Big make-over!

You know what? I love writing a post but I just hate putting those label things at the bottom. Why do I hate that so much? I am not good at that and have a hard time pulling labels from my post. Imagine that! Now I am behind again and must go back an update five or six posts. Darn it!

Okay, the big, really big, make-over. I'm holding my breath waiting for your honest opinion...well I think I want your honest opinion. :) Yes, I do.

Already missing that "Abe Lincoln" log cabin look.

Poppy and I got a really good deal on the stain. The story was that some young couple ordered 10 gallons of this redwood stain to do their house, but then could not come up with the money to have the work done. My theory is, this paint company some how screwed up and got a little too much pink tint to this large batch of supposedly redwood stain, got lots of complaints, put the stuff on sale, and Poppy and I happened by. We are good at that you know. Just my middle of the night thinking.

Got lots to do today!! Thank you for stopping by. Thank you for listening!

Love,
Henny

  1. It looks very nice and 'new' but you asked for honest opinions ? I prefer the 'before' colour, but that's just my opinion.

    1. Thank you Wean. Really and truly, so do I prefer the before color. Hope you and all your kitty cats are doing good.

    2. Yes they're all doing well thank you Henny, my vet says they are breaking records now for longevity !
I've not been too active lately on the www, I've been working on a project that is now complete.
I now have the urge to get out my sewing machine and start sewing !
      Hope you are well.

  2. I think I kind of prefer the au naturel look, but I think the red will grow on me, and as it ages a bit and looks more weathered, I'll like it more. I always think of a log house looking, well, like aged logs. I can imagine you thinking....what have we done.....been there, done that, and whatever it was always ends up 'growing on you' and you end up liking it. A change is always good:)
I laughed at your middle of the night thinking, that sounds like me.
It looks a bit more subtle in the first and third set of pictures, and looks quite fine there I think. Actually, it's growing on me already! Looks good:)
Phew, was that enough honesty and rambling for you?:)
I'm behind with my blogging, but did get caught up reading your posts quickly the other day. You are very prolific and funny and interesting! Sorry I didn't have time to leave comments, but I do always read!

    1. Karen, thank you. I enjoyed your comment. I suppose it will grow on me and like you said, when it ages a little. Here we are with a red house and a giant white dog!

  3. I like the new and the old. The thing about log homes is to keep them from going black and I have seen too many like that. So I applaud your good luck in finding stain on sale and your braveness in going ahead and doing it without really knowing how it would end up. It looks great! I LOVE your screened in porch.

  4. I totally understand the keeping the logs looking good and how hard that is to do. I like the red, it is different, but I think it will grow on you...no going back now! It looks fresh and clean. Log upkeep sucks:(

    1. That's what Poppy said. The logs are clean and protected with two new coats of stain. I have seen some of the beautiful logs inside your home, on your blog. I did not realize you have a log home. You are right, it is a continuous job taking care of the logs. Thank you.

  5. I vote for the new. While I like the whole idea of rustic, I think the red gives the house a more "finished" look and plays up the color of the door frames and windows. How nice to have the project finished!

    1. Thank you! Whew! I do love rustic. My next job is to paint all the door frames and windows, a dark brown.

  6. I like the red, it gives your home a 'lift' and in time it will tone down to a lovely muted shade of brown/red.
I've always wanted to build a log house, and still is my dream house. We've had a time with carpenter bees boring in the wood outbuildings this year, do you have a problem with them making holes in your logs ?

    1. I appreciate that so much! Oh my goodness, carpenter bees are terrible. We have them every spring. Poppy is continuously filling in bee holes with pea gravel and putty, his solution. We have tried everything. He keeps a tennis racket close by to swat the bees. They drive him crazy!

  7. I love your house red or brown. That full screen porch would be my haven!

The red looks good. A change of anything this size does keep you asking if the decision was right or not. It looks beautiful. It will age and dull and you will ask yourself why did I not use this color years ago. You home is treated and protected now. I wouldn't mind that protection in any color.

    Thanks for visiting my blog.

    1. Thank you Gail. You are right. The logs are treated and protected now and that is exactly what was needed, even if it is red. I enjoy your blog.

  8. I think the red looks neat and tidy and it compliments the fire place brick and the color of the porch. If I had to pick, I would choose the natural log color, but this looks nice, too.
I don't like those category things either so I just don't do them! Very freeing. :)

    1. Hey Cynthia. I did notice that the red brings out the color in the fireplace brick. I really do like the natural log color best too.

  10. I can see how that first pinky coat could have worried you----especially in the middle of the night (a terrible time to be awake and worried). But the second coat made it look wonderful. I love the contrast of the dark red against all that green. Looks sharp!

    1. Oh thank you Victoria. I have just about worried myself sick over this and it is too late to change anything. The more I look at it the better I like it though.

  11. I like the before and the after. As a person of Scandinavian descent, I am particularly fond of red log houses, which are found all over Sweden and Norway, especially in old villages and vacation cabins.

  12. Thank you Linda! That makes me very happy. Knowing there are red log houses somewhere makes me feel much better.

  13. I LOVE the red stain. It's a happy color. I've seen red houses before; I don't remember specifically if they were log homes or not, but they look good. Bur, I know I would be worried, too, if I were in your shoes. It's such a big difference and you can't undo it. But you must like dark red; the page I'm typing on is red! And it's not just for this post about the red house, it's every day. You wouldn't have set up your blog with it if you didn't like it. The only difference is that the house is big and you're used to it being brown. It will grow on you. It doesn't have to grow on me; I love it right now!

    1. Thank you Peg. You are right. I did pick this red for my blog and I am happy with it. There are shades of red that get on my nerves. I don't like Chinese red or orange red, but the old barn red I don't get tired of. Thank you for leaving me a comment.

  14. Mama, I like it!! And the more I look, the better I do like it. But I told you the first time I saw it I liked it! Yay!! You have good taste. It's just a big change. Wait 'til Thanksgiving and Christmas out there! Yippee!! :) Love from your oldest and best girl, the boss of the children, i.e. Andee's boss. (But not really. I love you, Andee! I think you are secretly the oldest and wisest!)
