A sunflower and a sweet pea

That big old Sunflower that volunteered and came up has opened...

I declare, if I was trying to grow sunflowers they would be little and puny. This one looks like something you would carry in a parade. Reckon I could make myself a fishing pole out of the big stem.

That fascia board around the house still looks awful! You may want to watch for a major change here.  We have hired a painter...starting tomorrow...to pressure wash the house and then paint on two coats of Redwood stain.  The logs are beginning to look worn and faded. It is scary to look into that bucket of red, I mean RED stain.  If you don't see any more pictures of the house, well you will know somebody messed up.

The shed in the back yard looks redwood, doesn't it? I like red. Maybe it will turn out pretty.

This morning when I brought the water hose around to wash off the front steps, those chickens again!! I thought to myself, a picture of this should be put on my little blog! A look at how things really are. Pictures on a blog can make a place look absolutely perfect. Like our comfy looking screened-in back porch with the old iron bed. The two bags of garbage, tied and needing to be carried off were hidden from the picture. Just being a little honest. All is far from perfect here. :)

Settled in for the night. I guess we will have to name the baby "sweet pea"...

Hope to be back soon.

Love,
Henny Penny

Mowing this rough and bumpy back yard with a push mower is no easy task. Feels good to show somebody my work... :)

That is one huge Sunflower, we've had a volunteer also, a small sunflower seed and now it looks like something from Jack and the Beanstalk..lol

    1. Looks like everything you grow gets big and beautiful. I just get lucky now and then! :) No there is not many things cuter than a baby chick, unless it is a baby bird, or any baby. Right? :)

    1. Well it runs on gas but still I have to walk behind it. :) Thanks to my landscaping, we can't get the riding mower down to the back yard!

  3. WOW what a sunflower!

Your talk about showing only the "good" parts makes me think about a scene in a book I read. This school teacher was taking a group of kids out to do some landscape painting. She told them that they should't paint just everything that they saw before them that they could change things and edit out stuff. And then commented that "often life takes a lot of straightening up". So true!

Don't you hate something like painting the house. It's so big and once done not exactly changeable. You just have to live with it till the next time. Yikes what if you hate it?! We have a limestone house so the only paint comes in on the porch, trim and dormers. But it's been the same color since we moved here almost 30 years ago. It looks good but we are kind of tired of it. A paint job is in our future and we've been thinking about a change of color, but WHAT color? Oh my. I'm not a good decided at all.

    1. I like that story. It is so true. Oh, and you are right about painting. I am worried sick! And what if it turns out too red? I am not a decision maker either!I told my husband that I never thought he would want a red house and he said, well it's not really red. The paint in that can looks red!

  4. That looks like a sunflower that chose its own place to grow and quite likes it! Sweet Pea and he mama just couldn't be any cuter. They belong in a children's storybook.
It takes me 3 days to mow my yard, and then it's almost time to turn around and do it again! I'd much rather garden than mow.

    1. Gosh! It also takes me three days. Not that our yard is that big, it is so rough with a big ditch that runs across the back. And thanks to my landscaping with paths and stumps! It's a mess! :)

  5. Hey Henny! Look at the sunflower, it is smiling at you! I just love them! I have no sun in my yard cause my neighbors all hate trees so I let the yard grow up with trees so it is a forest to aggravate them. Laughing here! I know you work hard but it is beautiful and satisfactory. hope Lynn comes for a visit soon! Love Terry

  6. Hey Terry! I love sunflowers too but when I try to grow them they never do good!? I hope Lynn comes to see me soon too. We just don't see each other enough. It's sad that life is so busy all the time. Love Henny
