It's been three years, today!

Dear friends,

Waking up in the middle of the night and not being able to go back to sleep is driving me crazy!! Last night, it was 12:30. I lay there thinking of crap until 2:00 a.m., got out of bed, got my book, "At Home In Mitford", sat myself down in the rocking chair in the sewing room and read until 3:00 a.m.

Anyhow, while lying there awake, thinking...it came to me that it was in February of 2013 that Henny Penny Lane came into being. So, just minutes ago, checking to see the date of my first post...and can you believe this...it was February 4th!!

and here is my very first post...

HEREIN I BEGIN MY BLOG

I have wanted a blog for a long time but never believed that I would actually have one. For sure, I am not a writer. However, living on a hobby farm in a log cabin and caring for chickens, ducks, guineas, bantams, dogs, cats, and a couple of funny goats, I am bound to have a few good pictures and stories.

-------------------------------------------------------------

So, I remember Lynn saying, Mom, all you need to do now is start writing your posts. Like what, I asked. Anything you want to write about, said Lynn, you might start with "herein I begin my blog", and those were my exact first words.  I am real creative! :)

Looking back at that picture of the cabin makes me want those brown logs back. Good gosh! Did we really stain our cabin red and turn the front porch into a dog lot?

yes we did, along about the time Eli was a teenager.

Blogging has been really really fun. I appreciate you friends so much...the best friends I've ever had, are my blogging friends. Thank you!

Good gosh, I've got to get busy! On my list today is a trip to Henderson to the Tractor Supply store, then on to the grocery store, and I simply must squeeze in a few minutes to run in that old Salvation Army thrift store in Henderson.

Thank you all! Hope you will come back.

Love,
Henny

  1. Congrats on your three year blogversary! I am glad you decided to take the big step, it's been fun reading along:)
I've got caught up with all your posts. So glad you sorted out how to transfer Rosie to the outside pen. When I read about the first night, my first thought was that you needed to confine her in a small safe area, which you did! She is soooo cute:) But I have to ask, were you constantly cleaning up after her when she was in the house? I'm picturing little wet spots and little goat droppings all over the place....

    1. Thank you Karen. Hope all is well with you and your family. You know, only once did I pick up three little goat droppings in front of her carrier, and she wet once on the floor. It was luck I guess, that she wet mostly in the carrier...it was a job keeping that carrier clean and the smell down. :)

  2. You've set me to thinking. I should check and see when I started - I think it was about the same time as you. I do remember voting on whether or not to stain your house. And since I have a vested interest in the well-being of cute, cute Eli, I think fencing in the porch was a great idea.

  14. Happy Anniversary to Henny Penny Lane! I'm glad I found my way to your door to visit as you have become a friend and I look forward to the news of your little farm.
I have the same problem of waking up at night and not being able to turn off the worry part of my brain and go back to sleep. What works for me is to play an audio book that occupies my mind enough to keep from worrying and I drift off back to sleep. Or if I don't, I just enjoy the book I'm listening to. Maybe you could try it.

    1. Cynthia thank you. I truly think of you as a friend too. Feels like I've been with you on several of your many trips to different places. :) I've learned a lot! I used to listen to audio books, driving to and from work. That is a good idea!

  16. Ah, the 3AM wandering mind! Such a common complaint among certain women of words, we just can't seem to turn off the thinking. I am very glad that you started your blog, I must have found it right away, directed over to it by Lynn. I often mention one of your animal postings, or some other tidbit to my family or a girlfriend, with the preface, "You remember my friend with the little farm in North Carolina?" So you are well known, even outside of your blog!

    1. Pam, that is such a compliment. Thank you for speaking of me as your friend in North Carolina. You have been a good friend, not only to me but to Lynn also. I mentioned you to Poppy just this morning. I was putting eggs in the cartons and the different colors reminded me of that picture I posted of eggs, the one you liked. Thank you Pam!

  19. Let me add my congrats to those of others. So glad you decided to blog.

Isn't it crazy what you think of when you can't sleep? Talking to my sister today and she said she was trying to picture the floor plan of a house that I lived in 40 some years ago. No special reason.... at 2 A.M.

    1. I can relate to that! It makes me so mad to get something like that on my mind in the middle of the night. I will go over and over the same thoughts...trying to figure out something, that the next morning is not even worth thinking about. :) Thank you!

  28. Dear Henny,
Well you can be so proud of your blog! Because it brings so much joy to so many people. I love visiting your blog. On days that are challenging and perhaps a little blue, I will visit you and hear a cute funny story about Eli or one of your many beautiful pets and it just brightens my day! And I know you realize that bloggie friends are here to love and support you when you have a need for that. I have a bloggie friend that had a wonderful blog that just got dissolutioned with life and just one day removed her blog. And I'm thinking didn't she realize her bloggie friends were there for her thru thick and thin? Always ready to offer a prayer or words of incourgement? It made me so sad because even if she didn't want to blog anymore people could still visit her blog and enjoy it. I feel like she didn't value our friendship. I guess my point is, one can sure meet some wonderful people through blogging! I would love to start a blog myself someday.
Take care and have a wonderful day!
    Hugs from Darlene
