about the few blossoms around here

Well, I'm back. Should have waited and titled this post..."still blogging". We've had a little spring-like weather and I've had the crazies again.

The snowball bush has come through all this crazy weather and in a few days should be hanging in big white balls.

Oh my, spring arrives and all kinds of ideas pop into my head. Why yesterday while watering the new row of little Rose of Sharon trees, kind of hard to see...

I happened upon the perfect spot for a flower bed so, dropped everything and went to work on that, but don't have a picture yet.

Remember last year when I bought this Lilac bush that had been reduced? It's been in the little greenhouse through the winter. I simply cannot decide where to plant it.

Anyhow, it's blooming and oh my goodness, it smells just wonderful! I had no idea!

Also blooming in the greenhouse is this pretty wild red honeysuckle. Poppy broke off a small piece last summer from a vine in the woods and said, why don't you try rooting this.

and this poor determined little tulip has bloomed for two weeks...closing up at night and...

faithfully opening up the next morning. Poor thing. Who knew there were tulips around. It's been years since I planted tulips.

Not much of a post here, so thank you if you've stayed this long. Hopefully, I will be back soon with more exciting things to talk about.

Love,
Henny

  2. The flowers are beautiful! Glad the snow is gone.

I thought tulips had to be replanted each year...but life finds a way!

    1. I've planted a few before and they bloom once and then come back but never bloom again.

  3. Henny, you have been fibbing. So often you deny having a green thumb but just look at that lilac and the wild Honeysuckle you got to grow and BLOOM. The Snowball bush is so lovely and whatever the pink blooms are on the left of that picture.
I can hardly wait to see where the new flowerbed will be and what you plan to grow in it. It looks very Spring-ish out your way.

  4. I love lilacs. My mom had a couple of them. I'd love to have some, but just don't have a place for one where it could get sun. Our Bradford pear trees and saucer magnolias are finally blooming. I was sure my magnolia would freeze, but the buds just stayed mostly closed for days and days. I've never seen a red honeysuckle. Do they have the same sweet smell of the paler ones? I bet hummingbirds would love that!

    1. Hey Peg! My problem here is finding a place in the sun. We have way too many trees. I'm glad your saucer magnolias are blooming. Some folks here have them and just about every year the cold hurts them. I love the red honeysuckle and was surprised at how it has taken root and grown. I don't think it smells as sweet as the other, but it sure is pretty. I'll check it out today...see if it smells good. :) The sweetness of the lilac may be covering the smell of the honeysuckle.

  7. So happy to see you Henny! That lilac has really grown and is beautiful. I would plant it somewhere where it would be easy for you to see and smell it when it is blooming. I have never seen a red honeysuckle - it is amazing. Henny your posts are always wonderful! It is so good to hear what is going on with your little farm with all the plants and animals and you always have the best pictures!

    1. Hey Bonnie. You always make me feel better about my sill posts. Thank you! I wonder if red honeysuckle is kinda rare. I need to Google and read about it. I really do need the right spot for the lilac. I had no idea how beautiful and sweet smelling a lilac could be. Thank you.

  10. We too are enjoying a little spring like weather, long may it last. Beautiful flowers. The lone tulip was a joy.

  11. Wow, you have really been hit by Spring, look at all those blooms!! Just beautiful. Our pear tree should bloom any day now, it is going to be just covered, after only producing 4 pears last year! I know what you mean about blogging, it's not that I don't have the time, it's just getting myself started.

  12. Oh, I LOVE lilacs. It'll be lilac time here soon.
You have the best ideas, Henny!

  13. I love wild red honeysuckle. The birds gifted us with some right in front under our tree a while back and it's so pretty when it blooms. We haven't even dared to start anything yet... it's 80 one day and 30 the next. Hopefully I will get to plant some trailing rosemary soon.

  14. Oh my, a new flower bed--what fun planning just exactly what to put there. The anticipation is everything!

We have just had two very warm days but a howling wind to go with them so not much outdoor work being done. Earlier last week I did rake out a couple of beds and cleared up two stick piles and so have 5 big garbage cans filled with yard waste to go out tomorrow. I'm keeping those yard waste collectors in business so far-----6 garbage cans went out week before last but some of that was from over the winter since that was the first yard waste pick up of the season.

    1. Hey Vic! Doesn't it feel good to get the sticks and yard waste cleaned up after a long winter. That's a job I love. Dan said he had to come in the house with mud stuck in the grooves of his boots because he could not find a stick in the yard to clean them with. I don't think I've done that good of a job. :) I so happy to see spring.

  15. How lovely to see all your plants in bloom !
Yesterday we had a gorgeous Spring day......today it's pouring down.
I love wild Honeysuckle, the smell floats across the breezes and makes the entire field smell divine.
    Hugs,

  16. Wonderful that the honeysuckle rooted. You will love the lilac. It was my late mom's favorite plant! Nice to hear from you; I know you are enjoying being outdoors.

  17. Sure looks like spring there. All the blooms are so pretty. I really like lilacs and have a few in my yard but they don't even have buds on them yet.

  18. For those of us under an ice storm warning, your lilac may be the only one blooming I see this spring.

  19. You are always apologizing for boring posts, but I always appreciate and enjoy them. I just enjoy the mundane, I guess. We, too, have an ice storm forecasted but maybe if I don't believe in it, it'll go away.
The snowball bush, and well, all the flowers you have in bloom look so wonderful to us still stuck in winter!

Just love seeing all your flowers popping up around the yard. I love lilacs too...and they smell so heavenly don't they? What a nice idea for a new flower bed. Can't wait to see it! I can't wait to see your Rose of Sharon trees/bushes as they get bigger and fill out. Your yard is looking so pretty already and the season is just getting started! Sniff a lilac for me, Henny, we are far from seeing any springtime weather here!

    1. Hey Diane! Surely someone in our family had lilac bushes back when I was growing up, but I don't remember them being so beautiful, and especially don't remember how good they smelled. When I open the little greenhouse door, the sweet scent is unbelievable...and this is still a small plant. Hope spring gets to Northern Wisconsin soon! Good to hear from you!

  22. Just sharing the joys and highlights of your life is enjoyable to read sweet friend! I am loving all your blooms and how exciting that the lilac has bloomed! And that you found a new spot for flowers! Glad you are enjoying spring there!!!

  23. It is wonderful to see that there is really spring somewhere in the world. We have a huge storm going on here with up to 30" of fresh snow coming. Love your pictures!! xo Diana

  24. The last photo looks like a painting! I bet the scent of lilacs is filling your greenhouse. How lovely.

  25. Will be waiting to see where the lilac ends up. They can be such beautiful plants with amazing scents. My mother had two beautiful large bushes that were close to her fence by the sidewalk. She was driving home one day and was blocks from her house when she saw a person carrying large bunches of lilacs and when she got home, her lilac bushes had been scalped. She was so mad. Lucky for you, your neighbors are kind and considerate...and far away!

  26. Your snowball bush looks fabulous! I do wonder about lilacs. We loved them in Iowa, and they thrive up north. I wonder if they'll survive here? I'll be glad to hear how yours does. Is it cold enough? I hope so. THey do smell so, so good! Thanks for the pretty pics!

  27. Hi Henny,
Your green post makes me smile, we just got over a foot of snow!! I do like your snowball bush, even if it is called snowball. LOL

  28. Seeing your Snowball bush brought back memories of my grandmother's Snowball Bush. It was huge and at the end of the front porch...kind of like the setting you have yours in. And who knew that the lilac bush would actually bloom before you were able to put it out. The red Honeysuckle is so pretty. I've ever only seen the yellow ones. Hope you are having a wonderful week!

  29. I love seeing all the blooms at your teeny tiny farm! We are still having winter weather here which is driving me mad....I'm dying to get out and play in the dirt!
