Waiting for the rain!

Poppy and I were so excited to get a small shower of rain yesterday, we both ran out on the porch to watch. Why, you would not believe how dry it is here.

Leaves are falling all around...not the pretty leaves of fall, but brown dry dead leaves.

So, here we are are today waiting waiting waiting for that four to six inches of rain coming from Tropical Storm Hermine. We've been warned time and time again that the rain, along with some gusty wind would reach us here around 11:00 this morning. It's now 2:30, and nary a drop of rain have we seen

It's my fault, by the way, that we haven't had any rain lately. I just know that it is.

Yesterday, during the heat of the day, instead of hunting and searching the cabinets for something to eat, while I wallowed around, adding to this inner tube around my waist, I marched myself right into the teeny tiny sewing room and kept myself busy.

There were sleeping kitty cats all around, but not this Henny! I made the cutest little chicken apron. You can see a bit of the chicken fabric on the desk above. Finished three bag holders, and almost a chicken bonnet, all to go in Henny's Bonnet Shop...Hopefully, coming soon!

Dumperoo insists on sleeping in my chair, the one at the sewing machine. He probably didn't even realize he had been moved to the rocking chair...

Guess I had better wind this up. Poppy is probably watching the clock and chomping at the bit, waiting on the computer. Oh, and I wanted to tell you about the maple syrup...guess it will keep til next time.

Love,
Henny

  1. Hope you got that rain you were hoping for. OK, I know this is corny...but at least it's rainy cats and dogs at your house. Looks like they've fallen all around.

  2. I thought about you when I heard all the storm warnings. Hopefully everything is alright!
We finally got some much needed rain here over the last two weeks. Nice to see the lawns green again.
Love all your cat photos. So cute!

  3. I hope you get some rain too, but not all that amount predicted, or at least spread out well. We have got some much needed rain this week, but we could still take some more. You are making me feel guilty with your talk of sewing and being productive with fabric. I haven't sewn anything in ages.

Lost power temp. and I think our traffic lights are all still out. Our power here at home is on. Yay! has hermine made it to you yet? I dont think we got nearly the rain they forecasted for us

  7. We got much more wind than I expected from the storm, our yard is a mess. We got between 2 and 3 inches of rain.

  8. Same here with the falling leaves and the dryness. Our "big storm" brought us .3 inches of rain, not enough to do much at all.

  9. You have been so motivated. That bonnet in the first picture is so cute. I can't really see the chicken fabric so I hope you'll post a picture of the apron.
I hope you got some much needed rain.... but not TOO much. We are finally having rain and I hate to say it but I didn't want it this long weekend because I had asked my boys to dig up an area of the front garden and now we may have to postpone the job. Darn.

  11. I hope you got some rain, but not flooding. Most places seem to have had too much rain or not enough, along with terrible heat and humidity. I don't mind most storms and heavy rain, but losing your electricity is something else. We're so dependent on it. Few people have corded phones any more and cordless ones require electricity, not to mention the need to charge cell phones. My folks had a well with an electric pump, so no electricity, no water. Please post pictures of the chicken apron and bonnet. I can't quite see the chicken fabric's pattern. I bet they're really cute.

    1. Hey Peg! We finally did get about one and a half inches of rain. The wind was not bad at all. We have a well too and when the power goes out the pump doesn't work. We now have a generator. After investing in the generator, we have not lost power except for a few hours. I will post a picture of the apron. Thank you!

  12. Every now and then we'd catch the dog sleeping on her back like a human. She'd often wake up and give us a "why are you staring" face

  13. It's so much fun to see your kitties sleeping all over the place. Tabbie picks one spot and it's hers for days until she chooses another spot. Looking forward to seeing your bonnet shop opening. Have a great weekend.

  15. Hi, Oh you have been busy and I can't wait for your shop to open. I adore your cats. They always seem to want our favorite chairs, don't they? lol
We had a little rain/wind from the storm, but not much. Mostly, we have enjoyed cooler temps!
    God bless your weekend.

  16. Anything made of chicken fabric will be wonderful. Can't wait to see what you made. (I don't seem to be able to see the fabric in the photo.). We got lots of rain yesterday and everything turned green again. Also wind and branches down and one of our neighbor's shutters blew right off the house! Today has been just lovely though.
