A photo shoot! Really!

It's a surprise now every time I open my blog and see the row of baby chicks across the top. During that last ice/snow/freezing rain storm, Lynn had a little free time, which is rare. She called and said mama, do you still want me to help you with some things on your blog? Lynn is sweet and kind like that. You can visit Lynn at sidetrackedlynn.blogspot.com. Thank you Lynn.

Eli came home looking sleepy and tired, but mighty spiffy, after his appointment with Linsey, at The Animal House.

I asked Eli if he felt up to a quick photo shoot before his nap. All that grooming sure wears a fellow out!

Linsey says Eli is a sweeeet  boy!

Wait Mom! Is it okay if Rosie is in this one?

We get this cool side swept look by turning the fan....just kidding.

We have been so wrapped up in Rosie lately, there has hardly been time to think about anything else. At least she took my mind off raking leaves for a while. Last Monday however, was warm and sunny and seeing that rake leaning there against that Oak tree...well, there was stopping me. I raked and raked and raked up leaves... It was wonderful!!  When my lower back began to hurt, I put the rake away and pushed the wheelbarrow up to the teeny tiny greenhouse. Several of the summer plants had died.

Emptied and washed out lots of pots.

There was no way to keep these Impatients and other tender plants living all winter...not with this little milk house heater. It would be cheaper to buy new plants.

Anyhow, that's about it for now. I would love to work outside today, but it's cloudy and cool right now with rain and thunderstorms coming in later...maybe even a tornado watch! Glad Poppy gets off work around 1:00 today.

Hope to be back here soon!

Love,
Henny

  3. I would love to have a green house only it would cost a lot to keep it heated here in the winters well the cold winters this winter has been warm . Eli looks great all fresh and clean . Miggs has a coat like that and it gets thick if we let it grow but she gets way to hot when in the house so we keep it short for her and helps keep her cleaner to as she is a roller in what ever she finds out side lol ! Glad all is well with little Rosie and hope she keeps getting stronger ! Thanks for sharing lovely photos , Have a good day !

  5. Aren't those warm mid winter days just wonderful? It feels like you are getting a jump (small, but a jump) on spring yard work. Saturday was our warmest day with a temp of 62. Wow 62 at the end of January. What a boon. I raked a little, cut back three garbage cans of perennial tops, dug out the grass for a new small flower bed, and generally tramped around the yard looking for signs of spring. Some daffodil are up about 2 inches here and there and glory be! a patch of snow drops actually blooming back in the shady back.

What a wonderful day! I bet you get those warmish winter days a lot more often than we do.

  7. Someday I will have a greenhouse....or sunroom...where I can overwinter a bunch of plants. I thought about doing the same with a little heater in my garden cottage but, like you, I figured it would be cheaper to buy new plants in the spring!

    1. Oh a sunroom is a dream of mine! The cost of heating is the biggest problem with a small greenhouse like mine...which is just for fun and not to make money.

  9. We are in the last part of winter but the spring bulbs are in flower and today I saw sparrows carrying nesting materials. Eli looks even more magnificent than usual. I do not envy you the leaf raking, I would not mind some l.eaf mould though

  12. I envy you your greenhouse, but up here in the North it would only be useable for a few months.
Eli is one handsome guy. The toughest thing about your blog is that I can't reach in and give that fuzzy guy a big hug.

  16. I have come to the conclusion that trying to over-winter plants that are "delicate" doesn't work. Like you say, better to just buy new plants when the greenhouses open. I am so waiting for Spring. These days we get so much rain it gets tiring. No kidding, the sound of the rain makes me want to take a nap.

    1. That's right! And the plants that survive look awful. This has been a wet winter. The rain yesterday was so hard and blowing, everything on both porches is soaked, and the pier is underwater again...up to the seats on the chairs. We need a week of dry sunny weather. I am waiting for spring too!!
