A little visit with very little news

The rain started here last night around bedtime. Pouring rain, and wind. The pier is under water again and we have muddy water running down the side road and into the pond. Just once, I wish we could go into winter with a not so muddy pond. Since July the pond has been dark and clear, clear enough that we could feed the fish and watch them. That's okay though, no big thing.

I should be busy scrubbing the kitchen cabinets or painting the hallway or shampooing the carpet. After all, this is what I've been waiting for...another rainy day. A day that I can't work outside. So, here's the rainy day, and look, I am so beat and worn out from raking and dragging off sheet loads of leaves...and from sawing and cutting trees and limbs across the road that my energy is zapped!

We have company coming for Thanksgiving. Poppy's nephew Josh, and his two sweet teenage daughters. So you see, I need to be cleaning!

I seriously feel like curling up in a big soft chair somewhere. Getting out of bed at 4:15 these last few mornings has taken it's toll too. Oh, speaking of crawling out of bed...as I did again this morning...it was dark, it was raining, it was chilly. I fumbled around in the dark for my socks and my two hair clips, then slipped on my sweater, which I leave hanging on the back of the chair in the bedroom. As I shuffled toward the front door to let the dogs out, OUCH!  I felt a terrible stinging on my right arm, then another painful sting. I ripped off the sweater, and of all things, out flies a wasp! A big red crispy slow moving wasp! If that alarming clock didn't totally wake me, that doggone wasp surely did.

Actually this is Bickett's bed in the laundry room. After Bickett gets up, Dumperoo takes over the warm spot.

Okay, I am seriously getting busy now. Out shopping early this morning a big bottle of heavy duty "Mr. Clean" made it into my buggy. Sure wish I had that big fellow dressed in white here to help me scrub. I like "Mr. Clean". :)

Love,
Henny

Oh my...Miss Ann has asked that I let you all know that she now has a blog. It is called... bobbyanddash2boysblog.wordpress.com

  1. Hi Henny, sorry you got stung by a wasp. That really woke you up!
We have been having a few days of rain too.
I will check out Miss Ann's blog.
    Have a good day.

  2. I admire your energy. We're on the verge of rain for this afternoon and my first instinct has more to do with finding my latest book than a bottle of Mr. Clean. I am feeding 13 for Thanksgiving, so I guess I should be giving that some thought.

    1. Oh Marty! I would be all to pieces if I had 13 coming...but I would love it. We used to have 11 here when all the grandchildren were young.

  3. We've had our share of November storms, Tuesday was wild and wet and our power went out for an hour. Yesterday was dry and today is beautiful, mild and sunny! Did a bit of outside stuff this morning, and now to make some jam. Here, most of our leaves are raked up near the house. There are still leaves on trees out there, but we don't have to rake those ones, thank goodness! Good luck with your cleaning!

    1. Hey Karen! It seems like everybody has had lots of rain and wind storms this fall. All the spots I finally got raked are covered in leaves again. Guess I'll start over when things dry out. :)

  6. Aww, sweet Henny, I'm sorry that bad wasp gave you a sting, there's nothing worse especially in the darkness...
He must have been a grumpy wasp.
Your pond has been churned by the recent rains, lots of rain, from what I'm reading the entire country has been deluged with more than their fair share.
All the best with your cleaning list, I did bathrooms today, it's never-ending...lol

  7. Not a very pleasant start to your day!!!
    Your photo is so pretty.
Rain in the morning but then sun. It's been unusually warm here. Usually have snow by now.
    I raked some leaves today.

    1. Thank you. I was not expecting a wasp to be in my sweater sleeve! I need to rake more when it dries out again.

  8. Well sometimes when you feel you just want to curl up in a nice soft chair and rest that 's exactly what you need to do. I bet you could skip all that cleaning-----your nephew and his daughters are coming to see you and Poppy and all your animals and most likely won't even notice that the cabinets have been cleaned and the hall painted. You need to be nice to yourself and just take it easy once in awhile.

There is just nothing like being bossy now and then :o)

I'm going to check Miss Ann's blog right now.

    1. You are right again Vic! I just need to take your advice more! All that raking I did for two day... the ground is covered in leaves again. I'm thinking of it as good exercise, so I'll start over soon.

  9. What a way to wake up! That must have hurt. I hope your day got better after that. I didn't realize how much it rained here last night until I saw the full ditches this morning. I must have been sleeping or something!

  10. Wasp stings are awful, not a good way to wake up!
We are coming off of a big wind and rain storm from over the weekend, and are so pleased to have sunshine again. It's cold though, in the low to mid 40's during the day. I was out raking leaves again myself.

    1. Those stings are terrible! The hurting went away quicker than I expected. Wasp are cold and slow this time of the year. They can still sting though! :)

  11. What an awful way to start your day! I hope your arm doesn't swell up from two stings. Weren't you just getting over the tick bites? I hope you are feeling better now.

    1. Thank you! Yes, I had bunches of tick bites during the summer. I seem to attract insects that sting and bite! :)

  12. I'm sorry to hear about your wasp sting . . . not fun, not fun at all :(
We have been having wind storms. Our neighbors had three huge evergreen trees blow over and bring up the roots. They were forty year old trees. Our back fence blew off and some of our above ground garden beds turned up, too. 70 mile an hour winds . . . one of their trees took out a power line when it fell, so we were without power for a while . . . it was nice lighting candles and just sitting in the dark visiting :) No TV :)
    Happy Weekend!
    Connie :)

    1. Connie, I've never heard of so many wind storms as there have been lately. That's terrible about the evergreen trees. How sad. Glad no one was hurt. It is fun occasionally to enjoy the power being off. I love burning candles and oil lamps. Take care.

  13. Just love your blog Henny.....news or no news....it's a delight to read your blog! Love your big dog and kitties and loved the pic of the pond and picnic table in the rain.....quite lovely. How nice that you're having company for Thanksgiving....don't worry about so many things getting done before then.....you work so hard inside and outside....just do what you can do and enjoy the holiday. The memories will come from your interactions with the people you love and not whether this or that got cleaned. You're a good one Henny !

  16. Your sweet doggie Elli is just tooooo cute for words, I feel the same way, my right foot is hurting me bad and it is bitter cold, the rain has stopped but the bitter coldness makes every part of my body that I have broken ache like the dickens..Hope the sting is not too bad, I would put some rubbing alcohol on it and treat it tenderly...Your kitty cat looks like he or she is enjoying keeping away from the rain and coolness..Happy Tukey day it is approaching fast we are not doing anything, my Elli is not in the mood, it is just us two and our only is many miles away, we like to think of holidays each day of the year being sweet kind and loving to our family and our friends and strangers we meet! May yours be bright and happy and warm and without all that dadblasted rain and wind!
