Henny Penny Lane

On the last leg of our late afternoon walk around the pond, then up past the garden, and down the road past the house...

and past the teeny tiny goat barn, where we turn around and come back home.

Look! I've found a container, a big container, to hold potting soil up at the new potting bench...

Oops! without the kitty cat, of course. It's an old granite ware tub, part of an old wringer washer. My daughter Andee and her friend Dawn found it in an old barn that was being torn down and thought of me.

For now I've set a bucket of soil inside the tub. It will take a lot of potting soil to fill this tub, plus I need to find something to use for a cover...don't want rain turning it into a black muddy mess.

See the vine in the dark green pot on the bench with the clay pots? You know, I was looking for a vine that would grow in the shade and lo and behold found the Creeping Charlie vine that had taken root in one of my potted plants...how's that for luck?

Looks like I am not the only one having fun up at the teeny tiny garden with the new potting bench.

Can you see me now?

It was mighty boring around here before sweet Smokey arrived. No matter what I'm working on in the yard, he stays right with me, playing hide and seek and jumping out to scare me. He follows me around like a dog.

That's about it for the news on Henny Penny Lane today...but wait, finally, a half way decent picture of Rosie goat...

with, of course, something to eat in her mouth. Rosie is obsessed with food. She eats continuously. No more putting a bale of hay in the hay rack. She would stand right there and eat until the entire bale was gone. Her little belly feels like a basketball.

Rosie is still a sweetie pie and when I sit down in the goat lot she is all over me...jumping into my lap and nibbling at my ears and neck.

Hope to be back soon...

Love,
Henny

  6. Your place looks so nice, comfortable and homey. I'm surprised that you let Rosie get near your neck and ears ---- with her appetite she just might start nibbling on you.

I used to have a cat that would follow me around like Smokey follows you. Very companionable. I miss him a lot when I'm out working in the yard. And another cat that would let me pick him up and carry him around in my arms with him looking out over my shoulder---- just like a little kid. Now we are down to two good for nothing sisters who are very standoffish but will occasionally sit on our laps or give us vigorous back rubs with their kneading.

  15. Your place is looking so good!
Rosie makes me think of my Lab, Bracken. He's obsessed with food too and we've had to stop giving him any treats at all between his 2 meals a day. Slowly he's getting the message. Before all he could think of is whether we were by any chance carrying a treat for him and he got so in-your-face. Not a nice trait. So... no more treats for him.

  22. Ha! First thing I thought of after admiring the wash tub was getting a cover for it. I bet you find somethings my appropriate just waiting for your eye to see. I have some pots going now with a couple of tomatoes and some herbs. Just have a few places to keep them where they get drip system water. Always feel anxious when we leVe and it gets hot. Your place looks like it is very fertile and well loved.
