Another rainy day

If you're sleeping, you don't even notice the rain.

Nothing much to post about here except the rain...which has fallen steady since daylight, or maybe the wind blowing the wet leaves off the trees and packing them down...or I could show you this bunch of lazy sleeping animals again.

Actually there is a little video to show you...listen for the buzz of the yellow jacket trying to sting my hand. The yellow jackets are terrible in the fall.

and about raking all these leaves, well I do plan on getting them up again this year. It's a little overwhelming at times and takes me most of the winter and sometimes into March to finish.

Our weatherman just said that today is day nine with little or no sun. He also said that some of us here in North Carolina might, just might, see a little sun tomorrow. :o

I'm hoping to be back soon.

Love,
Henny

  1. I see your Kitty and Eli... we have had a kitten show up here.. IF Keeper will settle down and agree.. we will keep the Kitten.. I hope he will.. its very friendly and isn't at all afraid of Keeper though Keeper keeps barking at it LOL... Keeper isn't at all aggressive toward other animals.. so I dont think he would actually harm it... time will tell if we get to keep it.

    1. Oh I do hope the kitty can stay. When Smokey, the kitten, showed up here, I would say to Eli, "oh Eli, look at the baby kitten, that's Eli's baby kitten". But even now when Eli barks that loud fierce bark of his, Smokey jumps off the porch. It scares him to death. Good luck!

  2. What do you do with the leaves after you rake them? Do you try to compost some of them? Enjoyed your video...wonderful bird sounds.

    1. Thank you Meggie. I put all the small willow oak leaves in the garden. I haul a lot of the leaves to the backside of the chicken lot, where they turn into compost Then I have area near the woods where I dump the rest. The leaves make good compost and there are lots of earthworms under the leaves.

  3. Yellow jacket stings can be very painful as I found out this summer. Twice I got bit, both times I was sitting on the porch and reading when I felt something in my hair. I brushed it off but before it fell it stung me on the finger. It hurt like heck for a week and was very swollen. I think next year during wasp season I'll wear a cap when I'm outside.

    1. My daughter was just telling me that she got three stings on one hand last week and her hand is swollen really bad. Those yellow jackets cling and it's hard to brush them off. Yellow jackets are mean! Last summer I mowed over a hole in the ground where the yellow jackets were going in and got a sting on my foot, through my sock.

  4. Hi! That is wonderful how Eli and the cat gets along. Some of your shade would be nice but I would not like to rake all those leaves every year! Good exercise though! We don't have a cat so not sure how Coco would react to one. Nancy

    1. We do have a little too much shade. We've had several trees cut since we build the cabin, but wish we had cut several more years ago. Thanks Nancy.

  5. I'd skip the leaves and pile in with all those critters!

  6. We have had continuous rain for several days now and it should stay until the middle of next week, the psice we pay for having such lush green countryside. The animals look serene as usual.

    1. That's true. It is beautiful there where you live. Our chicken lot has turned into a mud hole. :)

  8. Rainy days and Mondays, right Henny Penny? Oh, the cat looks irresistibly cuddly. I would have to snatch him up and smooch him on the silky ear.

  10. Your kitties are so darling. I love seeing them. The dog is so fluffy and soft looking. Can see why the kitty likes to sleep on him. I don't know how you manage with all those fallen leaves. I don't think I could ever get them all up.

  14. I loved to see those beautiful animals taking a nap, they look so peaceful. I am feeling like having a nap myself, trying to avoid jet lag!

  15. We had two beautiful days now we are dreary today and it will most likely rain. A nap is high on my priority list later today. Your cats have a wonderful life:)
