We made a trip to town today...

and why I have to keep putting off buying that new pair of jeans 😉

What's this? A line forming already just outside the pantry door?

Somebody might as well open another bag of birdseed too. That old saying, "eating us out of house and home", pretty much fits us here...

Got all kinds waiting in line at feeders.  We moved these two hanging bird feeders from the front porch to just outside the kitchen and living room windows...

Actually, two little birds have flown into the kitchen window lately. Our thinking was, hanging something there might prevent it from happening again...

Now there is a constant flutter around the window with birds waiting their turn to grab a sunflower seed.

And the little hanging pot at the living room window gives Poppy something to watch besides the TV...

Nothing going hungry around here. Wait until you see just inside the freezer door...

Shame on us! But who could resist! Tillamook is on sale at Food Lion for 3.99 and Breyers is on sale, buy 2 for 8.00 and get a thid one free. Wow! Another reason I need to wait about buying that new pair of jeans. 😞

Anyhow...I've been meaning to update you on Randall Rabbit...

He is now 8 months old and growing really big. What a sweet bundle of fun he has become. I need to get a little video of him showing off when I go inside the pen. He does bunny flips and is so cute! We added a panel to the front of his cage...such a cozy little home...

and his cozy little home home is safe and snug inside a 10' x 10' chain link pen, reinforced with rabbit wire and complete with an enclosed roof. Why most any bunny would be proud of such a fine home. Just check out the coziness inside...

with lots of hay to play in and nibble on. Why, I just might spend the night with him one of these nights.

and our old "Miss Ducky" is happily sitting on two duck eggs, and has quite the story to tell...

Miss Ducky is very old. She is a Muscovy with Angel Wing, a cosmetic condition where the wing feathers twist as they grow causing them to grow out from the body instead of lying flat. She has never been able to fly.

She has outlived all the ducks we've had and seems very content to live alone on our little pond...

Well, content except for the fact that she wants a baby duck of her very own...Miss Ducky has been sitting on a nest near the pond ever since last spring. We didn't think much about it until one day when she was off, and we saw that she was sitting on a pile of large acorns. Acorns! She had to have gathered them and put them there.

Anyhow, after telling the sad story to my friend Carla, Carla gathered two real duck eggs from their yard and brought them to us. The next time Miss Ducky was off her nest, Poppy took the acorns away and replaced them with the two eggs.  We seriously doubt that Ducky will hatch them but we'll see. For now, she is very happy and terribly proud which makes us happy too.

Well friends, I've gone on enough about the foolishness around here. How's the weather been where you are? We have had days and days of rain and the days without rain are cloudy. Very little sun shine...

But February is here and we're now getting closer to spring. Just can't wait to see blue skies and green grass again, and Mr. Sun!

Okay, don't know how this other duck picture got here but if I delete it, all different font sizes will appear in my post. Thank you for visiting.

Love, Henny

  1. Looks like everyone will be enjoying the bounty from your trip into town. I worry about all the birds and squirrels during this time of the year. Always putting out seed. Hopefully Mr. Sun will be out soon and we all can enjoy the sunshine. Looking good around your place.

  3. We usually have several cartons of ice-cream in the freezer too... mostly Home-made Vanilla for granddaughter and Dove bars for me.... unless DH saw something new he'd like to try. He's an Ice-cream lover. And I imagine Eli and Ellie as well as bunny and birds need food too! Love Randall Rabbit's little home. He is such a handsome guy. And I really hope Miss Ducky hatches one or both of those eggs!

  4. Oh I love the Miss Ducky story!! What a kind thing to do. :)
Randall sure is getting big and you just have to love those ears!!
Your freezer looks like ours. :)

  5. Well, as long as you don't sit down and eat the whole carton of ice cream you should be okay with getting new jeans. Otherwise................

It looks to me as though your creatures re food and lodging are doing better than a lot of people! I can just imagine how much those two BIG dogs eat in a days time.

    1. Hey Victoria, Oh, I could probably sit down and eat a whole carton but I try to eat a sensible serving. :) Most of the time.

  6. Once upon a time we had 10 Muscovy ducks and drake, and that spring we had 100 baby ducks running around our place. It was a bit much. Those that survived (I tended to run over baby ducks every time I backed down the driveway) we ate. I was very tired of eating duck by the time we finished.

  7. I am sorry Henny... I did not intend to be anonymous but I can't seem to get rid of the post and start again.

  8. Oh Henny....I'm sure hoping that Ducky will hatch those eggs you gave her? Better chance than the acorns anyway! What a very nice house you've made for Randall Rabbit....very deluxe! and I love your flavors of ice cream! What a bargain! Do you eat Polish Paczkis now in the time before Lent begins? It's a tradition here so we're looking forward to it. Your house and yard always looks so nice, whether sunny or cloudy! Take good care! Love you.

    1. Hey Diane. So sad, the day after writing this post, something stole both duck eggs. Ducky had been sitting on them for about three weeks. We'll try again this spring. Love you!

  9. Oh how I hope miss ducky’s eggs hatch! More sunflower seed is on our shopping list too. The birds have surely been hungry during these cold snowy winter days we have been having. Hilltop Post

  10. I've never heard that about a duck...feathers not being able
to grow straight...strange that...still if it does'nt hinder her
life and she's quite happy...! :)x

Windows and birds look lovely, and l bet Smokey enjoys
seeing the little birds...through the window to...thinking
    of other things to...Bless!x

And Randall rabbit is certainly getting a size...be nice
to see a video of him...doing his bunny jumps, l'd like
to see that...and look at the size of those ears...! :).
You'll have to find him a friend to share that lovely
home with...Perhaps another rabbit or even a Guinea
pig...! They go well together...! :).

Well...l must get on up the supermarket, busy week
next week..Mon/Tues/Wed..l've the gas people here,
installing a new boiler/heating system, coming up to
date with the new technology...not that l ever use the
    heating system...Still...it must be done...!

    1. Hey Willie. I will try to get a little video of Randall Rabbit. I am still looking for another rabbit but having no luck finding one that has been spayed or nuetered. I am afraid two males will fight and if I get a female, well, what would I do with all the baby bunnies?? Around here the cost of having a rabbit spayed or nuetered is 300.00 to 400.00. I've checked with 2 rabbit rescue places and they have rabbits for adoption that have been spayed but they have such strict rules...like the rabbit must be kept indoors and have a certain amount of play space, and you have to let the adoption folks check in to make sure the rabbit is being cared for, and on and on, and on. It's crazy! Thanks for visiting.

  12. Looks like a good haul. My Mom always had ice cream in her freezer. Have a nice weekend.

  13. Henny, it is too cold to eat ice cream, lol. However you must stock up on sale items when they are their. First, things can still be hard to find and the prices just never drop. I have had such an increase in the price of bird food. I buy bags of 25 pounds, and this year my budget of $400 is not buying as much. Since our snow cover has not been bad, I do not feel too guilty about cutting back a bit. But the dark skies and the cold are something else. My daffodil leaves are up and inch and will not go beyond that until April at least. I do keep my feeders at least 20 feet from the house now, and it has helped cut back on window hits. Love Randall! 14. Oh this post really touched my heart strings. When I was about 7 years old, my grandma gave me a duckling. I named her Penny, and she was my love. I adored her. She was a Muscovy and followed me everywhere. I'm glad your duck has some real eggs to lay on now!

  15. It's never too cold to eat ice cream. The price has gone up drastically here but when I see a sale I stock up!!!
How kind to exchange Miss Ducky's acorns for real duck eggs. I sure hope they hatch. She'll be so happy.
Randall Rabbit has a good life. All your various animals have always had great lives!!!
Take care dear Henny Penny, Granny M

  16. What sweet pets! Love the bunny hutch. I definitely would feel cozy in there if I were a rabbit! So glad your ducky is getting to sit on real eggs, bless her! Congrats on the ice cream deals!

  17. Seeing Tillamook ice cream in your freezer makes me smile. My home state, my ocean, my beach cabin, my long history of visiting the Tillamook Cheese Factory, and eating ice cream there.

  18. Very nice animal life! I had a bunny like that for our one daughter once. He lived to be 12. He loved his hay also! I love feeding the birds so that I can watch them. We have Food Lions up here and I did see the Tillamoook ice cream on sale...I love that brand! Andrea

  19. The weather here is so cold! 6 degrees right now.
We don't have Tillamook ice cream around here but that was a great deal on Breyers!
Your Randall has gotten so big, and is still cute.
So sweet about Miss Ducky. I hope an egg or two hatches.

  20. I hope Miss Ducky hatches those eggs. It would be fun to have some ducklings to add to your menagerie. Feeding the birds does get expensive. But if you factor in the enjoyment . . . Well, we think it is money well spent! I just read that putting stickers on the outside of the windows is the way to keep birds from flying into them. I’m going to try it as soon as we can get to Dollar Tree. I have had two sweet red winged blackbirds die in my hands this winter from flying into the sun room windows. It breaks my heart!

  21. Oh my gosh that ice cream looks so good! I would not be able to resist a big bowl every night! hope the duck eggs hatch for your girl! That would be awesome!

  22. Critter feed is expensive! That was some sale on ice cream:)

  23. Randall Rabbit looks comfy in his spacious house. I enjoyed reading about Miss Ducky and her acorns now hopefully she will take care of the duck eggs and be happy. Your place has a lot going on and it must be nice and rewarding with all the animals sharing their life with you. Of course, at times it can be chaotic too but it is still a rewarding feeling when you think of them. A wonderful group that makes up a happy family. Thanks for sharing, thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment. Have a wonderful weekend.

  24. Randall as a wonderful home, with everything he could need. He is so lucky to have you! And now I want to know if Miss Ducky hatched the eggs and wat kind of mom she will be. Your dog is beautiful; what is his breed? I have never tried Tillamook, but have been tempted. Is it good? Your blog look is lovely!

  25. I love the frozen fruit. I am thinking smoothies. Lots of goodies at your home for everyone! Gonna be in the sixties a day or two next week. I want snow! Why won't Va. get snow. We only had a dusting the whole season so far and that was last Wednesday.

  26. Dear Henny! What a nice post, especially with me eyeing that freezer of ice cream! That TIllamook is a great deal! You can never have too much ice cream. Oh, I love the rabbit, the birds, and of course the doggos! But, my heart goes out to your ducky mother, I sure hope at some point she can hatch some ducklings! I saw above that the eggs were gone, but try again, with some nice warm duck eggs in the spring. Could she be put up, where nothing could get at her? Well, you always have the sweetest stories to tell us, so keep them coming! XO Terry

    1. Thank you Terry. We have a piece of fence we're going to put up around the little section where Ducky sits. She can go in and out on the water but nothing can get to her. Next time I plan to help her build her nest (if she will let me) :) Carla gets plenty of duck eggs so when spring gets here I will get two more eggs. Love you!

  28. oh my goodness.........I know how feeding everyone and everything takes funds away from what we want! Here, what the birds leave behind, the deer , raccoons and wild hogs are more than happy to eat up. I also place scraps of the leftovers from our food out in the woods. My husband set up his game camera and on the camera, two coyotes were happily scooping up 2 to 3 pieces of pizza at a time into their mouths and then leaving with it. I guess they were taking pizza home to the kids? Who needs jeans when you can have Snickers ice cream instead??...... Oh......you have a bunny! Such a lovely color......Randal looks like a story book bunny! Miss Ducky will do anything it seems to be a mama...even if it's acorn babies! How sweet that you and your friends gave her real eggs! She will be so happy if they hatch and she has little ones to care for. Just want you to know I always love visiting you here and reading about your little corner of the world! Stay warm! Wishing you pleasant February days!

  29. The haul osOh, my goodness, that ice cream appears to be so delicious! I don't think I could ever say no to a huge bowl of cereal for dinner. I really hope that one of those duck eggs hatches, so your girl will be happy.
