 am! He stands and stares at us. I can't wait to see your painting. Gosh, I can't imagine 'me' being inspiring! Thank you! :)

  15. LOL they do have big sad eyes, Whey they are not sad at all in reality :O).

  16. about the chair, why get rid of it? If the unmatched material is the only reason I'm wondering if you might work a little on it. I love the chairs that have floral over all and then plaid or checked on the cushion and arms done in another pattern. Kinda like a crazy quilt chair. If your chair is comfortable and pleasing to your tribe, why not spiff it up? I found a large vintage bedspread that I'm planning to use for the cushions on mine.

  17. How could anyone refuse those beautiful, big, sad eyes !
I've had a couple of sleepless nights this week myself, life happens.......
