Smokey update, and a messy morning

Deb, over at justcats-deb.blogspot.com , one of my favorite blogs...everything is totally cute at her place, asked about our sweet Smokey. Thank you Deb. Well, here's the big boy stretched out on the bed in the sewing room.

When Smokey was just a kitten, a mean, heartless person threw him out. After two nights alone in the woods, he found his way to our house...actually he followed our guineas home. I could hear his desperate little meows, but could not find him.

Smokey grew into a big kitty cat! A big special kitty cat! Poppy and I both love him. I was so in hopes that Smokey would turn out to be another "Audrey", Deb's unusual cat. I LOVE Audrey!  Smokey does favor Audrey some, but I might as well face the fact, there will never be another Audrey! :)

We made it through the coldest weekend only to wake up to sleet and snow this morning.

Poor guineas, who love hot weather, have had it! They flew down from the cedar tree and made a dash for the bare ground under the back porch.

We rarely get a big snow that covers everything and looks pretty. Nope, we get just enough to be messy and dangerous.

I want to clean out flower beds and rake up the big brown oak leaves that have blown and settled against the house. The windows and screens need washing and the porches need cleaning.

Will the place ever look pretty again!

Guess I'm not the only one waiting for spring!

Better get busy. Got lots to do and good grief! The living room floor!! Might as well get out a new vacuum bag...or better yet, bring the pitch fork inside. Lots of static in the air lately and pine needles have been clinging to Eli's fur. Yep, all that pine straw that I love so! Clinging to Eli and then dropping off on the living room rug. Wonder if the wheelbarrow will come through the front door?

Love,
Henny

  1. Hi Henny, well, you certainly made me laugh with this post. A pitch fork and a wheel barrow! I think that we all have had those thoughts at one time or another, LOL. Winter makes things seem brown and dull, I guess that is what makes us all dream of Spring. I was just thinking the other day about hiring my young nephew to come over and help me remove the screens and wash all my windows for Spring. I promised Steve that I wouldn't be climbing ladders when I'm home alone and I hate putting off these chores for the weekends when he is off work. Seems we have too many other things to do on the weekends. Anyway that chore is at least a month away, I have more time to think about it.
Have a wonderful week, my friend.
    Connie :)

  2. Awww...there he is. He looks so cute and cuddly. I showed Audrey his photo and she thinks he is pretty cool; especially since they look alike. There is only one Smokey, too. Poor Guineas. The winter sure is hard on out-door critters. I'm just going to keep looking forward knowing Spring is not too far off. It's Family Day here in Canada (the U.S., too?)and we are off for dinner with family we have not seen for awhile. Enjoy your day, Deb

  3. I can see why you love Smokey! I am so glad that you made a home for him. I hate it that people are so cruel and thoughtless about animals. I am sure your home looks warm and inviting even with a few pine needles on the floor. Nancy

  4. Your home looks so beautiful and cozy - your kitties are just about as spoiled as my pups!! It's tough keeping the house clean in the country - we tend to bring everything in with us. Bringing in firewood is the worst, and taking out ashes. Oh well, that's the price we pay for peace and serenity in the woods, right?

  5. Smokey's story certainly did have a happy ending. I hope life improves for your guineas.
And maybe the pine straw can serve the same purpose indoors as it does outside - strew it about and no one will ever know if you don't wash your floor!

  8. I think everyone is very sick of this winter! Smokey is a lovely cat. He couldn't have better pet parents.
    Have a good day.

  10. Smokey is a lucky guy to have found you.
Your snowfall sounds about like what we had here today. Just enough to be cold and messy.
I can totally relate on the static issue :).

  11. You know I can relate to that "winter storm" we got. We had a snow day but it wasn't even pretty enough to bother getting my camera out. I can say I'm ready for spring if we're not going to get a pretty snow...although last year it was March 3 when had 8 inches! Your sweet kitty is so precious all stretched out on that gorgeous chenille bedspread of yours...love it! Have a good week and stay warm!

  12. I'm sick of winter too although we have such mild temps . It's the endless rain that gets to a person. I just checked our local weather page and it has rained 12 of these 15 days of February.
We are surrounded by tall pine trees and get a lot of pine needles dragged in esp. in the children's shoes. The next rug I buy for in front of the door is going to have a pine needle pattern on it. Then I won't see the real ones.

  13. I will never understand people who can abandon a pet like that. Lucky he found you.

  14. Such a pretty boy, is Smoky, and he came to the right place to be loved and treated like a king. (and a blog celebrity!)
Our dogs bring the pine needles in here, too. Two minutes after I vacuum I'm picking up pine needles again!
I couldn't resist--I bought s few packets of garden seeds at Walmart today. I'm anxious for spring to get some gardening going.

  15. Oh Henny, you have such a beautiful kitty in Smokey! But your poor guineas look miserable huddled together to keep out of the weather. I'm hoping your snow and ice will be melting soon. Won't it be nice to get outside into some warm sunshine some day soon! Looking forward to that!!!

  16. Poor kitty, so lucky to find you. I can't understand such meanness! Hope it will get warm and sunny there soon. We have a messy storm coming here, so I will stay at home tomorrow, glad to be able to!

  17. Smokey is adorable! Your property looks so nice. It is snowing here today...not sure whether to say "again" or "still". :) I'm looking forward to seeing all of the pretty spring bulbs popping up when the snow is gone. We planted 120 spring flower bulbs last fall...can hardly wait! :)

  19. Smokey is beautiful.
I love your last photo! I photo for a card or calendar!

  20. Nelson the cat is probably the worst one here for bringing in stuff. Pine needles and maple helicopters hanging on his fur. Luna brings in dirt, lots of it. The guineas are smart to find somewhere snow free!

  21. We have had lovely bright days with hard frosts at night, I would far rather that than the unremitting rain. I had a large blue grey cat some years ago, also a stray, called Smokey. At the same time I had a long haired cat, dark grey and white with a black mask, it had to be Bandit. Mind you I did feel a touch self concious calling for Smokey and The Bandit.

  22. I feel like a split personality. Half the time I dream of Spring and half the time I don't want Winter to end. Looks like you have the best weather to cuddle up with your Smokey and enjoy the snow while it lasts.
