Hello friends. I'm very sorry for being away so long...
Hardly a day goes by that I don't think about you. Poppy said just the other day, "every time I pull up your blog you still have pictures of those icicles from back in February."
"I've just been totally out of anything to post and then spring comes along and the big snowball bush blooms, well, you know me and the big snowball bush!" :)
Our teeny tiny house in the big woods is barely visible...
So I set my buckets down there in the path to take a few pictures. Be still my heart! The Azaleas!
You know, I remember living in Summerville SC back in the late 1940s. In fact, I started school there and went through most of the third grade before we moved back to NC.
Even at that young age, I fell in love with the beautiful giant Azaleas and trees with moss hanging from the branches. "I knew then that I wanted a yard with giant Azaleas" like those in Summerville and Charleston"!
Daddy was manager of a textile mill in Summerville. I don't remember much about the mill except the noise of all the big machines and that they used gray cones filled with thread of some sort. Occasionally daddy would bring home a stack of empty cones for us to play with. So much fun it was! The tips of the cones were different colors, to separate the kinds of threads, I suppose.
Anyhow, guess what I did with one of my cones?? I filled it with soil and stuck a piece of an Azalea in it and buried it in a hole in the yard. It took root and grew! It sure did!
And, look way down Henny Penny Lane as far as you can see...
That's a home being built. It was probably 4 or maybe 5 years ago I posted that we would soon be getting new neighbors, well that is finally about to happen. Such a nice couple. We're glad they will soon be moving out here.
Oh, and I like this picture...
Hopefully, soon I will post about the teeny tiny garden. The jobs around here seem to get harder and harder especially with my back problems, arthritis, and osteoporosis. Good grief! I'm not giving up yet! :) I managed to get all the leaves raked and hauled away again. Yay!!
Smokey, looks back as I tell him to be careful out on his adventures today...
One more little apology for such a long post about, of course, the snowball bush. But it is such a beautiful Spring! The wild azalea and the button bush too...
Love, Henny
Wishing you all a very Happy Easter!!
It was well worth the wait to see all the beautiful and amazing spring colors that surround you. It is beautiful!!! So nice you are getting some nice neighbors.
ReplyDeleteHappy Easter.
Beautiful! And you dog looks like a bear at first glance! Spring is so nice, isn't it! Have a blessed Easter. It was fun to see your post. andrea
ReplyDeleteYou can go a little crazy with your camera anytime. I totally enjoyed my visit around your beautiful property. Spring does have a way of making us a little crazy, I work harder than I should because Spring makes me feel young again, then the next day my body reminds me that I am not a young chicken anymore. Spring is so refreshing after the gloom and dark days of winter. Again, thank you for all of these lovely photos, your home is amazing :)
ReplyDeleteGood to see your yard all blooming, it is so pretty!
ReplyDeleteIt's all so beautiful! I'm glad you checked in. Spring is beautiful here too, and I love it.
ReplyDeleteIt certainly is a beautiful Spring around your place. The snowball bushes are one of my very favorite. I have one, but it does not come anywhere near looking like yours. The azaleas have such big blooms and they too are so very pretty. Look so good with everything in full bloom. you have been missed, but I sure understand. Happy Easter!!
ReplyDeleteHenny, your place is so beautiful in the spring....it's like living in a fairyland! Thank you for posting all these wonderful pictures....all the bushes and flowers are gorgeous. Sorry to hear about your sore back...are you still line dancing my friend? I think of you doing that! You're keeping up with all the springtime chores, it sounds like. Just don't overdo it. Peace and Love to you and Poppy there in the midst of beautiful Spring. Here we still have snow piles! Love you!
ReplyDeleteHey Diane. Thank you. Hope your eye surgery went well. I have certainly thought about you. Yes, I am still line dancing or at least trying to. :) It is a lot of fun. Love you!!
DeleteHi Henny! It's so good to hear from you.
ReplyDeleteIt is just gorgeous there! We are just seeing some leaves start to open here.
I've been in Summerville, it's a beautiful area.
Thanks for sharing all your beauty!
So good to see a post from you! I know only too well how easy it is to have the days slip by and before you know it, the blog’s been empty for a month.
ReplyDeleteYour flowers are absolutely stunning.
How wonderful to hear from you! I always love seeing your home and beautiful property. Your talent in growing things is amazing! Enjoy Spring!

ReplyDeleteHeHe! Write one hundred lines as punishment....
ReplyDeleteFor leaving it so long...Still...when you do write a
post, you do make up for it, especially with all the
plant life...And l especially love the Snowball bush,
that's amazing...and that's where l love to see flowers,
and plants, out in the wild, in the fields, hedgerows, and
countryside...AND...not cut and stuck in a vase on a
dinning room window sill...! :(.
And....of course it's Easter Sunday, the sun was out at six
thirty this morning...gonna be a lovely great day, my neighbour,
Emma is off the hospital later to have her baby girl, they
tried last Wednesday, but did'nt work out, but to~days the day...
Sunday's a great day to be born, the best in fact, and of course,
l was born on a Sunday, at 6am, of a morning....
If you remember the rhyme....
Monday's child is fair of face
Tuesday's child is full of grace,
Wednesday's child is full of woe,
Thursday's child has far to go,
Friday's child is loving and giving,
Saturday's child works hard for a living,
But the child who is born on the Sabbath Day
Is bonny and blithe and good and gay....
Well....Best get on...I've had breakfast out on
the patio...and lunch will be much the same....
Quiet day, and a quiet weekend...
So..Yes! A very Happy Easter to you and yours
Henny...And to one and all your of followers out
there...God Bless! :O).

Hey Willie. So glad you didn't delete me for being away so long. A new baby is so exciting! Hey, "bonny and blithe and good and gay" describe you perfectly. Of course you were born on a Sunday. I don't know what day of the week I was born on. Breakfast on the patio sounds wonderful. I had my coffee on the back porch this morning. Happy Easter! Thank you for the nice comment. I will look at website now.
DeleteHello Henny- good to hear from you- I was wondering when you were going to post. I like the Snowball tree and other flowering bushes- very colorful home you do have there in America. Best wishes. KEV.
ReplyDeleteHello, Henny Penny! What a lovely post! It has been a good year for azaleas. Mine were battered by a storm last week, but before that they were fabulous! And your snowball bush is stunning!! We are enjoying this perfect NC weather. What a lovely Easter morning!
ReplyDeleteMary Kathrine! So good to hear from you! I went to your blog to comment and found that your last post was in January. You are as bad as I am. :) I hate to hear that storm hurt your azaleas. We had a chance of frost again one day last week and I was so afraid it would happen and kill all the pretty blooms. Luckily, it didn't happen. I bet your farm is looking pretty about now. You are so fortunate to have a real farm...my dream! Hope you and the family are having a wonderful Easter Sunday.
DeleteHappy Easter! These lovely bushes make up for the time lag in post, lol. We love these photos and so glad you have survived the cold wet Spring we've all had. Smokey, you are as handsome as ever and nice to see you are not being forced to wear bunny ears. But Randall should have hopped in for this post.
ReplyDeleteYour home is lovely. Thank you for the flower pictures-we are not so warm, and it's nice to see such beauty!
ReplyDeleteYour flowering snowball bush and azalea bushes are taking my breath away. Beautiful! You live north of Raleigh your "About" page tells me...we are not far away so to speak. Though I never drive in Raleigh if I do not have to...take the long way home is my song. Blessings!
ReplyDeleteOh, how nice to see a post from you. I think that spring is here in Indiana also. After such a rambunctious late winter and early spring it's nice to have some weather that seems normal. That snowball bush is gorgeous. Is it a hydrangea or a viburnum? I haven't ordered many plants this year. The shipping is just horrendous and I am running out of space for anything that gets to be very big. So only one more order to come day after tomorrow and once that is planted I will just have weeding and mulching to do. Oh, there is the grass needing to be mowed already-------- there's always something laying wait for me. Hope things are going well for you all and that your creatures your creatures are happy and healthy.
ReplyDeleteHey Victoria. I have thought about you so much this spring, you and your beautiful yard. We just mowed our yard for the first time this week and what a job! I know what you mean about always something waiting to be done. It's almost overwhelming. So good to hear from you!
DeleteWe have been missing you!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your azalea
pictures. I've been sad this spring
because I lost ten beautiful azaleas
In the hurricanes and floods last year.
So I am without azaleas.
But I have plans to ask neighbors for
cuttings I can root!
The nice thing about Gardener's
is they are willing to share.
Cuttings,produce and advice .
Your gardens are lovely.
That snowball bush is amazing, I have never seen one that blooms so prolificly
Next post please share some fluffy
White dog photos.
Hey Savannah. Thank you for commenting. It's good to hear from you. I feel so bad about your beautiful azaleas being lost in the floods and storms. Wish I could give you some of mine. Azaleas do seem to take root easily. I'll remember that about the dog pictures. Guess I don't post their pictures as often as I used to. Eli is getting old (11 years) and it shows. Makes us so sad. Hope to post again soon. :)
ReplyDeleteI always love seeing a post from you and I always go away wanting to sit on your porch and just look at the pretty flowers! My grandmother had a yard full of azaleas. In fact, the last time I went back to the old home place, they were in full bloom without anyone caring for them for twenty years or so. I can't get anything to grow here in my yard much less azaleas! Glad to see you post and hope to see you again soon.
ReplyDeleteGrace & Peace,
Pam
There’s a special kind of peace that flows through your words—like sunlight dappling through those blooming azaleas. The way you tie the present to the past, from the snowball bush and buckets to sweet memories of Summerville, is a gentle reminder of how our roots shape our joys.
ReplyDeleteI loved the image of little you planting that Azalea cutting in a cone from your daddy’s mill. What a lovely, living thread to carry through the years. And hearing about new neighbors coming soon—well, it sounds like a new season is blooming in more ways than one.
Thank you for sharing this glimpse of your world.
